While i do believe that most polls are over sampling democrats, i think it's clear Romney would lose if the election were held today...Rasmussen has him up only one but the swing state picture is much worse when you look at the individual states...especially Ohio. We are kiddig ourselves if we think were going to match the 2010 turnout model with Obama at the top of the ticket. It will probably be somewhere between 2008 and 2010.
The only time Romney made progress in the polls was when he added Ryan to the ticket. THats the one of the few times he has sowed any guts in this campaign.....
Mitt, unshackle Ryan and start attaking Obama hard, because if you continue this McCain style campaign you are headed for the same result.
he addedRyan to the ticke.
They (We) don't call the GOP "...the stupid party..." for no reason.
Sure, it could happen again, owing mostly to the GOP suicidal desire to appease the middle, the moderates.
Check out a movie ( "The Man In the Grey Flannel Suit," starring Gary Cooper.) to see how GOP's desire to conform became a disasterous, albeit well-accepted, obsession.
“Why must everyone who doesnt view things the way you do be a troll... this is a legit concern”
Like the concern in 2000? 2002? 2004? 2010? The Wisconsin recall?
If you are sitting on your rear “worrying” and coming here looking for therapy, then you are a troll. Go out and canvas if you need to feel better.
Those of us that are paying attention see these polls, which is 99.9% of the concern trolls problem, and see a deliberate effort to poll more Democrats than GOP/Ind, banking on a turnout from 2008 that CANNOT be repeated due to dissatisfaction with a sitting president that has a lousy economy and an electorate that by a margin of 68% says that the nation is going in the wrong direction.
And with that, he manages to get at most 2-4% point leads in those polls that is oversampling Dems by 10-20%.
That is not “wishful thinking”, that is just plain fact, that a president does not win in these conditions no matter how many articles you read on MSNBC or CNN.
It is not 2008 anymore.
It’s not turnout models that made Ras change his sample, its PARTY AFFILIATION that has changed now from 2008.
More people identify themselves as Republican.
And what is the current Rasmussen poll showing in VA?
The problem is the base, us, see this as an existential contest requiring an ideologically clear campaign. Romney and, to a lesser extent, Ryan see the issue as competence requiring a technocratic solution. We’re just not going to get a fire-breathing “death to the enemies of freedom” -style message from Romney. Nevertheless, we need to first get Obama out so we can live to fight the good fight another day; Romney is the best weapon at hand.
I think if it was today Romney would win in a landslide, as he will on Nov. 6th. You are doing precisely what the media wants you to do.. PANIC! Stop drinking their KOOL-AID.
You need a Chucky Cheese Troll pop up game-bop-bop-bop... should make you feel better...
while I may personally have preferred a more aggressive campaign than Romney is running... this campaign is NOTHING like McLame’s
Romney is staking everything on Obama disqualifing himself, and simply presenting himself as an acceptable alternative.
In a month and a half we’ll know if the strategy worked.
Mitt sit down with Palin and have a meeting of the mind. agree to her having a meaningful cabinet position and then turn her loose. let her barnstorm where she thinks it’s needed. Like an independent campaign and yes that would entail the risk of limiting yourself to one term. At least that way would get you one term.
Please cease those activities Republicans are so good at, IE snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.
Even better, stay home, watch TV, tell the Democrats to pound sand when it comes to debates and let Palin and Ryan do the campaigning.
Mitt needs to run like he did against Gingrich.
He will not be able to just slide into the Presidency.
That said, if the polls are truely oversampled with Democrats and in fact if he is 8 points up at this time he may think he can coast.
Mitt should hire me or some other surly curmudgeon to stand close and elbow him in the short ribs every time his mouth starts spewing progressive garbage.
Romney doesn’t find the Obama regime anywhere near offensive enough to do battle with it. He really isn’t concerned with issues of vital importance to conservatives.
both sides seem to be satisfied with where the race currently is. I have never seen a race like this in my life, boring doesn’t even describe it... it’s more like NOTHING.
Romney should refuse to debate Obama on the grounds that the moderators are way to biased towards Obama.
Either refuse or just the two of them on stage asking questions of each other.
HMMM go on stage letting the mods think they will run it and then ignore them and engage in a true debate directly with Obama. That would leave the mods spitting and cursing and Obama at a total lose without the soft questions.
I’m wondering if Romney has a rope a dope strategy or if he’s just a dope.
I have this suspicion that the Obama campaign is flooding the news cycles with small inconsequential missteps in order to keep Romney underwater.
Some notes on other things mentioned in this thread.
Sitting down with Palin does nothing at this point.
No, they aren’t taking one for the team to blunt the Tea Party. The stakes are too high.
Ryan pick was rock solid. A popular politician from the Rust Belt area. He’ll appeal to the blue collar workers who haven’t been drugged, hypnotized or otherwise left wing fanatics.
McCain is a curmudgeon and he couldn’t win against anybody. Even now he’s reverting back to his curmudgeon ways and admonishing Romney on his campaign.
Ron Paul was, is and always will be an idiot.
On the other hand, Paul Ryan is a totally different story, hes got wit, charm and cuts to the quick on issues of eminent concern, so much so that it leaves Obama with indignant-indigestion.
And the media will do their best to not let their viewers see Ryan on TV. This leaves Romney floundering with his “snatch defeat from the jaws of victory” act.
Don’t know what election your watching but I’m still thinking R/R will win 317-221 or more, Could be as high as 353-185.
Wait till the debates before the “sky is falling” posts.
McCain is a progressive, a Fabian socialist, a sufferer of Stockholm syndrome and has used up all credit accrued while in uniform. A curmudgeon, hardly.
Can’t say I disagree with that...
I hope you dont ever work on a campaign or in PR.
Your suggestions are to refuse to debate because “WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA the press is unfair to me”, and to stay away from the campaign trail and let Palin take over campaigning?
Are you serious? lol
