The Department Of Homeland Security Is Buying 450 Million New Bullets

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and its Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) office is getting an "indefinite delivery" of an "indefinite quantity" of .40 caliber ammunition from defense contractor ATK.
U.S. agents will receive a maximum of 450 million rounds over five years, according to a press release on the deal.
The high performance HST bullets are designed for law enforcement and ATK says they offer "optimum penetration for terminal performance."
This refers to the the bullet's hollow-point tip that passes through barriers and expands for a bigger impact without the rest of the bullet getting warped out of shape: "this bullet holds its jacket in the toughest conditions."

“We’ve also learned that the Department has an open bid for a stockpile of rifle ammo. Listed on the federal business opportunities network, they’re looking for up to 175 million rounds of .223 caliber ammo to be exact. The .223 is almost exactly the same round used by NATO forces, the 5.56 x 45mm.
The deadline for earlier this month was extended because the right contractor just hadn’t come along.

A free country should not tolerate its guardians to arm themselves this way when it purposefully disarms its soldiers overseas for the sake of political expediency, all to cement the validity of a madman tyrant, halfrican muslim who hates this country.

And the sweetest part of the deal is that it won’t cost the government a cent because they will charge the family for the bullet used.
Let’s put 450 million bullets in perspective…
In typical 50 round packaging this quantity by volume would fill about 9,500 ten wheel dump trucks, the large 15 cubic yard dump trucks you would typically see on a construction site.
If all the bullets were shipped in one delivery the line of dump trucks, patiently waiting bumper to bumper at the gate, would stretch about 52 miles.
Don’t worry...
Knowing TSA, they probably forgot to order the casings, propellant, and primers.

Damn straight. If Obama stays ONE MINUTE past his prescribed term of office his authority ends. Any and all that follow him and their families lose some serious legal protections at that point. And just to put that amount in perspective, the only stat I could find is that in the month December 2009 over a billion rounds were sold in the U.S. I’m guessing guessing then that Americans normally buy at least 450M per month, or every couple of months when it’s slow, which it sure ain’t been since Fool Sucka has been in office.
Considering most of these will go to sub guns for spray and pray this really isn’t alot of bullets.

Army “employees” do not usually qualify with weapons. Soldiers do but the civilian employees and contractors usually do not. How many DHSers are weapons carriers?
In 22 years in the Army Reserve the only time the Army ever issued me live ammo other than at a range (where handgun qualification consisted of a mere 50 rounds) was when I was on duty guarding ammunition bunkers. Later as an Army contractor I was never issued any weapon or ammunition.
As a DOD and a Department of the Air Force employee in the Pentagon I never touched a weapon.
DHS purchases of this scale while the Army is being cut and suffering ammunition shortages does merit a raised eyebrow.
correct me if I’m wrong but I thought our military used only “ball” rounds not hollow point?
