Tornado warnings up in Oklahoma. Watches in TX, OK, KS, MO, far NW Arkansas.
It’s going to move just north of the denser Tulsa suburbs - more open area near Vera.
That's the rub I've wrestled with in my own head (glad I don't have to make these calls): do you keep all the kids in one place in the hopes that the school is missed, or send them all home - knowing that being so spread out that there could be several that never return.
Meanwhile, there's a woman on KCTV being extricated from her home with a board or something through her leg.
Most schools and business buildings are reinforced and probably safer than any place other than underground shelters.
Of course, any direct hit by an F4 is going to sustain damage.
“Scope of damage more massive than May 3, 1999”
Prayers
I don’t want to read the whole thread first...got to know if one hit Moore. My kids live there! Please respond if you are able to. *biting nails*
Looks like another draco wall.
KOTV 6 Tulsa
Possible large tornado rain-wrapped near Skiatook, just north of Tulsa.
Luckily I have never been through a tornado but I just assumed that maybe they had a underground bunker to hide when this was coming
I-35 shut down, cars smashed.
Yes it went thru south Moore.
Massive devastation showing on live tv
obviously you have internet, can get the streaming vid link earlier in the thread
Yes I can see the typical Hook formation north of Tulsa!
Moore took a very bad hit ... sorry.
Moore is still being hit by a big one.
Sorry.
Your right..I guess compared to being at home or in a car a structure like a school would be the safest place. They showed the movie theater in Moore and it doesn’t look damaged at all, yet the school was destroyed..with tornadoes its the luck of the draw, one place doesn’t have a scratch while the other place can be completely destroyed
“A lot cheaper to go underground if possible.”
Am 60 miles north of Houston. We have a high water table. Dig a hole here and you have a water well.
Honest to God, people, this one does scare me - have that here and I’m dead and so is the Yorkie. There is nothing underground here.
humblegunner: do you have an underground shelter? I know you are Mr. Prepared, let me know if you have underground - I’m going to your house if there are severe tornados and you have underground.
Sweet friend, there was a hit in Moore. Sending prayers for you now.
Helicopter reporter said very similar path and destruction compared to 1999 tornado.
