Just got this in email tonight, and thought I'd pass it on to my fellow Texans. There's an important vote coming up on Wednesday, 8 May in the Texas Senate regarding smart meters. This is a call to contact your state Senator regarding this important vote.
The email:
To my Friends in Texas Im going to just ask you to trust me! Most of you on this list know that Im not into radical stuff and many know that although I have passed along a little info opposing Smart Meters in the past, it has definitely not been a passionate cause for me. Until now.
In the past week, at two different meetings, Ive heard some very reasoned and intelligent presentations by educated and informed people whom I deeply respect, that have convinced me that I definitely do not want a smart meter on my house, and feel no one should!
Im not into the medical reasons (though Ive seen enough presentations on this by intelligent people to agree that these can pose serious problems to some). Its the presentations regarding security risks, hacking problems, privacy matters, huge potential for outside control (already happening in some places), and on and on, that are making me passionate.
The attachments will give you plenty of background. Read it all if you have time. Or trust me! The important thing is to call and email your state Senator (and any others you have time for) today or tomorrow.
URGE THEM TO VOTE YES ON SB241 ON WEDNESDAY!
Below are some talking points if needed when contacting the Senators. (These are not mine, but theyre very helpful.)

TALKING POINTS WHEN YOU CALL:
PLEASE Vote in favor of SB241 !
This bill gives the citizens the right to choose whether or not we have a monitoring and control computer on the side of our house.
Or, if it has already been installed without providing full disclosure or securing permission, this bill also enables us to have the smart meter removed, if we do not want it.
Regarding the speculated cost of the opt-out provision, this bill recognizes that charging consumers to pay extra not to participate in a non-mandatory program whose benefits do not outweigh the risks nor the increased costs is irrational and irresponsible. Paying extra to protect ne's health or privacy or security of personal information is unjustified.
The bill allows us to keep our lifestyle choices (how we use our electricity) private and secure from others who have no business knowing or controlling what we do in our own home.
This bill protects Texas' grid independence; maintaining Texas' sovereignty over our natural resources is paramount and nonpartisan. By establishing a joint legislative study committee, this bill also recognizes the lack of consideration given to the potential for very serious negative health effects associated with electromagnetic frequencies.
We very much hope we can we count your support for the bill as it is written - with no amendments, repeat, no amendments!
If you have any questions or comments, we would be very happy to discuss our opinions with you. Thank you for all the work you do. And thank you even more for voting for SB241.

Right now in the TX legislature were trying to get SB241 voted on WITH NO AMENDMENTS - which has to do with Smart Meters, and the ability of Texans to opt out of this program, with no penalty. I wrote my Texas friends yesterday with talking points, etc. and urged them to CALL YOUR STATE SENATOR and urge him/her to vote FOR Senate Bill 241!
Today Im writing my friends everywhere just to suggest you go on this website: http://takebackyourpower.net/ and watch the trailer.
I saw the full documentary last Friday night excellent. It showed me that this is not an issue that should be relegated to any political party. Its not a nutcase issue. Intelligent professionals in scientific, ecological, biological, engineering, security, health fields, etc are on record as opposing smart meters.
You should care about this if you value your security (from regular home thieves who can easily find out when folks are out of town via the smart meter), value your security from other forms of interference stemming from the knowledge of exactly what electrical appliances you are using at any time (thus tracking your daily life patterns), value your independence, freedom from control of your life by others, value your health, and on and on (as always, the bottom line is money and control).
The trailer to the movie Take Back Your Power is just a few minutes long but it gives a good overview of the issues involved with smart meters. Im sharing this with those of you who arent in Texas just so youre aware. The film shows people around the globe beginning to wake up and protest smart meters.
Let me know what you find out stevie.
As usual...Larry Taylors office promices a lot...But delivers zero...
It might be safe to “assume” Taylor will vote “yea”, but the proof will be in the pudding...
Getting tired of the lack of communication from this guy...I remember when he was one of us...Just a lowly Precinct Chair back in the day...
Kinda makes you think...
Should have been pretty easy to poll ALL the senators in this state on this bill, but NOOOOOOOOOOOOO...
I do know they are up to their eyeballs in stuff to do on the floor these days, but at least their staffs should have the information we are looking for...
I guess I need to work on my communications skills as well...;-)
Privacy issues seem to be the major issue with AARP. Or that’s how I read their info.
An article from the Houston Chronicle back on Feb. 28, 2013

The smart meter bill, SB241, needs help. We don't yet have our 21 votes and time is running out. These undecided Senators need to hear from us now.
You can call folks other than YOUR Senator. Most dont ask where youre from.
One who called all of these Senators was told by about half of them that they hadnt received any calls on this matter!

...and you can BET that they are hearing from the Utilities...
The Utilities are only interested in getting paid for the electricity they deliver. As far as I know, they're having no trouble with that.
No, someone else wants these invasive, information gathering devices installed on every American house.
Not true. From a utility standpoint, these meters are PERFECT as it negates the need for energy storage when systems get too top-heavy with wind and solar (i.e., unpredictable generation)...and they are being forced into that.
Without thees meters, the Utilities would have to build a boatload of new plants, to deal with cloudy/windless days, or roll blackouts - neither of which is very popular.
...but shut off demand when supply dries up...much easier for them, politically.
...but don’t get me wrong - others (law enforcement, bad guys, employers who want to know if their employee is really home sick, etc.) are very interested in that information, but they are not the ones that NEED the smart meters.
Without thees meters, the Utilities would have to build a boatload of new plants, to deal with cloudy/windless days, or roll blackouts - neither of which is very popular.
Bob, you may not have been keeping up with news on the energy front lately. Electric power generation from wind and solar is on the wane, and existing boondoggle facilities are being taken off-line all over the country.
That news isn't anything but a blip in the national leftmedia because it's an enormous failure of their green agenda, but the data's all over the place in the alternative media.
You're right. It's Big Brother who wants theses 'smart meters', because they not only gather intel on how you use power (which can be used as an additional metric on your personal behavior), but they also have the capacity to be used as power control devices.
BTTT .....good list , thanks !
It’s more than a blip - we had rolling blackouts in Texas a few years ago because the wind stopped blowing in the Western part of the state. With Smart Meters, no blackouts...just AC units (and then refrigerators and God knows what else) going off. And no more having to buy super-high priced power in the spot market during those real-time shortages.
I’m as tin-foil hat as they come - I still pay cash at toll booths (where they accept it, otherwise skip toll roads). My cell phone STILL doesn’t have GPS. I will defeat Smart Meters when necessary. But I still also know that typically databases are created not by evil people, but by well-intentioned people. It’s only later that Evil People see what capabilities they provide...and then they get hijacked.
Thanks for the ping!
You bet!
