WASHINGTON, DC - President Barack Obama signed a spending bill, HR 933, into law, the "Monsanto Protection Act," that strips federal courts of the authority to immediately halt the planting and sale of genetically modified (GMO) seed crop regardless of any consumer health concerns.
"The provision would strip federal courts of the authority to halt the sale and planting of an illegal, potentially hazardous GE crop while the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) assesses those potential hazards," explains a letter to the House that has been signed by dozens of food businesses and retailers, as well as interest groups and agencies representing family farmers. "Further, it would compel USDA to allow continued planting of that same crop upon request, even if in the course of its assessment the Department finds that it poses previously unrecognized risks."
Why does Monsanto and other GMO companies need this protection?

"For years, the biotech giant Monsanto has provoked outrage among its critics for suing farmers who save and replant seeds, such as soybeans and canola, from the company's patented Roundup Ready crops."

"In the case the farmers, led by lead plaintiff Bryce Stephens, sought relief against Monsanto in the form a prohibition on Monsanto from bringing suit against organic farmers regarding seed contamination, given the really real possibility of cross-pollination via the wind and animals."
Someone needs to ask Moo if her garden was planted with heritage or GMO seeds and which are being served to her family.
Elsewhere: “Monsanto each year investigates 500 farms whose fields purportedly contain Monsanto’s patented crops, even going as far as trespassing illegally on one Indiana farmer’s land. As of 2006, about 10 years after the commercial introduction of GMOs, Monsanto’s internal records show that as many as 4,531 such cases may have been settled out of court. “And all of these proceedings have been kept confidential.”
Congress can set limits on what the court is permitted to accept and process. They passed a crappy law and placed it off limits to judicial action. We do have some flaws in our governmental laws.
This is a perfect example of what you get with ‘biparisanship’!
Don’t forget the big push on this by Republican Rep. Roy Blunt!
[snip]According to an article published Monday in the New York Daily News, US Sen. Roy Blunt (R-Missouri) worked with Monsanto to craft the language in the bill.

Blunts Wikipedia page was vandalized this week to read in the first paragraph, His Senate seat was previously held by Republican Kit Bond, until Bond's retirement, and will be sold by Blunt to Monsanto Corporation upon his retirement.
I wonder if Michael Taylor (former Vice Prez of Monsanto) is STILL Bath-House Barry’s “Safe Food Czar”?
A number of my fellow Vietnam War veterans have suffered with the effects of Agent Orange caused cancers. I was based in the Delta where Operation Ranch Hand was very active.
