I wondered why they were addressing her as Karen. I think it’s a big mistake for an adult to allow children to address them by their fist name as that alone diminishes adult authority.
I have a relative who WAS a school bus driver and the things she had to put up with. Oh...yeah. One time the kids were being unruly so she stepped on the brakes quickly to get their attention. There was no traffic. What did these children do? They called her a whore. She wrote all of them up to the school. By the way...she had to do this on her own time. What did the school do? She got in trouble for trying to get the kids to behave. The administrators at public (gov’t) schools are a HUGE part of the problem! BTW, my relative gave up and quit. She was spending most of her day writing kids only to have NOTHING done about the obnoxious BRATS! These are the kids we are saving this country for? Maybe they deserve what they get!

Sadly, on one video, a girl’s voice was saying the most dreadful things.
If granny had verbally berated one of the ringleaders, it would have stopped right there. She had no clue, nor any way to deal with the human pestilance. She was useless. Why was she there? Of course, she needed the money.
But our society does not allow that.
That being said, humans are pack animals and bad behavior begets more bad behavior. This isn't any worse than the "flash mobs" of mass theft by similar delinquents.
I'm glad the public rose to criticize and support, but the response is taking on a kind of overwrought self-righteousness.
None of us know, for absolutely certain, that none of our kids are capable of this. I just wish a whipping was still an option--punish, and get on with life.

I agree with the general thrust of what you say, but you’re dead wrong about the 13 year olds running in fear if Grandma started playing bop on their heads. She’d be dead. You think these kids don’t act like packs and take down and kill their prey? The harrassment the woman received is the appetizer. Video abounds of kids - children - this age taking down adults and beating them to pulps.

The day is past for citizen activism, much less old ladies. I saw a black man an inch from being killed by yout’s who he was calling out verbally. That was nearly 15 years ago. These are probably the children of those children.
I’m sure plenty of suggestions will show up on this thread as to the cure, but most are huff and puff. You’re not the parents (who know who they are) and you’re not a cop/social worker/warden. Unless you’re called by God to admonish these savages, don’t. One exception, if somebodies life is threatened - do what you must...
If you must live or travel in these hellholes, carry. If you don’t live there, don’t go. Build your society away from society.
In our school district, if that happened, the driver would report it after arriving at the school and the kids parents would be held responsible for getting them too and from school for the rest of the year.
The parents know this and the kids know this.
In my day, any adult—even a grandmotherly old lady—treated to such gratuitous verbal abuse by a child would have slapped the taste buds right out of his mouth. More importantly, all other adults (bystanders, school officials, and parents) would have backed her up.
But now the school officials and parents will back up the little monsters instead. I’d be damned if I’d ever work for a school nowadays. I’d be in jail within a week of starting the job.
This behavior is the result of several things, the gubmit making it illegal to control kids and the kids know it, worthless parents not actually parenting and the damn schools not wanting to lose that per head gubmit money by kicking this type out.
A few years ago, I had two very scary encounters with rabid packs of teenagers in Florida. The first happened while I was walking alone on the beach and the other when I made the mistake of trying to sit in “their” personal sitting area in the mall. In both cases, I was very scared, didn’t say anything to further inflame the situation and got the hell outta there as soon as possible! That poor “old” lady (only 2 years older than I) did the only thing she could: sit there and endure it until either she or they left. If she had verbally reprimanded them, things would have quickly gotten worse. If she had fought back physically, they would have attacked her like a pack of wolves...and she would have been arrested like George Zimmerman! I can only imagine her terror.

Back when I rode a bus to school anyone doing something like that would have been grabbed by the bus driver (a man) and physically THROWN off the bus ( and I mean THROWN), and forbidden to ride it for a long time.
I saw several bullies thrown off several miles from their home to the relief of all the children.
