Obama to Sign UN Gun Treaty This Month – Will Lead to National Registry

Before Stalin could confiscate the guns he needed a national gun registry.

In April the United Nations passed sweeping legislation that will regulate the international arms trade and could lead to a national registry in the United States.

Barack Obama is reportedly going to sign the treaty this month while Congress is on vacation.

In April the United Nations passed sweeping legislation that will regulate the international arms trade and could lead to a national registry in the United States.

Barack Obama is reportedly going to sign the treaty this month while Congress is on vacation.

Ammoland reported:

You heard it straight from the horse’s mouth. Jay Carney said Obama will sign the UN Arms Trade Treaty “before the end of August…We believe it’s in the interest of the United States.”

This is very strategic timing considering Congress is on a 5 week vacation lasting thru the month of August!

These back door tactics are nothing new for the Obama Administration, which is why we are using tactics of our own to stop his anti-gun agenda. We have the home fax numbers of every Senator so while they are absent from the Capitol we can demand they must not ratify the UN Gun Treaty once Obama signs it.

Is there any reason that any honest person would regard a treaty which was signed by the President but not ratified by the Senate as being any more meaningful than a treaty which was signed by the Secretary of State, or for that matter by Joe the Plumber?

Legally, no, the United States never ratified the Vienna Convention. Yet in holding that view, you will have to undo almost 35 years of precedent.

Anyone who is going to take action on the basis of a treaty which has allegedly been agreed to by any nation should first check whether the alleged agreement is legitimate under the laws of that nation.

Most nations are signatories and have ratified the Vienna Convention. It is therefore the law of their nations. Legally not ours, but by custom it has been done that way.

If some people fail to do so and are subsequently harmed by the country's subsequent refusal to honor the "treaty", the harm they suffers is entirely their own fault; they may seek redress against any individuals who misrepresented the treaty as being a legitimate agreement, but are not due any remedy by the country that never agreed to it.

Look, I'm no fan of this situation any more than you are. It is, however, a reality of the lawless government we face. We have done it in order to get other nations to sign such agreements. It is my responsibility to point out what the situation is, regardless of the fact that most FReepers' opinions hold that a signature is meaningless. Legally, they are correct. In terms of what will happen, it is not.

Utter and complete bullsh*t.

This crap about the UN wimps confiscating guns has been going around since 1995.

It still hasn’t happened because the UN wimps don’t know how to confiscate arms. Don’t believe me? Read how the UN wimps confiscated arms in Rwanda. It DIDN”T happen.

…provided two thirds of the Senators present concur …

It should be noted that onerous gun legislation has passed the senate with only 3 senators present. Bob Dole could have stopped it by suggesting a quorum was not present, but he supported the bill, so he remained silent. Passed unanimous on a voice vote.

“Obastard has dozens of alphabet agencies all headed by slobbering sycophants who are eager to do his evil bidding.”

Oh, really?

How about you list for all of us how tough these alphabet agencies are.

Tell us all about the commendations that these tough Rambo federal bureaucrats were awarded on the battlefield.

Tell us about all their heroics and how they earned their bronze stars and purple hearts.

NSA already knows what you have and how much you put through it on a regular basis.

This will just make that registry ‘legal’.

We NEED TO HAMMER EVERY SINGLE DEMOCRAT (From Dog Catcher on Up to Governor) about IF THEY SUPPORT OBAMA IN HIS GUN-GRABBING policies and priority (rather than the American economy)..

Let’s let ‘em own it and kill them in 2014 over Obama and his bad, evil, destructive and devious policies!

They don’t have to be brave when they bring 40 agents all with guns to break down your door.

“They don’t have to be brave when they bring 40 agents all with guns to break down your door.”

They better be brave because they’ll be dead when these federal pigs are met by 600 deputy sheriffs armed with AR-15s.

There have been zero repercussions so far.

What, exactly, would keep him from doing so?

In the Senate, a quorum is a majority of the body, so 51 members may do the business of the Senate.
So, 35 members is 2/3 majority in the Senate with a minimum quorum.

I wish it were 35 members, that would be one more vote he would have to get. It would actually be 66 2/3% of 51 which is:

51 x .666666 = 33.999966 or 34 members

You’re right. I used 51*.67

If I had stayed in fractions, 51*2 / 3 it is exactly 34.

I don't think you get how this is going to work.

Wanna buy primers? You'll need to supply your driver's license. Imported ammo, parts, magazines, etc. will be cut off. If you'd read the link I supplied, that process has already started.

These people are nothing if not patient. They'll make sure you are as helpless, fatigued, and isolated as possible LONG before you hear the pitter-patter of little jackboots.

It would have been damned difficult for them to find out about any guns I've bought privately from friends or relatives, or the guns I inherited from my father, grandfather, etc.
