The New York City Police Department (NYPD) is sending out letters telling gun owners to turn over their rifles and shotguns — or else face the consequences.
“You have the following options,” the letter explains.
“1. Immediately surrender your Rifle and/or Shotgun to your local police precinct, and notify this office of the invoice number. The firearm may be sold or permanently removed from the City of New York thereafter...

I was talking to a former New Yorker. He said he knew this was coming so he sold his house and moved. He took his business and investments to Florida.

It's ugly now, but it won't get violent. NYers are cowardly government worshipping sheep. They will baa a little and the few that have guns (other than the criminals of course) will turn them in to the NYPD. Then later they'll get into the rail cars - trusting government to look after them.
They can try it here but Americans know both their rights and history. ( including what happened in Germany as you pointed out).

No, but as I understand it, it's not exactly as presented by the 2A organizations, either. New York City has had a 5-round magazine limit that predates New York State's "SAFE" act. Apparently what some of the few NYC licensed firearm owners need to do is prove that they have equipped the firearm with 5-round magazines, and not whatever the licensed firearm may have been listed as being sold with in the first place.
I didn't even know that any firearm magazines were legal in New York City (other than for criminals, LEOs, and "special people", like Donald Trump and Don Imus) -- this letter apparently involves some biathlon rifles and biathetes -- other New Yorkers would be more likely to keep any guns they might own at their country homes.
(BTW, when I looked into this, I found that the NYFD regulations limit a NYC resident to possession to 200 rounds of ammo -- so the New York resident who is an aspiring Olympic biathlete faces a virtual Mt. Everest of different challenges!)
For NYC, it’s time.
