Caracas, Venezuela, Mar 6, 2013 / 12:01 pm (CNA).- A source in Venezuela has revealed to CNA that President Hugo Chavez died in bosom of the Church and received spiritual direction and the sacraments in his last days.
In announcing Chavezs death to the nation on March 5, Vice President Nicolas Maduro said the Venezuelan leader died clinging to Christ. The source in Venezuela told CNA that during the last weeks of his life, Chavez requested spiritual direction and asked to receive the sacraments.
Ever since he assumed power in 1999, Chavez butted heads continuously with the Catholic Church over statements by the bishops warning of the risks and excesses of his Socialist agenda. In 2002, Chavez accused the Venezuelan bishops of being a tumor for his revolutionary goals and demanded that the Vatican not intervene in the internal affairs of the country.
In recent years, Chavez occasionally took part in the religious services of distinct denominations, but he surprised the press in April 2012 when he showed up at a Catholic church in his hometown of Barinas to attend Holy Week services. He wore a rosary around his neck and prayed for strength to fight his illness. Last July, Chavez made public his request to meet with the Catholic bishops.
After Chavezs death, the Archdiocese of Caracas, led by Cardinal Jorge Urosa who is currently in Rome for the conclave, sent its condolences
The secretary general of the Bishops Conference of Venezuela, Bishop Jesus Gonzalez de Zarate, called for national unity. At this time let us all put forth our best sentiments, he said during an interview on Venezuelan television. Death is not the end of our life, he added. Death only opens the way to a life of complete happiness, at the side of God our Father.

Rome - The Holy Mass in honor of the late President of Venezuela Hugo Rafael Chavez Frias will be held tomorrow Friday, March 8 at 7 pm in the Church of Santa Maria ai Monti, Via della Madonna dei Monti, 41, presided by Cardinal Jorge Urosa Savino, Archbishop of Caracas who is in Rome to attend the conclave that will elect the new Pope. This was communicated to Fides by Cardinal Urosa Savino himself and called on all Venezuelans to participate in the Eucharist. http://www.news.va/en/news/americave...-the-late-pres

CARDINAL Jorge Urosa Sabino, Archbishop of Venezuela, who is in the Vatican to participate in the conclave to appoint a new pope, announced that he will celebrate in Rome: A public Mass to pray for the eternal repose of President Chávez.
This, despite the fact that Chávez, who died this week aged 58, had a major falling out with the Church a few years back. According to this report, in 2008, he called Cardinal Urosa a troglodyte and warned the Vatican that, as long as the cardinal remained as archbishop of Caracas:
I will remain very far away from the Church. - http://freethinker.co.uk/2013/03/07/troglodite-catholic-cardinal-will-hold-a-public-mass-in-rome-for-late-venezuelan-president-hugo-chavez/

Chávez was a Catholic. He intended at one time to become a priest. He saw his socialist policies (Liberation Theology) as having roots in the teachings of Jesus Christ,[361] and he publicly used the slogan of "Christ is with the Revolution!"[362] He had some disputes with both the Venezuelan Catholic clergy and Protestant groups like the New Tribes Mission.[363][364] Although he traditionally kept his own faith a private matter, Chávez over the course of his presidency became increasingly open to discussing his religious views, stating that both his faith and his version of Jesus' personal life and ideology had a profound impact on his Liberation Theology. - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hugo_Ch%C3%A1vez#Personal_life

Liberation theology is ANTI-Christ.
Can sainthood be far behind?
I believe the world is a better place for Chavez's death. If Chavez truly sought forgiveness for his sins, then he may be in a better place than he was on earth.
He might have repented; we don’t know.
Once they’ve pumped his ugly hide full of preservatives and shoved it into the glass viewing casket they’re going set up for him, I hope the Venezuelans will focus on the future and take back their country. And I’m sure the Church will support this.
Chavez had serious conflicts with the Church over the years and only a few of the bishops had the guts to oppose him and stake out their territory. Probably the only reason Chavez wasn’t even worse is thanks to the Church, so while this wasn’t a perfect solution, it probably did make things easier for Christians in VZ.
Saw Jesse Jackson on c-span preaching the funeral. Penn sitting on the front row crying holding hand with a family member. Disgusting.
i beleive in death bed confessions and forgiveness, and it is a good thing I have no say in God’s Mercy.
Roman Reactionary Disorder (RRD)
A compulsion to react to the slightest indication that the object of their devotion is being impugned, even if what they see as intolerable and censure is true.
Obama was raised in a Liberation Theology Church. The MSM took up for him. They know most people do not know that Liberation Theology is a made up theology of Commumism.
These communist assholes don’t own any neckties?

Certainly it is possible that he repented in real faith in the LOrd Jesus to save him by His sinless, shed blood, as a damned+destitute sinner, and which was also said in defense of Ted Kennedy.
However, in both cases there was zero evidence of any real repentance.
And thus, as likely with Chavez, traditional RCs were upset at Kenedy’s funeral.
Kennedy, was given Masses in his own house at the same time he impenitently promoted abortion and homosexual rights. And then was honored with a glorious funeral, in which Pres, Obama gave a eulogy, contrary to canon law., and even offered a prayer for Teddys soul. (http://www.canonlaw.info/blogarch09.htm)
And which body of law also forbids as his moral views were effectively a withdrawal of submission to the Supreme Pontiff, (Canon Law # 751)
According to Canon 1184 §, unless they gave some signs of repentance before death, the following must be deprived of ecclesiastical funerals:
1/ notorious apostates, heretics, and schismatics;
2/ those who chose the cremation of their bodies for reasons contrary to Christian faith;
3/ other manifest sinners who cannot be granted ecclesiastical funerals without public scandal of the faithful. (http://www.ewtn.com/library/liturgy/zlitur280.htm)
Kenedys RC funeral should have public scandal of the faithful, as there was not manifest signs of repentance before death
In a recent letter to the Pope which was read at his graveside, he insolently asserts he never failed to believe and respect the fundamental teachings of his church, and tried to be a faithful Catholic, etc..
The closest thing we get to any kind of contrition is the ambiguous, I know that I have been an imperfect human being, but with the help of my faith, I have tried to right my path, before he goes on to to defend his wonderful works, including universal health care. Not a word of remorse about supporting abortion or promoting homosexual rights, or indolence and a welfare state.
Nor did the pope censure him at all in his response, but the Holy Father cordially imparts his Apostolic Blessing as a pledge of wisdom, comfort and strength in the Lord. ( www.politicsdaily.com/2009/08/29/ted-kennedy-to-pope-benedict-i-am-writing-with-deep-humility/)
As one in need of grace, i do not want to be hard on struggling believers, but such men as Kennedy were critically in error and unrepentant, and illustrates what Rome effectually conveys in part.

I don’t believe my post means what you think it means.
God works in mysterious ways ...
A compulsion to continually attempt to tweak and annoy a particular group of people, with substance-less, uninformed arguments, for want of anything better to do with one's life.
Praying for the dead to please man. Not surprised.
Jackson says life is uncertain, but a life of service matters. We pray to God that Chavez finds peace and acceptance for his service, he says.
Shakedown Jackson talks about service. Meanwhile God says.."No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money."
Don't cry JJ, you will see Chavez again and his oil is keeping it hot for you.
had a major falling out with the Church a few years back.
No biggie. It's his falling out of Truth that's major now and by all accounts he never had it.
