Washington Post columnist Ruth Marcus suggested former President Bill Clinton was not entirely culpable for his affair with Monica Lewinsky Monday on MSNBC.
The comment came in the context of a discussion about Sen. Rand Pauls (R., Ky.) comments yesterday where he accused President Clinton of predatory behavior toward his former White House intern. Marcus said Republicans seem to address female sexuality only in the contexts of victimization or promiscuity.
To evidence her point, Marcus added she did not believe Monica Lewinsky was an entirely innocent victim in the scandal. I recall some thong flashing there, she said.
Full exchange:
ANDREA MITCHELL: So, the Republicans still have a ways to go in figuring out
RUTH MARCUS: What i think they need to do sorry to interrupt. They need to write a list of words

No, and I can’t imagine Bush having so little respect for his wife and daughters, either.
Also, it’s obvious if a conservative commentator blamed the woman and her thong, there’d be hell to pay — not to mention proof of “the Republican war on women.”
Also, if memory serves, Clinton at the start maneuvered her into jobs where she would be around more often, staying late, in his office alone, etc... etc... She was willing, but he knew what he wanted, clearly saw his opportunity, and planned accordingly.
Clinton and his supporters have been very effective in persuading large numbers of Americans that the Lewinsky scandal was only about sex. But I see a bigger issue here, because Clinton is on record as saying that he would have done anything to keep knowledge of the Lewinsky affair from becoming public.
To me, that statement raises a very serious question: What if, instead of sending her recorded Lewinsky conversations to Ken Starr, Linda Tripp had instead secretly offered them for sale, say, to the Chinese government? Or to the Russians? Or even to agents of Saddam?
What kind of blackmail leverage would those tapes have provided to a foreign government in dealing with America on sensitive trade, security or military issues? One of the few things Clinton ever said that I believe is that he would have done anything to keep the Lewinsky affair secret. Given his demonstrated track record of selling out American interests for personal or political gain, how far would he have gone in compromising Americas real interests in order to protect his own neck when threatened with blackmail?
Pretty far, I believe. Equally distressing is the prospect Clinton might, in fact, have actually succumbed to foreign black mail on other occasions in order to hide different sexual episodes that ultimately did not become public. There is no way to know, of course, but I prefer presidents for whom such a scenario is not a plausible possibility.
I recall some thong flashing there, she said.
Gees I can only conclude she was there - involved in a threesome?
Bingo.
BINGO!
You completely missed my point -- and yet you summarized it perfectly, in your last sentence.
Remember that hard-core feminist Gloria Steinem defended Bill Clinton during the Paula Jones / Kathleen Willey / Juanita Broderick sex/rape controversies.
And she is the one who proposed the “One free Grope” rule whereby a man like Clinton (who she greatly admired) should get one free pass if he tries to pressure or force a female into having sex or performing a sex act.
Steinem developed that doctrine only after she stood by Anita Hill when she and the democrats tried to destroy Clarence Thomas for allegedly discussing sex and sex films with Hill.
But it doesn't matter as he is dem so all logic and laws do not apply.
Yet they screamed bloody murder when Todd Akin said what he said about rape..gee..liberalism truly is a mental disease
Employer. Employee. Authority figure. Got it?
Monica Lewinsky was an intern. She was an employee. Got that. Employee.
Bill Clinton was the CEO. He was her boss. Employer. Authority figure. Got it?
Taking the moral issues aside, bosses shouldn't be getting their blanks blanked by employees, unless there was a pre-existing relationship. As he's the authority figure, it opens things up for harassment lawsuits if things end badly. It also affects national security in this case due to blackmail leverage.
So even if "hey she was askin for it!' which even male chauvinist pigs like me (oink oink) don't use anymore, it was at best - a real dumbassed thing for Clinton to do as long as she worked there.
Moral issues aside, there's a reason I don't go out and sleep with my clients or employees. As the sayings go. "Don't crap where you eat. Don't sleep where you work."
When you are POTUS, a 19 year old intern should be totally "Off Limits" even if she is begging for it. A First Lady that gives this perv a skate is no lady. Enabling sexual harassment is anathema to the liberal code and justifying Hilary just proves the insanity of the liberal mind.
So I guess that Marcus was absent when the Dems went to town during the Clarence Thomas hearings. Or just the other day when Obama gave his foolish "I've got your back" speech regarding female sexual assault victims.
Was this columnist named ‘Mike Hukabee’? No? Okay then, no matter.
Clinton has a history of such behavior.
We still have no idea what the meaning is "is" is.
Hey Ruth Marcus - what about Paula Jones? Was she ‘asking for it’? Or Juanita Broaddrick - the ‘chick’ who the FBI said had a credible rape charge against Clinton?
We know she was ‘asking for it’...
Can we use the word ‘chick’ now - and how about dirty jokes where ‘girls’ are the brunt of the joke?
Come on Ruth Marcus, tell us how far we can ALL go, not just Clinton.
She was a young gullible lady infatuated with the most powerful man on earth paying dirty attention to her.
He broke every Federal and civil law regarding people in power messing with the vulnerable help there is.
Plus he gave China rocket and missile guidance technology so China can now blow a nuke up anywhere in the world.
The question is, “Was Monica Lewinsky a victim.”
The answer is, “No.”
The most powerful man on earth and an unpaid intern.
If a republican had exploited this..... and the follow up would be that her role was only to service him, there was never an affair, or a relationship, or even the conventional sex act, it was her servicing him.
