Caesar wasn't the only one stabbed in the back on the Ides of March!!
Quickly followed by the “Revenue Act” and the worst one of all - the Federal Reserve Act.
The FED is a key pillar of progressivism. It changed the monetary system of the USA in a huge way, and without the FED today, the US Gov’t could not operate the huge, nanny-state it does.
Eliminate the FED, and you eliminate 1000 things conservatives oppose, from Planned Parenthood to PBS.
Worse is the 10th Amendment! Actually the open conclusions that have been determined by the Supreme Courts. More harm has been cause here than any other amendment! You’d expect that it allows anything that the Federal Government wants when you look at the Supreme Court decisions on this.
Of course the effect is that the Federal Government can do anything it wants to. Hell with States rights!
The 16th Amendment is the wet dream of every Free Trader Commie Globalist......when the US went from a nation that collected revenue by tariffs on foreign goods to a nation that taxes its citizens income with a progressive income tax.
The two biggest advocates of the Income Tax are Free Traders and Communists
I think the 17th was the worst. It defeated the whole purpose of having a bicameral legislature, and made our Congress the source of the “Bread and Circuses” demands of the citizenry.
If the general government were wholly independent of the governments of the particular states, then, indeed, usurpation might be expected to the fullest extent. But, sir, on whom does this general government depend? It derives its authority from these governments, and from the same sources from which their authority is derived.
The 17th removed State agency from the federal republic. As predicted by Montesquieu, Locke, Federalists and Anti-Federalists, we slipped into a consolidated government that rules by force and not the consent of the governed.
I agree. I don't think Dingey Harry would still be in.
He has done a lot of damage to our country. . . . .
The one that gave chicks the vote is the worst one.
Just kidding ladies, ;).
Guess what, the Nevada legislature is democrat. You bet your behind Reid would be there. And another commie prick in the other seat instead of a Republican.
There sure as hell would be less conservative Republicans and more establishment tools chosen by their fellow politicians. Reduce the electorate for Senators to politicians only, great idea.
The 16th amendment has never been enacted into positive law.
check for yourself
Those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it.
I agree. the 17th has been the biggest disaster. We started electing senators by popular vote so they’re elected by the biggest city in a state. Now they go to Washington and completely ignore the will of the people.
My very bright and lovely lady agrees with this. The first time she told me, I about fell over.
What was the Revenue Act of 1913 then?
It's all clear to me now... the 17th amendment was passed in May 1913 and the new Senators popularly elected in 1914 used in a time machine to go back in time to 1912, and then FORCED their wonderful state legislature appointed counterparts to enact an income tax. (after all, Senators appointed by politicians are statesmen who believed in STATES RIGHTS and would NEVER pass a statist federal law like the 16th amendment) Those weaselly progressives!
There's just no end to the evils caused by the 17th. I hear there's now good evidence it's directly responsible for the Black Death of the 1300's.
Agree though, 1913 was a really bad year with the ratification of both the 16th and 17th.
Don’t you mean the 17th Amendment?
The Senate still serves it’s purpose by giving equal suffrage to states irregardless of their population. The people of the states are “the states” as far as I’m concerned. To hell with state GOVERNMENTS. The people elect the state governments but need their betters in elective office to choose the Senators? Cause as retarded as the average person is a politician would choose better? That’s rich.
The State governments are not better or more noble than the federal government. Governments at all levels suck.
An electorate of only politicians would be horrendous. You have to look at reality, not an idealized fantasy world that can’t exist. What would you say is the most conservative state? Probably Utah, were the GOP legislature would have been certain to reelect RINO Senator Bob Bennett while the people chose conservative Mike Lee. How about Texas where the people just elected conservative Ted Cruz? Almost every Republican in the legislature endorsed RINO David Dewhurst. It would lead to worse and less accountable Senators from both parties, in almost every state, period.
How wonderful the founders intended the constitution to be changed when needed.
