Cleveland police officials said Friday they're disciplining 75 of officers for their involvement in a police chase that ended in the shooting deaths of an unarmed man and woman, The Plain Dealer reports.
The pair were shot at 137 times while in their car, parked in a middle school parking lot. No officers were injured in what police called a "full blown-out" firefight.
Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine told reporters in February that "there is nothing normal about this case. ... This is a tragedy."
In November, about 60 police vehicles pursued the two suspects in a 25-minute chase spanning three cities. One suspect, 30-year-old Malissa Williams, was shot 24 times, and the other, 43-year-old Timothy Russell, was shot 23 times.
~snip~
But after the chase ended in a gunfight near Heritage Middle School, police checked the car and realized neither Williams nor Russell was armed.

Your example reminds me of that FReeper who did just that last April.
“Mouth off, start quoting the Constitution, or touching one of these storm troopers will result in a you lose situation...”
He went on some “Boy Scout Hike” armed to the teeth with bandoliers strapped accross his chest with an AR-15 as well. Cop stopped him and the guy goes nutz. Luckily for him, he didn’t get shot. Just arrested.
So these two did not assault anyone or steal anything and did not beat a cop’s head on the concrete. All they did was run from cops who were following them assuming that because they fled that they were doing something wrong — and they get 47 bulletholes. This is okay there but not in Sanford Florida.
NOTHING! Running from a cop is not a capitol offense.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Didn’t say it was. I’m not even saying these two idiots deserved to die. But what they did was stupid. Luckily for us....
They won’t do it again.
Run from the cops and be shot by 75 of them? Since when are the cops judge, jury and executioner?
Wait—I don’t understand. Are you saying that the cops were shooting at a MOVING car? My reading of the article indicates that the car was parked.
Which was it?
Give them the notion that if they drive just crazy enough, they will get away, and that's what they'll do.
As for the shooting, I'm not defending that, beyond stating that if you make stupid choices, it's your own fault if things don't turn out well.
That makes sense unarmed drivers fleeing the police SHOULD be shot multiple times. And what the heck, if they make up a story about a “firefight” who cares. They’re probably criminals anyway. (SARCASM)
It's not necessary to run from the cops for them to apply pack response.
It was moving before it was parked. Read the article.
Yes, but was it moving or parked when the cops started shooting? Read the article.
Bet this disciplning amounts to a lot more range time with the new high dollar bullets.
We had this problem in Houston, unarmed people shot, throw-down guns used by the cops. It took full-blown prosecutions to curb this. Before then, the populace was more afraid of the cops than the bad guys.
Rather than “disciplining” the cops, they should be indicted for manslaughter.
Here, I will help you out, since you are reading-impaired:
“The pair were shot at 137 times while in their car, parked in a middle school parking lot. No officers were injured in what police called a ‘full blown-out’ firefight.”
First, it was not a firefight, since the people in the car were unarmed. Second, the cops were not shooting at a moving car as you suggested, but at a car that was parked.
“Full blown-out firefight”? There was no “fight” about it. The targets were UNARMED! This was an execution.
Cops need to stick to their primary responsibility:
Raising money for the welfare state from innocent civilians attempting to legally go about their day.
Our men and women fighting in Afghanistan have more rigid rules of engagement than this. They can see potential enemies carrying weapons but cannot shoot until they are fired upon.
It has been almost a universal principle that cops aren’t supposed to shoot first. That has been relaxed to shooting someone who won’t drop their weapon. Even if that weapon is a spoon or a rock. Now it is being relaxed to shooting someone if you feel like it.
what kind of protocol allows for a 60 car pursuit? - a dozen maybe- strategically placed.......for Christ sake this must have looked like the Blues Brothers
I had a sheriff friend once - who said they live for the chase and will drop everything to be in one - because they can basically run amok
Your post 45 where you said “WaitI dont understand”....
Pretty much sums up ALL your replies.
You’re either too stupid to understand basic English, or you’re spoiling for a fight.
Either way - its YOUR problem. I won’t engage with you.
Discipline SHOULD consist of prosecution, of every cop who discharged his weapon , for MURDER with aggravating circumstances -performed under color of law.
Bunch of trigger-happy pschos in uniform executed two people for fleeing.
The cops who didn’t fire but joined the chase without good cause and also those who filed false reports should be dismissed from the police department. Any officer who who files deliberately false reports has proven himself untrustworthy.
The way to restore America is to hold everyone to higher standards not make excuses for sloth and evil.
Totally agree. Between crazy cops with guns, drones in the sky, TSA, NSA etc America is turning into a Fascist Dreamworld.
