~The FReeper Canteen Presents~

Road Trip: Maxwell-Gunter Air Force Base, Alabama

Maxwell Air Force Base, officially known as Maxwell-Gunter Air Force Base, is a United States Air Force installation under the Air Education and Training Command (AETC). The installation is located in Montgomery, Alabama, US. It was named in honor of Atmore, Alabama native Second Lieutenant William C. Maxwell.

Maxwell AFB is the headquarters of Air University (AU), a major component of Air Education and Training Command (AETC), and is the U.S. Air Force's center for Joint Professional Military Education (PME). The host wing for Maxwell-Gunter is the 42nd Air Base Wing (42 ABW). The 908th Airlift Wing (908 AW) is a tenant activity and the only operational flying wing at Maxwell.

Under Air University are three principal schools that provide various levels of Joint Professional Military Education (JPME). The first is Squadron Officer School (SOS), a nearly 2 month program oriented towards First Lieutenants and Captains in the Regular Air Force, Air Force Reserve and Air National Guard.

The second, Air Command and Staff College (ACSC) is a year long program for Air Force officers (to include Air Force Reserve and Air National Guard), Department of Defense civil servants in the grade of GS-13, as well as select officers from other U.S. and Allied armed forces in the rank of Major, Lieutenant Commander, Squadron Leader or equivalent. ACSC is considered "intermediate" level JPME.

The third program, Air War College (AWC) is also a year long program and selects students from the same sources as ACSC, but the minimum rank for attendance rises to Lieutenant Colonel, Commander, Wing Commander or equivalent or DoD civil servants in the grade of GS-14. AWC is considered "senior" level JPME.

Maxwell AFB also hosts the Air Force Officer Accession and Training Schools (AFOATS), which has oversight for two of the Air Force's three officer commissioning programs, Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFROTC), which is headquartered at Maxwell and Air Force Officer Training School (OTS), which is headquartered and conducted at Maxwell AFB, having relocated from Lackland AFB, Texas in the 1990s.

Capitalizing on the new facilities built for OTS in the 1990s, Maxwell is now the only base hosting the annual fall/spring semester and summer Field Training (FT) encampments for AFROTC cadets that they must attend before commissioning. The Civil Air Patrol's corporate and joint CAP-USAF headquarters is also located at Maxwell.

We are using all the grey water that we can capture now. Hubby even bought a pump to take the water from the tub, through a tube out the window and into a rain barrel! LOL!

We have had just enough rain last month so that the yard looks way better than it did the month before. We’re promised some tonight, but looks like it’s slip-sliding away from us! *sigh*

I’m doing fine, trying to work myself to a nubbin at Runamuck.

We have had some unpleasantness at work to deal with.

It has been unnerving.

I think we all need to start a subset of the Diet club in the Canteen.

I think all my extra manual labor has been negated by thirst quenchers.

LOL.. your husband is too cute and resourceful.

Glad you got a bit of rain..

We have had nothing but rain. Too much is no good either.

Real wood mulch as chips will help your wet go farther too..

We use that and the millions of pine needles from the neighbor’s tree that blow into our yard. They make a real blanket to hold in water...not very pretty though. LOL!

Well, I need to head out...gotta work in the morning. It’s so good to catch up with you. Been a while! Take care! (((hugs)))

Right now the sun is out, but clouds are hanging around. Maybe they will stay away long enough for us to see the moon.

Moonrise is at 10:53p

Good morning, Everyone.
Good morning to our

military, our allies, and their families

Thank you, Lauren, for preparing the Canteen for today’s activities.

DC Metroland Weather

~ Today...Mostly cloudy with isolated showers in the morning...
Then partly sunny in the afternoon.
Highs in the lower 70s. Northeast winds 5 to 10 mph.
Chance of rain 20 percent.

~ Tonight...Mostly cloudy. Lows in the mid 50s.
Southeast winds around 5 mph...
Becoming southwest after midnight.

Okay, still work piled up to my ears
so it'll be another post and run day for me.
From the looks of things
it'll be next week before I'll have
time to hang around the Canteen in the mornings.

However, I will be posting the thread on Thursday night
and hope to be here to greet everyone on Friday morn. Until then...
Please stay.

*HUGS*

Great to see you this morning. Had a smooth commute in to the office this morning.

How are things going with you?
