Democratic Illinois Rep. Danny K. Davis told The Daily Caller that President Obama should have the power to raise the nations debt ceiling without congressional approval, citing the example of President Abraham Lincoln issuing the Emancipation Proclamation as a good use of presidential authority.
Sometimes when weve gotten great answers is when presidents have had enough authority to take some actions, Davis told TheDC on Capitol Hill Friday. I mean, remember that we just celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation, and if Abraham Lincoln had not had the power, authority and the will to make that decision, we may have gone on with the war that was going to last several additional years and much longer, and thousands and thousands of people could have and would have, in all probability, lost their lives.

(T)he white female often gives the black man certain kinds of recognition that the black woman oftentimes does not give him."
People still think it is a misguided attempt to salvage the economy. It is an OUTRIGHT LOOTING of the nation’s wealth, plundering TRILLIONS of dollars and handing it out to special interests (some of which may come back to the DNC or Big Daddy Sugar at some future date).
anything for the brotherhood.
I saw the Spielberg movie “Lincoln”. Everyone I said this to said I was nuts but I don’t think I am.
That movie is a VERY subtle propaganda piece for omumumba.
These are perilous times - this is Germany of 1933 and the newly elected chancellor is well on his way to consolidating his power. We see coordinated attacks in the press against conservatives, republicans and gun owners. We see coordinated attacks by union goons. We see putatively intelligent editorial writers calling for the formal abandonment of the constitution. And now this movie which everyone told me was “just an historical movie” is actually an invitation to dictatorship. I am really scared for my country and for people like us.
Should it?
Leftists! Who was the Obama crony who said that one of her two favorite political philosophers was Mao... And then there was that idiot writer for the NY Times, Thomas Friedman who longed for living in a dictatorship, like Communist China. And then don't even get me started about the NY Times and Walter Durante's hiding Stalin's systematic genocide of the Ukraine...

An Illinois Democrat. But wait-—why have a Congress at all?
Obama just makes his own laws, and we haven’t had a Budget for years. why ar we paying these a-holes
Just because Lincoln did it, doesn’t make it right.
Look into the crystal ball. What do you see? I see Venezuela.
It’s like handing over your checkbook to a three-year old.
Weimar.
I see Weimar.
Then, the Butcher of Benghazi comes for us.
The Emancipation Proclamation applied only to people held as slaves in states that were in rebellion against the United States. To free slaves in states that were not in rebellion against the United States, a number of amendments to the Constitution had to be passed.
Is the good Congressman suggesting that the enforcement of the debt ceiling constitutes an act of rebellion against the Unites States, thereby giving Obama the power to void the debt ceiling?
Historically challenged Rep Davis should know that the Emancipation Proclamation only pertained to states then at war with the United States.
Maybe. It was just a proclamation. Nothing behind it. Lincoln could just have made a speech saying the same things.

Since Davis is advocating for an overthrow of the Constitution, the question I have is simply this:
Is Davis willing to fight and die to overthrow the Constitution that he has been sworn to defend and protect?
He has a point there; most people prefer fresh sushi as well.
And take away Holder’s job?
