Obama Mangles U.S., World History In Energy Speech
Talking Points Memo ^ | 03/15/12 | Benjy Sarlin

Posted on 03/15/2012 2:46:57 PM PDT by nhwingut

President Obama got a laugh out of a Maryland audience on Thursday when he mocked the Republican Party in a speech, comparing their skepticism of alternative energy to the “Flat Earth Society” in Christopher Columbus’ day and President Rutherford B. Hayes’ apparent dismissal of the telephone. But while Obama thinks the GOP is in need of a science lesson, he may need to bone up on history himself.

In mocking the GOP, Obama cited an anecdote about Hayes in which, upon using the telephone for the first time, he said, “It’s a great invention, but who would ever want to use one?”

“That’s why he’s not on Mount Rushmore,” Obama said. “He’s explaining why we can’t do something instead of why we can do something.”

The personal computer, which has had as much or more impact on the world as the airplane, was also developed privately.

I am not sure that scenario could happen today. You would be required to partner with the government somehow. And, to sell the product you would need a blizzard of licenses and bureaucratic approvals of all sorts. It would be crazy.

I do not really know if it was the specific intent of government to stifle private ingenuity and invention, but they have done so.

When the government gets out of the way with all forms of intrusions, taxes, licenses, etceteras, entrapanutship thrives. The more government interference in the private sector, the less that this sector will produce.

Atlas does indeed shrug.

Leftists and children cannot comprehend this. As a result of whatever childhood trauma or indoctrination they endured, they believe that even if you take all the money from a guy who works, invents, and produces, he will still continue to work, invent, and produce. The don't understand that eventually the money will stop. It is like trying to explain basic life skills to children.

The One problem with Obama is that his speech writers and advisors are all MORE STOO-PID than he is.

'In 1492 when Columbus sailed the ocean blue' .. all Educated people KNEW the Earth was %#$&ing round, Barry -- you friggen moron!

And fyi brainiac, 'the argument against Columbus' was with his numbers, not his idea. As they say, 'He cooked his books' as to the time it would take to sail to Asia by going West. And 'they' were right as ole Chris didn't even make it half way - distance wise - now did he.

And mr 'science' you're also wrong about President Hayes. Big surprise, not. You haven't been correct about anything since you and Bigfoot started squatting in the White Hut so why start now.

btw, After you get your butt kicked in November do everyone a favor and release ALL your HS and ALL three of your College Transcripts; Occidental, Columbia and 'Haaaaavad' Law School. We could use another good laugh.

Oh and for some real snix a PET Scan of your brain -- it'll show the kiddies the dangers of drug use and permanent damage it WILL DO.

So many errors in such a small span of time. It’s a good metaphor for Barry & his presidency.

Rurherford B. Hayes had a telephone installed in the White House. But since he was a Republican he can be ridiculed.

The article at American Thinker links over to http://hlrecord.org/?p=11263

In that letter, it states that Soetero would become the second Harvard Law School graduate - AFTER Rutherford B. Hayes - to be elected POTUS.

Interesting that he chose to take a jab at President Hayes in his speech, since Hayes was the FIRST Harvard grad to become President.

From a Wikipedia entry (I know, I know, Wiki...but it’s accurate in this instance):

“...Wounded five times, most seriously at the Battle of South Mountain, he earned a reputation for bravery in combat and was promoted to the rank of major general...”

See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rutherford_B._Hayes

Hayes was also the Governor of Ohio, three times.

Once again...Barry takes a shot at a far better and far braver man than he’ll EVER be.

He is, at the end of the day...a very, very small man, indeed.

Good points! And yes, they really don’t understand that they’re doing that age-old thing, killing the goose that laid the golden egg.

He was a empty seat in college. He never wrote, did or say anything that would prove he is the smartest person in the room.
But his race has a large part of where he is today. Cant say anything negative about the Chosen one or a person might have the Southern Poverty Law Center put you on a list.
What a country where a half breed moron can rise to the most powerful country in the world and drive it into ruin while giggling like the retard he really is.

Mr. Intelligence Himself, Obamalamadingdong, couldn’t even pronounce Rutherford correctly, he said RUTH-erford, Ruth, like Baby Ruth candy, what a total ass.

Such an embarrassment, let alone the destruction he is perpetrating upon us all.
