At 2:00 p.m. today in Tampa, the Republican National Committee, led by Team Romney, is moving to shut down conservative grassroots activists. Ive been on the phone with several individuals involved in the fight who tell me that the fight is not over, it is only just starting.
Specifically, the media is reporting that the rules fight is over because Team Romney is abandoning Ben Ginsbergs effort to allow candidates to control delegates. Under an initial proposal, delegates would, in effect, be chosen by the presumed nominees campaign and not based on votes in the states and delegate selection processes in the states.
That issue appears resolved, but several people Ive spoken to this morning make clear that Team Romney and the RNC establishment are using that compromise as a red herring to distract from two major rules change proposals that would decimate Republican grassroots and prevent upstart political campaigns.
Reports that the floor fight threat is over might be designed to calm the grassroots and get them to ignore what is coming at 2 oclock.
The first rule to be proposed is one that would give the Republican National Committee the power to change rules between conventions with a three-quarters vote of the RNC. One source tells me, With a Republican President, of course this is doable. Everybody will roll over if a President Romney asks them too. Theyll be able to get Ben Ginsbergs proposal next year.
In other words, if Team Romney prevails in this rules change, they dont have to worry about Ben Ginsberg not getting his way today on the delegate changes. Theyll be able to do it later when the press and grassroots are not watching.
The second rules change would front load winner takes all primaries.

Regardless of the Ron Paul, or the grassroots Conservative targeting of this move by Team Romney on behalf of Romney for the benefit of Romney, it is most certainly NOT of, by, or for the people.
As a child Grandpa taught my older brother, and myself to play chess. At home my brother, and I would agree to play the game, but my older brother would be disadvantaged at some point, and would all of a sudden start spouting rules I was unaware, and ultimately he would win. Grandpa confirmed to me later that those rules my older brother insisted were legitimate were in fact contrived for his benefit to win the game. Older brother pulled that stunt multiple times, and I finally refused to play the game anymore.
Willard is NOT my older brother, but my experience tells me there are similarities. I really like the fact my older brother lives in another State.
Prayers for this country.
Typically republican - Determined to alienate their conservative base and snatch drefeat from the jaws of victory.
I believe many at the top of the party would rather lose the presidential election than lose their own power and influence.

Damn straight. If there was ever a reason to vote against Ron Paul it's his dishonest, petulant supporters.
You are lying about the lying. Liar.
You must have posted to the wrong person.
HUH, I asked if what you said was truthful then why hasn;t Newt, Rick S, Rick P, Sarah, Michelle B, De Mint etc all said something and got into this?
It’s a question.
You reply don’t worry about you and do I know any good jokes about Democrat plantation dwellers.
He’s already distanced himself from the platform conservativs are so proud of.
So, we want CLOSED PRIMARIES so that infiltrators cannot disrupt our primaries and pick our nominees.
But we want OPEN CONVENTIONS so any minority faction of 25% or so can disrupt the convention in prime time?
Petulent? LOL I’ve never see a worse bunch of petulent babies as you guys.
I am a conservative, not a republican.
To all FReepers who are ABO, who say you will get rid of Obama first, then hold RINOmney’s feet to the fire to keep him conservative...
This is your first battle. If you can’t win this one, don’t pretend your voice matters to him at all going forward. You will be run over by a RINO. YOUR RINO that YOU elected.
As for me...
Sorry, gone rogue, gone Galt, gone international. Gone.
Conventions are a sick joke. Shut -em down and spend the money on TV commercials. That’s all they are anyway.
After what happened with Ted Cruz here in Texas and other races around the country, you better believe the Republocrats in charge of the GOP are going to try to kill this movement before 2016.
This has nothing to do with Paulbots (that’s their excuse, which is why they have placated them for so long) and everything to do with tea party conservatives, religous conservatives and Goldwater conservatives.

Golly, it looks like Mittens is just what those of us who actually know something about him have been saying he is - a candidate to the left of Ted Kennedy on social issues and a tool of the country club GOPe.
Folks here can vote for him if they like and continue delivering power to the handful of sociopaths who constitute the GOPe, but I won’t. The economy is going to collapse no matter who wins. It might as well collapse on Obamalini. The “civil war” needs to happen sooner rather than later.
I disagree, rw. The first point has a fair possibility of being about ron paul (albeit with a huge over-reach for centralized power) but the 2nd two items of contention have nothing whatsoever to do with rp.
Not all want that as it will shut out Independents.
But we want OPEN CONVENTIONS so any minority faction of 25% or so can disrupt the convention in prime time?
If disruption in prime time is the price that must be paid -- so be it.
You bet. I haven’t gone to his site since he turned it into a partisan site.

Voters Want Less Government. Will GOP Communicate to Them?
By: Daniel Horowitz (Diary) | August 27th at 03:02 PM | 11
Amidst the torrent of polling data on an array of political races and policy issues, it is easy to lose focus on the central point of contention in todays world of politics. The fundamental disagreement between the right and the left is over the proper role of government. The left feels that government should control virtually every aspect of our economy and our lives from cradle to grave while the right believes that government must focus on its core constitutional duties, and that it is, in fact, deleterious to our lives and prosperity when it traverses those constitutional confines.
In terms of the publics views on this central point of contention, there is no ambiguity in the polling data. The latest Washington Post/ABC-News poll shows that registered voters support limited government with fewer services over larger government with more services by a whopping 56-38% margin. When asked in the recent Fox News survey whether they believe government should leave them alone or lend a helping hand, likely voters chose the limited government message by a 54-35% margin. Among Independent voters, the margin was 63-25%.
With such ubiquitous support for limited government, why is Obama leading on most policy issues, especially those issues like healthcare and energy where he has used the boot of government to spike the cost of vital services on average Americans? How is he neck-and-neck with Romney in national polls and ahead in many battleground state polls?

There was a time when he was a useful voice. Too bad.
