More than 80 lawmakers have called on the Obama administration to allow gay men to donate blood.
The lawmakers say the administration should change what they say is an "outdated" policy.
Eighty-two lawmakers in the House and Senate signed on to the letter, including Sens. Tammy Baldwin (D-Wis.), Mike Enzi (R-Wyo.) and Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.). Enzi was the only Republican to sign the letter.
They said Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Kathleen Sebelius should re-evaluate blood donation criteria that ban gay men from donating blood for life.

Well, there ya go! As soon as I posted that, someone reminded me that she’s “all-in” for the gay comyoonutty as well!!! Phhhht!!!
Base the decision on science and public protection. Keep these idiots out of it. There was a % of infected blood for homes at one time, what is it now?
THIS is exactly what’s wrong with “government-run” healthcare — politicians poking their noses into things they have no business being involved in.
Gaak! Inmates are running the asylum...
Agreed. The next American Revolution should be more like the French Revolution...
Yeah, you’d expect usual suspects Portman and MurCOWski to be all aboard.
DoughtyOne: “So now people will have to be subject to AIDS just so some folks won’t feel like they are mistreated? Really?”
In short, yes.
Don’t we imprison people who attempt to stick people with HIV infected needles?
Ban gay men from donating blood for life.
I like the sound of logic.
As long as this blood is only used for these lawmakers and their families, I’m all for it.
My 40 year old brother died the same way.
They have lost their f-ing minds. From infection to detection their is a window of 2 to 8 weeks. During this period a donor can test negative but is infective. Click on link for info. This info is from the San Francisco Aids Society.

This proposal will make our blood supply more dangerous.
Like you I`m a long term donor a bit over 15 gallons
including 70 something platelet donations and will also stop
if this proposal goes through.
Surely this insane idea goes nowhere.
I would love to see the list pf radicals who signed this.
Agreed...
I still cant donate blood because I lived in Europe in the 80s and did Somalia in the 90s.
I’d be Gallon Club except I was stationed in Germany in the 1980’s and later they decided that meant I was exposed to mad cow disease, so I can’t donate anymore. I keep going back to the Bloodmobile but that stupid rule hasn’t changed.
Meanwhile the AIDS faggies have their friends in Congress pushing for their right to contaminate the rest of us.
On a side note I read an article where a man walked out of Hardees eating a sausage biscuit and was accosted by a Muslim who berated him for eating pork. The man calmly reminded the muzzie that if he ever needed a blood transfusion that the vast majority of donors to the supply are pig-eating “infidels”.
The muzzie turned sickly green & ran off shrieking “Allah has put a seal on your heart!!”
Good point. To the leftists, everything is static. They don’t see the dynamic results of implementing their insane policies.
If a gay wants to give blood, they simply will lie.
This wont change anything, it's just about making them feel good.
The point is that they will have to lie to donate, just like with the other prohibited groups. Even some homosexuals still have scruples. And the fewer who donate because of these scruples, the better.
You can donate to your own private blood bank. I would advise this.
