Well, that explains a LOT!!!

was this held over his head to get him to lie to Congress about Benghazi?

love the timing....

so, does he not get questioned about Benghazi now that he retired?

great news this week, eh? layoffs, Iran, Benghazi....4 more years....what could POSSIBLY go wrong?

His wife certainly agrees with moveon.org's characterization now...

Your theory matches my thinking.

Once a military man leaves the service and, in this case, public life, he’s free to speak as a citizen.

First the post-Benghazi military purge, then that ad with dozens of retired officers opposing o, now this.

Do I hear the Jaws music, faintly, in the distance?

Good grief, is every officer over LT in our military and navy a goof ball? I fear for our sons and daughters who enlist that they will be led and sent into danger by officers who make bad decisions.

Government attracts the corrupt and inept.

This is nothing new.

Like when it was discovered Bush’s homeland security boss Chertoff, had people who’d entered the country illegally, during war time, wandering around the inside of his private residence.

Going to be interesting to see if this affair is ancient history, just recently or still ongoing.
It does make a difference when you think about it.
My wild guess would be ancient affair being used for blackmail and Petraeus decided he had enough.
If that's the case, Obobo may be in for *Mr. Frog's wild ride*............Can only hope so.

A CIA director putting himself in a position to be blackmailed makes no sense. It would be a no brainer. Does he really have that much of a lack of self control? Something doesn’t add up.

I don’t think it would have mattered....the Dems had pretty well killed Romney with “He’s a nasty Rich guy “ campaign.

Except Chertoff like most others in government, did not have the guts or honor to resign.

He went to the White House...

More like he was summoned to the White House.

IMO, this WAS NOT Petraeus’ idea.

Look at the department heads being rolled right now.

Holder
Clinton
Petraeus

This isn’t unusual for a second term start, but it sure is off to the races early isn’t it. These are three major departments.

If Clinton and Holder aren’t demonic enough to back your play, you must really have some vile plans in store.

Just too “coincidental” that Hillary, Panetta, and now Petraus are gone.

The only question to be answered is did they leave to distance themselves from Obama, or did Obama force them out, to put distance between them (as the fall guys for Benghazi) and himself.

Benghazi-Coward Obama has his first fall guy!

Will that be enough to keep Obama from being Impeached as the Coward in Chief?

Drudge said Hillary was about to resign too yesterday. Maybe Petraeus did a little “working across the aisle” with Da Hill? Maybe this is what distracted them from reading the Benghazi cables during those 7 late night hours.

I stepped out of the circular firing squad on Weds night and don’t plan on returning there ever again. We need to pull together right now and prepare for a protracted struggle.

“So this is what Obama had on him to make him go along with the Bengazi cover-up!”

Exactly my first thought. Blackmail is a powerful tool. It would’ve been nice if he had resigned (for whatever reason) a week BEFORE the election — and then spilled his guts.

He didn’t resign because of the affair. He resigned ‘cause he doesn’t want to testify in upcoming hearings.

I honestly don’t know. I’m not exactly privy to the high-level goings-on, so for all I know Powell is either 100% persona-non-grata or the toast of the Pentagon elite. The former would surprise me, though, since we’ve been burdened with the likes of Mullen, Casey, Dempsey, and their ilk for so long. There’s obviously a lack of character involved in reaching those career high points. You don’t tend to see many Peter Pace or Hugh Shelton types these days.

Whatever it is, this excuse of an affair (which sounds highly unlikely) is an incredibly quick way to exit the Obama administration (and this is particularly interesting because of the shadow of Benghazi).

He didn't even have to give 2 weeks notice or wait for a replacement.
