Classy response. The General is free to tell his family how to behave, and can enforce military rules of behavior on those within his command.

A private citizen is not in his command. If someone in the Administration wants to call Terry Jones and counsel him it should be someone else.

Unbelievable. While I think Pastor Jones is a theological a$$hole, the idea of an active duty general officer calling a private citizen to ask them to voluntarily curtail their first ammendment rights is outrageous.

How about the General calling his subordinate commanders instead and make sure all of their deployed troops have their weapons loaded and at the ready so they can defend themselves (and maybe send a few extra Muzzies off to Allah)?
