Polls closed in Connecticut at 8 p.m. as voters cast ballots in the state's primary elections Tuesday.
The Associated Press delcared Linda McMahon the winner of the GOP Senate race over Chris Shays about 40 minutes after the polls closed.
Elections officials said turnout appears to be on track to hit 25 percent to 30 percent as Republicans and Democrats picked their candidates for the November general election.
Hotly contested races for the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives dominate Tuesday's ballots.
Many polling places saw a slow stream of voters.
Secretary of the State's office spokesman Av Harris said turnout was 7 to 8 percent in the morning and no major problems were reported.

Esty winning the rat primary is as bad as the RINO winning ours (we did NOT need him, especially if Donavan had won the rat primary)
Early reports have RINO Roraback winning - disaster.
???
Shays was never a senator.
Well, I do watch WWE, pretty much every Monday. I have a mad crush on HBK, since I first saw him in the 80’s. And go Shamus!!
Judging from your posts, I would wonder if you watched WWE only during the “Attitude” era. The WWE has gone to a less risque more “PG” type of rating for the past few years.
Also, they without a doubt ar big supporters of the military, and when the Iraq war started the heels were against it and the faces were for it.
Linda’s 2 kids are both married to their first spouses, and I know Linda has at least 3 possibly more grandchildren.
This all great news. I missed the news about Alan West...BRAVO!
I refuse to join either party, so couldn’t vote, but McMahon is better than the demo-weasel Murphy.
FReepers in conservative states have no idea the kind of fight we have here. Even a RINO is preferable to some commie pinko union thug, and generally that is our choice.
Hey, as long as we got rid of that virus, Shays. We’ve had quite enough of that fool.
You can say that again! Remember how many of us had to support (and defend here on FR) Joe Lieberman vs that anti-war moonbat Ned Lamont? Ugh...
I know what you mean, being from CT. McMahon learned from her mistakes last time. She is still RINO-ish, but she was able to persuade Tom Scott to help her plan the campaign. Scott is no RINO.
Interesting... I didn't realize she had collaborated with Tom Scott. She's running a much better campaign so far this time. She's a RINO, but a MUCH better candidate than that Namby Pamby Chris Shays. I've met Shays - he seems like a nice guy - but, man, you think you're speaking with a liberal DemocRAT. I've never known where he stands on the issues...
If the race was Shays vs Murphy, Murphy would win in a landslide. At least we have a chance with Linda...
RINO beats uber-RINO! So exciting! I haven't been this psyched since Revenge of the Nerds IV turned out to be slightly less awful than Revenge of the Nerds III.
>> She got her a$$ handed to her last time because she is a RINO. Why not nominate a conservative. <<
There are conservative candidates in CT? Where? They're harder to find than Waldo. Besides, if we actually DID find someone who was pro-life, pro-traditional marriage, cut government, told unions to F--- off, etc., a bunch of freepers would sneer that they're a RINO anyway because the candidate lives in New England and isn't 100% perfect. Witness all the b----ing at the most conservative Governor that NJ has had in 80 years.
>> Chris Shays blew it when he said he wouldnt vote for Linda McMahon in the general and made himself look petulant. <<
Hey, I think Shays deserves credit for at least being honest with voters and pre-emptively announcing he plans to help the RAT win if he doesn't get his way in the primary. It's a notch above Scozzafava, Murkowski, Castle, etc., waiting until AFTER the primary to stab the party in the back. At least it debunks the "moderates believe in party unity unlike the mean-old conservatives" B.S. You'd never see a guy like Mark Kirk (or his supporters on FR) admit he planned to endorse Alexi Ginnoanolias if he had lost the primary to a conservative, even though it was obvious he's exactly the kind of turd who hates conservatives and would do that simply to spite the GOP.
>> Its quite an accomplishment to make McMahon look like a stateswoman. I have heard shes improved as a candidate since 2010, but shell still lose to Congressman Christopher Murphy. <<
I'd hold my nose for her and support her over the marxist Murphy, but the cynic in me says she might as well save time now by writing her concession speech. We're not going to win this one. Ditto with that perennial loser the West Virgina GOP runs for U.S. Senate over and over and over, somehow expecting the results will be different after the last butt-whupping the RATs gave him.
>> Richard Blumenthal is tha scumbag who should be in jail for stolen valor when he falsely claimed to be a Vietnam veteran. Im a little surprised a real Vietnam veteran hasnt broken his face open for him. Anyway, if Blumenthal is the kind of scum Connecticut elects, then yeah, the place is a hopeless toilet. <<
That's exactly why McMahon is a joke. I could see "giving her another shot" if she lost by 2% to a popular entrenched RAT, but she lost by double digits to a RAT scumbag nobody liked during an otherwise GREAT year for the GOP. Why so many freepers want to give her another shot is beyond me. They must be guttons for punishment. (not that Shays is anymore deserving of support)
If I was stuck in CT and faced with such a pathetic set of options, I'd most likely throw by vote away in the primary by voting for some unknown conservative polling 1%
Roraback won in CT-05, which was the CT-06 until 2002 and used to be held by RINO Nancy Johnson. RINOs Shays, McKinney and Lowell were from the CT-04.
Not only wrong, but an idiot to boot!
One thing I noticed when I went to the polls...there were more republicans voting then dems. Like a 10-1 ratio. I wasn’t even think about it, but it was so apparent when I walked in, I kinda got excited. Add the defeatist look on the dem poll workers faces, and my day was made!
I live in CT also, and agree with your comments. We take what we can get. Linda is far away a much better choice than Shays. Shays, one of the key architects of McCain -Feingold, and he is proud of that. I have hope that Linda can win as Murphy is not as well known as Blumenthal and voters now have a more favorable impression of her. She is quite a retail politician and works hard for the votes she gets. Shays just assumed we welcome him back. He is a fool and obviously wrong on just abotu everything.
GO LINDA.
Ditto for me. A few weeks ago I got a push poll call from Shays asking me if I wanted "the person with the most money, or the experienced leader in the Senate". I told the guy I wanted neither, in fact I wanted my street to be adopted by Jim DeMint because I'm sick of the 0bama lite we get in this state. The guy just laughed , but I think he agreed with me.
That was a great debate and I do remember it. Naturally Blumenthal still won without breaking a sweat in CT. I can't wait till I'm able to move out of here.
Yup, my reason exactly. Shays helped give the anti-impeachment crowd the fig leaf of bi-partisanship. He still got his clock cleaned after that.
there was no unknown other on the ballot. Just 2 names. No write-ins allowed in primaries.
I gladly voted LINDA. I voted for the 1% Bulgarian conservative in the March Straw Poll. He got 1%.
