Republican Gov. Chris Christie is more popular than ever in New Jersey, according to a new poll.
Christies approval rating stands at 59 percent the highest ever in the regular polls conducted by Quinnipiac University. Christie locks up the support of 92 percent of Republicans and 64 percent of independents. Democrats make up the only political group that views him more negatively than favorably; two out of three Democrats disapprove of Christie.
The new numbers suggest Christie remains a powerful political brand at least in his home state just as his name continues to be floated as a possible vice presidential pick for Mitt Romney. Christie has demurred when the question comes up, but Republicans are also looking to Christie for a possible presidential run in 2016 if Republicans dont win the White House in 2012.
Christies approval ratings have been climbing upward since a minor blip in January when he dropped down to 53 percent. Meanwhile, his disapproval rating has been falling and stands now at 36 percent.

For once we need a real conservative on the ticket. Someone that can make a difference. The POTUS is not the only one up there.
BAM! (Hand to forehead.)
In the last election I voted for Lonegan. When Christie was nominated, I was under no illusions about this guy, but held my nose and voted for him.
At this point, I have lost all my pride. If Romney picked this RINO as a running mate, I would hold my nose and vote for him anyway.
I would vote for the devil himself if he was running against Obama.
But that won’t get Romney elected and neither would a Romney/Christie ticket. That is so illogical is almost beneath attack.
I certainly wouldnt want him on the ticket, but I am content with him as governor of New Jersey. His is the best we can hope for from a state like that.
Ditto.
1 RINO + 1 RINO = 4 more years of Obama
Better to get someone from a key state that's in play but has good Republicans in office (Virginia, Ohio or North Carolina), or a key region that offsets Romney's weaknesses (or someone from the South) .. and give Christie a position that he's ideally suited for, like Attorney General.
A ticket dominated by northeastern gungrabbing liberals ought to be a nonstarter.
Cantor is a friggin joke...he’s an establishment yes man...part of the problem. But he’d fit into a Romney VP fine because both are RINO’s anyways.
Any conservative that latches onto the SS MITTANIC better be prepared to lose their credibility and possible career, if and when Mitt loses to Obama. Who’d want to be on RINO cruise ship of death.
what do those questions have to do with the fact that Christie presents as a man with no personal control over his own body?
I supppose a RINO addict of any kind would be preferred to Corzine, but we are talking about national and world leadership here, not who is the quickest wit in Big Mama’s house in NJ
I for one am tired of politicos I can’t stand to look at or listen to. That includes “Ward Cleaver” Mittens for the next 8 months until he gets his azz whipped by the red diaper mafia and fades away into the La Jolla sunset

Chris Christie goes berserk when questioned about appointment of Muslim judge:
Ignorance is behind the criticism of Sohail Mohammed, he told a reporter asking about the complaints that he may be inadequate to be a judge because he defended Muslim Americans who were wrongly arrested post-9/11. He is an extraordinary American who is an outstanding lawyer and played an integral role in the post-September 11th period in building bridges between the Muslim American community in this state and law enforcement, Gov. Christie argued, adding that he was disgusted, candidly, by some of the questions he was asked at the Senate judiciary committee.
But it was a follow-up question on the fear of Sharia Law that set the governor off. Sharia Law has nothing to do with this at all, its crazy! he cried. The guy is an American citizen! He concluded that the Sharia Law business is just crap and Im tried of dealing with the crazies, adding with disgust and frustration that its just unnecessary to be accusing this guy of things just because of his religious background.

I agree whole heartedly that Romney/Christie ticket is not desirable, and has little chance of winning in November.
I would much prefer Romney/West.
Yes, I also can not figure out why intelligent (supposedly) people get morbidly obese, chain smoke, and indulge in illegal substances. It shows lack of discipline and ignoring long term consequences.
Instead they want to call him the same names that liberals call him and talk about how fat he is. They are no better than the freaks at DU. They don't have the vocabulary or intelligence to expand a conversation or debate, they just call names. It is pathetic, they are acting like 6th grade girls.
Indeed. I suspect most of them are just bitter Steve L-O-N-E-G-A-N supporters who can't get over the fact the "RINO" Christie beat their conservative icon, so trash him when he does their bidding and fights for conservative values.
Ideally they'd rather have the NJ union thugs back in power than a guy who agrees with them 80% of the time. Christie isn't a perfect conservative by any means but he is 1) The most conservative governor NJ has had in decades and 2) One of the most gutsy Republican governors in America right now.
Since he got elected, their tactic has been to scream "RINO!!!" at him regardless of what he does, and they've been insisting since he won the GOP nomination that he's an evil closet liberal and no different than a Democrat. The problem is that he far exceeded expectations and has governed much more conservatively than people expected (even Rush Limbaugh is a huge fan of Christie now!), so now they just have to flat out lie and make up stories about him being "pro-abortion" and "pro-gay marriage", so he'll fit the "RINO" stereotype better.
At first I gave them the benefit of the doubt and figured some Christie bashers were just plain ignorant and didn't realize he publicly professed to be a socially conservative devout Catholic, but after he cut off funding for planned parenthood in NJ and vetoed the legislature's attempts to foist gay marriage on the state, the Christie haters here kept on screaming "socially liberal RINO!!" at him on every thread. Pretty much they'll keep smearing these lies regardless of his record. At this point their tactics are no different than I were to falsely accuse Rick Perry of being "anti-Israel" on every Perry thread because I don't like the guy.
I've noticed they really don't like being drawn into a conservation about their "socially liberal RINO" premise, because they can't back up their smears with evidence, so you're right, they'll change topics and start grasping at straws, talking about other issues that have nothing to do with social policies, make fun of his weight (just like liberals do), and just keep repeating endlessly that he's a RINO and anyone who disagrees is a RINO too and loves liberals. Occasionally they'll bring up a legitimate weak spot on his record, like the fact he endorsed some RINO, and state that it disqualifies him for ever getting conservative support. Of course, when one of their heroes like Sen. John Thune has an even worst record on the issue and has endorsed about a dozen odious RINOs in GOP primaries, they're more than happy to tout him as veep material.
Ideally they want to end debate and get all conservatives to just accept the premise that Chris Christie loves abortion, gay marriage, etc. Sadly, they've fooled alot of conservatives on here into actually believing Christie supports that garbage, so much so that there would need to be a massive PR battle to spread the truth about Christie's actual record and beliefs if he were on the ticket. Right now I think conservative cannibals would do their best to destroy him, ESPECIALLY if he ran with Romney.
It's funny, when I'm on a Santorum thread and defend him, Santorum bashers claim all I care about is social issues, but when I'm on a Christie thread and defend him, the Christie bashers claim I don't care about social issues. Interesting.
As for the rest of FR, if you can't the difference between this...
Republican Judy Baar Topinka at the Gay Pride Parade
and this...
Republican Chris Christie at the NJ Right to Life Rally
... you need your eyes checked. I know what "socially liberal RINOs" are and I don't support them. Chris Christie isn't in that camp.
And New Jersey is where he needs to stay.
That's a good thing. New Jersey is right where Christie belongs, and I hope he wins reelection.
“No doubt that Team Romney is looking at Christie very closely.”
Ugh.
