Cleveland police officials said Friday they're disciplining 75 of officers for their involvement in a police chase that ended in the shooting deaths of an unarmed man and woman, The Plain Dealer reports.
The pair were shot at 137 times while in their car, parked in a middle school parking lot. No officers were injured in what police called a "full blown-out" firefight.
Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine told reporters in February that "there is nothing normal about this case. ... This is a tragedy."
In November, about 60 police vehicles pursued the two suspects in a 25-minute chase spanning three cities. One suspect, 30-year-old Malissa Williams, was shot 24 times, and the other, 43-year-old Timothy Russell, was shot 23 times.

But after the chase ended in a gunfight near Heritage Middle School, police checked the car and realized neither Williams nor Russell was armed.

Russell might have fled from police initially, fueling the massive chase, because he was high and driving on a suspended license. Toxicology results show that Russell was under the influence of cocaine and alcohol at the time of his death. Williams was also high on cocaine and had marijuana in her system.
Murder by cop. They did nothing to justify the shooting.
COPS is never shooting in Cleveland when anything THIS interesting happens.
Not much of a “gunfight” when one side has no guns.
This is why Andy only let Barney have 1 bullet. And made him
Keep it in his pocket....
Usually a "firefight" involves shooting on both sides. Maybe the cops had them surrounded and were shooting at each other.
As it turns out, an inaccurate description. A firefight would be a shootout. It presupposes an exchange of fire. Since the admission is now that the targets were unarmed, what description more accurately describes what transpired.
Armed assault?
Reminds me of the boat search scene in Apocolypse Now.
137 shots and 47 hits, the cops there are better shots then the ones in LA.
Execution: Firing Squad.
Were they killed?
Yes.
Craven coward revenue death squad.
Murder by cop. They did nothing to justify the shooting.
Nothing? Most (sane) people would agree that running from the cops just doesn't end well.
I bet that there were about 60 throwdown guns around them when they discovered that they were unarmed. They should be doing prison time for murder. The hostler sniffers, if that haven’t already, should be here telling how they deserved to be shot and how brave the officers were.
“Maybe the cops had them surrounded”.
As kids we called it a “Circle Jerk”.
No explanation needed for the term. I seem to lose more & more respect for police every day. Maybe that is because we only hear the negatives.
I'd be more worried about the police who were being disciplined for falsifying reports to try and cover this up.
Going on what this article provides - and it's always a stretch to assume that "journalists" know what they're talking about - I'd say that this whole situation sounds like "Incompetence + Incompetence = a bad result".
Can’t really work up any tears for scum who runs from or tries to fight the police.
Cops gone wild.
No car chase needs 60 police vehicles doing the chasing.
“The police fired a total of 167 bullets at Bonnie and Clyde, 50 bullets hit the couple. Bonnie and Clyde were shot dead by policemen in an ambush near Sailes, Louisiana on 23rd May 1934. “
They were 30 shots short of breaking the record.
Pack syndrome. Nothing less. A lot of cops would drive a hundred miles to empty their gun in a battle like this.
Looks like some of them did.
When we speak of people with guns being out of control, let’s first look at our police. One of them opens fire and they all have to unload, when half of them cannot even see a target.
There are many good officer out there., but they all get their adrenalin up driving at break neck speed in a reckless chase, when they arrive they are so high on adrenalin, that bad things happen.
Watch the chase scenes on TV where the officers are chasing down cars. The announcer will say how reckless the car they are chasing is and how they sped through red lights, then we see the police car doing the exact same thing.
