2014 retirements: Dems heading for the hills By: Alexander Burns April 23, 2013 04:49 PM EDT
Doesnt anyone want to run for Senate in 2014?
Midway through candidate recruitment season, the bad news for Democrats is this: They are watching a generation of talent leave the Senate and head for retirement.
The less-bad news: So far, few marquee-name Republicans are interested in these seats either.
When Montana Sen. Max Baucus called it quits on Tuesday, he became the latest in a long series of senior legislators to announce that theyve had quite enough of life on the Hill. National Democrats are now banking on former Gov. Brian Schweitzer to enter the race in order to keep the seat in Democratic hands.
They face a similar situation in Michigan, where Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman Carl Levins retirement has the party looking to Rep. Gary Peters as its savior, and in South Dakota, where they hope former Rep. Stephanie Herseth Sandlin or U.S. Attorney Brendan Johnson can mount a strong campaign in the absence of retiring Sen. Tim Johnson, who chairs the Banking Housing and Urban Affairs Committee.
And those arent the only ultra-senior senators leaving the chamber after 2014: Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee Chairman Jay Rockefeller of West Virginia and Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee Chairman Tom Harkin of Iowa have also decided to call it a career.
New Jersey Sen. Frank Lautenberg, who at 89 is the last World War II veteran serving in the Senate, has also announced he will not run again.
For Democrats, the result is a wide swath of open-seat races where well-funded incumbents once stood. More often than not, they are counting on a single high-value recruit or perhaps two to stave off big Republican gains.

Are you serious? TALENT?
They caused Obamacare. Their time is come in 2014.
I think that’s what the commie libs call corruption these days. “Talent”.
C’mon, now. They had to toss that one in there for shits and giggles.
Sure,talent.Talent for lies and misinformation.
Senate seats up for re-election in 2014:
Exactly what I was thinking. Putting schmucks like Baucus and Levin in the ‘talented’ camp is just factually inaccurate.
What are our chances of getting Baucus’ seat? It is a red state, but they sent HIVTester back to the senate, so its dicey
May they meet their maker...and transition to the obvious hot climate.
Soon.
Liberals are evil.
They are slime.
They are Obamastuff..e.g. Excrement.
They are rot.
They are hate.
I’m guessing the old timers have had enough of the gangsta-in-chief and his homeys. Not that any of them were pure as the first winter snow. But even these crooks can’t tolerate the dictator and the thugs surrounding him.
Everyone remember where they live...
so you can send them a retirement card.
When the collapse arrives, they're going to need it.
Even here in the state level California has it’s government works looking for a 25% raise and an increase in benefits.
fyi, mike johanns is retiring but Nebraska is considered to be a safe gop seat.
...Mike Johanns is retiring...”

Got it, thanks!
(it’s getting harder and harder to keep up!)
They’re not heading for the hills; they’re heading for the lobbying gravy train.
The TEA Party needs to find the most righteous, courageous, brilliant people they can identify to run for the GOP nominations to these offices. And they must know how to deal with the hostile press that will try to trap them into saying stupid things that an be twisted to serve their agenda.
The retiring dems see the nefarious work they’ve done and have decided they’ve wreaked sufficient damage.
