PHILADELPHIA – A Philadelphia abortion doctor convicted of killing three babies who were born alive has agreed to give up his right to an appeal and will be spared a potential death sentence.

Dr. Kermit Gosnell was convicted Monday of first-degree murder in the deaths of the babies who were delivered alive and killed with scissors. The 72-year-old Gosnell gave up his appeal rights Tuesday, and prosecutors agreed to two life sentences without parole.

I wish the state chose life with greater consistency than that.

It was a grotesque trial where a murderer was tried for choosing an unapproved method of murder. Let us forget it and wait for the day when all murderers get life.

“May he hear the screams of the babies...”

In a solitary cell, piped in 24-7, no other human contact, meals shoved through a small door without a word...

He’d be begging to die.

While I'm not against the death penalty, I'm actually glad Gosnell didn't get it. This gives him a chance to repent and to convert to a pro-life position.

As to the terms of his detainment, I say "feed him through an umbilical cord!"

I dont mind this plea deal. He’s 72, and it usually takes 20 years to execute someone anywhere but Texas. So he probably wouldn’t have lived to the execution date anyway, take the deal and save the taxpayer money. If he was 42 then my opinion would be different.

So long as babies lives are saved...and he’s locked up. You are probably right.

I thank the Lord that Gosnell is sentenced to life in prison. Hopefully, during his remaining life in prison, he’ll have a ‘Damascus Road’ moment. I hope for his sake, that he listens to the prompting of the Holy Spirit, submits to God’s will, accepts Christ, repents and ask His forgiveness. Can you imagine the testimony?

If he chooses not to follow the Lord, his ‘post prison’ future is less than enviable. We know from Revelation 6:9-11 that there are thousands/millions of martyred saints asking the Lord when their deaths will be avenged. Could it be the same for the thousands of souls killed by Gosnell and his kind? If he has not accepted Christ, since he has murdered (biblically, if not legally) thousands and will have to answer to his Creator, without Jesus to substitute His righteousness for Gosnell’s filth, before the Lord.

I don’t think that Gosnell will serve hard time in prison, after all, likely quite a few of the inmates may have used the services that the ‘Doctor’ provided, so would not think anything of abortion. On the other hand, if he had been a ‘skinner’ or a rapist, his time would be very hard. It is good that he will have to spend the remainder of his life in prison.

hope he gets to bunk with Sandusky.

Problem with that is that he's way older than Sandusky's tastes...

I don't think Sandusky has much of a choice these days.

You have a point... Wonder what the odds are that he is staying celibate... ;-)

If most prisoners support abortion, he may be the hero of the facility.

He will never convert to “pro life”; abortion has been his ticket to fame and success. He could never admit that he is a murderer, and the American people don’t require that he do so.

‘Best Case Scenario’ for PA Taxpayers? That he is ‘Dahmerized’ in prison.

God Bless the inmate that beat Wisconsin’s Jeffry Dahmer to death (while guards watched, no doubt, LOL!) He saved us about a million dollars had we had to house that feral ANIMAL for the rest of his natural life!

He didn’t see anything wrong with what he was doing.

He probably didn't. That's why I'm a little uncomfortable with this.

You and I both know he's a monster. But, American justice used to require "intent". And rightfully so.

No longer. Now, you accidentally run over a kid ... prison. And God forbid you had a drink. It's mob rule, now.

This cretin probably thought he was doing a great service for the downtrodden. Our country has sunk so low, that ... well ... you know the story about Obama and the law about murdering born babies.

It's great that this horror has shined a light upon the truth about abortuaries. But, in 21st Century USSA, this moral midget arguably wasn't even breaking laws by murdering newborns.

If it was up to me, he'd get some prison time to contemplate what he was responsible for. Then, wait for his Maker to impose justice.

These statistics include only surgical and medical abortions. Because many contraceptive measures are abortifacients (drugs that induce or cause abortions), it is important not to overlook the number of children killed by chemical abortions. Since 1965, an average of 11 million women have used abortifacient methods of birth control in the United States at any given time. Using formulas based on the way the birth control pill works, pharmacy experts project that about 14 million chemical abortions occur in the United States each year, providing a projected total of well in excess of 610 million chemical abortions between 1965 and 2009.

I do not think it helps the pro-life cause at all to lump use of contraceptives with abortion. There is no pregnancy as long as implantation does not happen.

From a scientific point of view, there is nothing really special about the product of conception until such time as it develops a nervous system. At that point, it is capable of self-awareness. Before the nervous system begins developing, the fertilized egg is no more aware than the countless human cells I grow for research. The nervous system starts developing about 3 weeks after conception, near the time when the heart starts to beat.

I also dislike the usage of language like "life begins..." Life does not begin; it is a biological property that is continuously present and passed from parents to children. You can't put dead sperm and dead egg together and magically create life.

IMO, it is wishful thinking that a murderer will somehow repent and convert. Few of them ever do. He is a psychopathic sadist who derived pleasure out of killing babies. I'd be extremely surprised if he ever comes to understand the suffering he inflicted, at least while in this life.

Actually, I think he knows perfectly well that what he was doing is wrong, but he doesn't care. Killing babies before birth is legal, and he is a psychopath motivated by profit. I wouldn't attribute *any* noble motives to his actions. No one who kills babies so callously has the capacity to care about any human being but himself.
