A succeeding president can countermand a preceding president’s EO.

How about for every rule that affects the lives of Americans, the elected members of Congress need to MAN UP and go on record with a vote? No more of this delegating it to anonymous bureaucrats.

The R's and D's would never go along to try and limit the office of the Presidency.

Just listening to the talking heads blabber about the stature of a President is vomit provoking. He is merely a public servant, but they treat the office like one of a King.

Yes, Rand Paul for president! AND he is actually eligible to the office, as others are not.

Back in the early 20th Century, Congress, in effect, gave up its legislative power to the various ‘departments’ to create rules and regulations as necessary to avoid having to come to Congress for every little thing under the sun that could be taken care of by the said department. Those ‘departments’ are under the control of the Executive Branch, so the ‘executive’ can essentially make rules and regulations at his whim with an Executive Order. Congress can override those rules and regs, but it takes a lot of political wrangling, as with any bill or proposed law.

Any new president can issue new EO to countermand previous EO’s , but I can’t think of any at the moment that have been.....

You can’t outlaw all EO’s. A President has to be able to give orders to his subordinates in the Executive Branch.

A President should live in fear of impeachment. The issuance of an unconstitutional EO should be considered grounds for impeachment.

I have some problems with Rand Paul’s amnesty plans.

Enforce the current immigration laws! No new amnesty bills.

EOs were never meant to be a way for presidents to write law. They are supposed to be orders to his cabinet and various agencies about how to conduct their business.

-—since Executive Orders started with George Washington, it is unlikely that Congress will do that-—

No, Congress can not out law executive orders. Well they could but the Supreme Court would rule the law unconstitutional.

And if a POTUS won’t follow the Constitution, what makes you think they’ll follow a law?

Executive orders are internal communications within the unitary executive branch headed by the president. Congress cannot forbid the president from giving directions to his subordinates. However Congress can overturn individual EO’s by legislation or go to court to overturn those that they think are contrary to the law or the Constitution.
