An anti-Thanksgiving potluck planned for Monday night is stirring controversy on the University of Virginia (UVA) campus.
The event, hosted by the American Indian Student Union (AISU), aims to discuss Thanksgiving from a Native American perspective over a potluck dinner.
Students at the University of Virginia are holding an anti-Thanksgiving potluck on Monday night. The anti-Thanksgiving celebration will provide a contrast with the typical American view of Thanksgiving, AISU president Katelyn Krause promised an NBC affiliate.
Krause declined an interview with Campus Reform.
Nicole Bailey, Executive-in-Chief of the conservative newspaper, The Virginia Advocate, however, told Campus Reform that she understands the intent of the groups potluck, but disagrees with this particular event as a means to convey their message.
They think that by doing events that put down what people understand to be modern Americans realization of the American dream and American story is a way to raise awareness about the less glamorous parts of Americas history, said Bailey.
Thats frankly not true, she added.
Marian Anderfursen, Director of Media Relations for UVA, told Campus Reform that the university encourages such political dialogue on campus.
Our students are engaged in issues and they explore a lot of different ideas and we support that, she said.
According to their website, one of AISUs primary objectives is to provide an American Indian point-of-view by participating in campus debates on diversity and voicing support concerns on actions of both student government and the University administration
Some groups just migrated here before some others.
My ancestor came here in 1729 with a land grant of 5,000 acres in VA. He was not welcome in Switzerland because he was a Mennoite. He gained another 5,000 from the Crown. He notes that one day the Native Tribe simply moved on and did not return.

Well said!
The best way to do the radicals one in the eye is to publish some of the great stories of yore, of how Indians were extremely patriotic and loyal to the US in time of war.
“The Iroquois Confederacy, having declared war on Germany in 1917, had never made peace and so automatically became party to World War II. The Navajo and other tribes were so eager to go to war that they stood for hours in bad weather to sign their draft cards, while others carried their own rifles so they would be ready for battle when they joined up.
“Unwilling to wait for their draft numbers, one-fourth of the Mescalero Apaches in New Mexico enlisted. Nearly all the able-bodied Chippewas at the Grand Portage Reservation enlisted. In a story that has been attributed to many other tribes as well, Blackfeet Indians mocked the need for a conscription bill. “Since when,” their members cried, “has it been necessary for Blackfeet to draw lots to fight?”
The point being that Native American Indians have long earned their place at the Thanksgiving table, unless, of course, they are Republicans who still hold great animosity to “Ol’ Frank” Roosevelt, who made Thanksgiving a standardized national holiday.
It’s been observed that your typical American Indian is more redneck than redskin. He likes his guns, his pickup truck, and his freedom.
Well, I’m convinced. I propose we replace Thanksgiving immediately with @#$%* the Indians, the Pilgrims Don’t Need Your Help Day.
Now that’s just sick!
(and I’m LMAO!)
Do the Indian go on record with their rapes, tortures, murders, cannibalism and human sacrifice?
A local pastor told me that before we arrived, when the Indians warred against each other, a touch on the head was victory. In other words, he claimed they never killed each other.
The crap people believe never fails to amaze me.
Thanks drewh.
Oh, and in a related story, ‘Civ sez Paul McCartney can go f- himself.
McCartney says skip the turkey on Thanksgiving

Or, how about "Students Wildly Indignant about Nearly Everything"?
I find it amazingly interesting and sad that seemingly the more esteemed, noble and honorable the founding of an institution of higher learning was originally; the sillier, more inane and meaninglessly self-absorbed the level to which they’ve deteriorated intellectually; e.g., Harvard, Yale, Princeton, UVA, etc., IMPO.
They are brain washed.
Give a liberal an inch and they will take a mile. So never give them an inch or a job.
Great post. They are a disgrace.
Yep I know some very good indians in Virginia and they worship Christ. Good country people.
I’m so glad I went to college before all of this diversity stupidity.
We studied hard, and on the weekends we partied hard.
It was an engineering school, so we didn’t have time for much anti-anything.
Heads full of mush. These folks will be in charge in 15-20 years. Does that scare you?
That would be unthankful. A narcissistic sense of entitlement.
What a bunch of spoiled-brat, freakin' ingrates.
