In Harmony

January 21, 2014

Read: 1 Peter 4:7-11

As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. —1 Peter 4:10
Bible in a Year:
Exodus 1-3; Matthew 14:1-21

I love playing the 5-string banjo. But it has one drawback. The fifth string will harmonize with only a limited number of simple chords. When other musicians want to play more complicated music, the banjoist has to adapt. He can lend marvelous melodic tones to a jam session only by making the right adjustments.

Just as musicians adjust with their instruments, we as believers also need to make adjustments with our spiritual gifts if we want to harmonize with others to serve God. For instance, those who have the gift of teaching must coordinate with those who have the gift of organizing meetings and with those who make sure meeting rooms are set up and cleaned. All of us have spiritual gifts, and we must work together if God’s work is to get done.

The apostle Peter said, “As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God” (1 Peter 4:10). Stewardship requires cooperation. Think about your spiritual gifts (Rom. 12; 1 Cor. 12; Eph. 4; 1 Peter 4). Now reflect on how you can dovetail their use with the gifts of other believers. When our talents are used in a complementary way, the result is harmony and glory to God.

Without a note we sing in tune,
An anthem loud we bring,
When willingly we give our gifts
Of labor to our King. —Branon
Keeping in tune with Christ keeps harmony in the church.

Went through Advanced Infantry Training (AIT) as a Nike Herc radarman at Fort Bliss. Went back for SNAP (Short Notice Annual Practice).

We called ourselves Chairborne Rangers ‘cause we mostly pulled equipment checks and trained in the radar vans, unless we were on guard duty or KP.

If you’re an active duty or reservist airman at Hill Air Force and you’re planning to travel by plane, you can now step to the front of the line.

Pentagon and Transportation Security Administration officials recently announced that all U.S. Department of Defense service members will be eligible for expedited pre-flight screening at airports — which means they’ll be able to get into an express line where they don’t need to remove their shoes and belts or take laptops, iPads or liquids out of their baggage.

The new policy is effective immediately, but troops must use their DoD identification number when making flight reservations in order to get the expedited service.

Once a service member books an airline ticket, the airline sends the ID number and other pertinent information to TSA’s Secure Flight office, a program that maintains a criminal and terrorist watch list.

Troops will not be required to be in uniform for the service, but will be given a special boarding pass that allows them to get into the expedited, pre-flight line.

The expedited screening will be available to all members of the Armed Forces, including the Coast Guard and members of the National Guard and Reserves. Not eligible are personnel in the Individual Ready Reserve, military retirees and DoD civilians. Non-military spouses and children over the age of 12 are not eligible for the program either.

Mary Snavely-Dixon, director, of the Defense Manpower Data Center, said the DoD is working with the TSA to expand the program further.

TSA Deputy Administrator John W. Halinski, a 25-year Marine Corps veteran, said the TSA will continue to incorporate random and unpredictable security measures throughout airports and no individual will be guaranteed expedited screening.

TSA already has a program available for injured and wounded service members to make air travel as simple as possible. That program includes personalized service and expedited screening to move through security checkpoints without having to take off footwear, light outerwear, jackets or headgear.

Holloman seems to be one of those active bases. I noticed on the local news that a squadron of F-22s from Holloman was recently moved to Tyndall. That makes Tyndall the base with the most F-22s in the world.

I have noticed that when there is combat such as Iraq, the Eglin and Holloman squadrons seem to be the ones sent to do the heavy lifting.

ROAD TRIP

Good morning, Everyone. Good morning to our

AWESOME

military, our allies, and their families

Thank you, Lauren, for preparing the Canteen for today’s activities.

Ahhh...warm weather. But can't go...got to keep home fires burning.
It's going to be COLD tonight and tomorrow.

Well, just abut everything is closed today.
And as bad as it might be here,
I know it's mild compared to our northern neighbors.

So, I'm guessing since we are getting the frigid weather
tonight and for the next 3 days,
AK must be having a heat wave?

Gonna make my rounds.
Please stay right where you are.
But keep the Canteen clean
otherwise you know how Ma gets

So, come on in and sit for a while.
There's always plenty of coffee, tea
pancakes, conversation,
silliness, and plain old BS

REMEMBER THEM

DEFENDERS OF FREEDOM

FR CANTEEN MISSION STATEMENT

Showing support and boosting the morale
of our military and our allied military
and the family members of the above
Honoring those who have served before.

A Cliff like moment....

The area is a basin with no exit for the drainage. Some of the mountains contain soluble gypsum. That gypsum dissolves and is deposited on the basin floor.

Winds scour the surface and create dust, white dust. The dust is deposited in great dunes that for all the world resemble great piles of granulated sugar. In reality it is vry fine grained gypsum
