President Obama has declined an invitation to speak at next month’s ceremony marking the 150th anniversary of the Gettysburg Address.
The event, slated for Nov. 19 at the Soldiers' National Cemetery in Gettysburg, instead will feature Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewell and renowned historian James McPherson as the keynote speakers, the Gettysburg National Military Park said in a press release.
“President Obama will not attend and the Secretary of Interior will represent the administration,” the park pointed out in the first paragraph of its press release.
It’s unclear why Mr. Obama, a noted admirer of President Lincoln, declined the invitation. Among other tributes to the 16th president, Mr. Obama used the Lincoln Bible at both of his inauguration ceremonies, in 2009 and 2013.
Skipping the event may not make many waves in Washington, but it’s already causing an uproar in Pennsylvania.
Writing for the Harrisburg, Pa., newspaper the Patriot News, journalist Donald Gilliland said the president’s decision “is nothing less than a profile in cowardice.”

He does not believe in the core meaning of the Gettysburg Address, and most Americans wearing their Thinking Caps do not believe in Obama’s integrity anyway, so for once, we’re even.
He won’t show up because Gettysburg is a very complicated matter, and he likely couldn’t even name the main generals in the battle.
I would think his favorite president other than himself would have to be clintoid.
The American people don’t understand socialism and don’t see an American president as a “socialist”. They are, we may agree, vastly uninformed.
I don’t know; there are many historians firmly on the left and admire Obama.
I bet he could not name all the presidents by name in order of service. And while such might be considered “trivia”, it would be nice if a president could name all of his predecessors. For instance, if a reporters asked him when Andrew Jackson was President, I suspect he wouldn’t have a clue.
I wouldn’t want him soiling any place of honor, anywhere.
Clown Prince nobama will refuse to be at any public event at which the crowd is not 100% controlled. He doesn’t do booing, ridiculing, the throwing of rotton vegetables or hissing well. Clown Prince nobama will not be questioned or disrespected.
After what that POS did to our veterans during the Obama-Reid shutdown, Obama shouldn’t be allowed to set foot in any Federal Park or Soldiers’ National Cemetery.

I’m sure Obama knows a lot more about the history of Marxism, than he does about U.S. history. Everything about our nation is illegitimate in his mind, and not worthy of his acknowledgement. The man flat out hates this country.
By "historians" I meant not mainstream historians but the local WBTS researchers and writers as well as the "living historians" who study the era and show up at the annual Remembrance Day ceremonies and festivities that Gettysburg hosts. There are only a few liberals among them.
