A US soldier in Afghanistan has killed at least 16 civilians and wounded five after entering their homes in Kandahar province, senior local officials say.

He left his military base in the early hours of the morning and opened fire in at least two homes; women and children were among the dead.

Nato said it was investigating the "deeply regrettable incident".

“Every soldier there must be wondering why and if they may soon die for no reason.”

Speaking of Reason, I doubt we will ever be allowed to know what that soldier’s reason was for doing what “he” (one of the few things the bbc story makes clear) did.

I do not rule out any possibility.

All right. Good for him.

Not too good for any hero.
There were sleeping women and children killed at 3am in their own homes. And now they might hate us even more for our freedoms.

You ever notice when lots of civilians are killed by airstrikes no one ever gets prosecuted?

Your POTUS has set policies that get our troops murdered and he apologizes to the enemy.

Your POTUS cares not one damn bit for our troops, or for you for that matter.

He is setting the stage for millions of people to die.

And I keep asking myself, “Just what is it WE OWE the Afghanistanicans?”

NOT ONE THING.

You don’t like that a soldier just can’t take the BS anymore?

Then march on the White Hut and DEMAND they all be brought home.

NOW.

“I guess being surrounded by a people who want you dead simply made him snap.”

That, and maybe the apology to Karzai after seven of our troops were killed after the Koran burnings.

You'll never hear a peep of criticism from me over an episode like where a U.S. soldier does something like what has apparently been done here.

From my profile page, regarding an incident in which several U.S. soldiers allegedly killed an "unarmed civilian" in Iraq a few years ago:

"The fact of the matter is that war changes men's natures. The barbarities of war are seldom committed by abnormal men. The tragedy of war is that these horrors are committed by normal men in abnormal situations; situations in which the ebb and flow of everyday life have departed and have been replaced by a constant round of fear and anger, blood and death. Soldiers at war are not to be judged by civilian rules, even though they commit acts which calmly viewed afterwards could only be seen as un-Christian and brutal . . . [W]e can not hope to judge such matters unless we ourselves have been submitted to the same pressures, the same provocations, as these men, whose actions are on trial." --- Major J.F. Thomas (Jack Thompson), Breaker Morant

The next time we send U.S. soldiers overseas for a decades-long military campaign, let Sasha and Malia Obama land on the first helicopter ... and let Barbara and Jenna Bush pilot the damn thing.

Until there is proof that an ACTUAL US soldier committed this act, and he is arrested, I will withhold any condemnation of our troops and the military.

As of now I do not believe a US soldier murdered these civilians.

Anyone out there remember this young man?

He is getting close to that five year mark in the Leavenworth USDB.

I have NEVER STOPPED my efforts to help in his release.

I NEVER WILL.

our own Commander-in-Chief is not behind our troops

And therein lies the biggest problem.

I now think the surge of 30,000 troops to Afghanistan served a three-fold purpose:

1. It bleeds out our patriotic troops, money, and ammunition.

2. It provides an opportunity for the Islamist media to use our troops to inflame the Islamists and provide an ultimate excuse for both Pakistan and Afghanistan to reverse their alliance with the US (based on Rumsfeld’s cooperate-or-become-a-glass-parking-lot ultimatum) and instead go full sharia - just like all the other ME countries the Obama regime has supported in their move from being non-sharia US allies to becoming Muslim Brotherhood/Salafist countries who are instituting sharia including annihilation of “infidels” such as Christians. The Egyptian ambassador said on Arab TV that Obama had privately told him (presumably in January of 2010) that he was and still is a Muslim who supports the Muslim agenda. The Muslim agenda - which all branches of Islam agree on - is the destruction of the US and Israel and the institution of worldwide sharia.

3. It ensures that we don’t have enough troops to defend the homeland when the doo-doo hits the fan here - whether that is by black riots pushed by the union heads, by a Hezbollah/Hamas coup following an Iranian EMP attack, by riots following another run on the bank to collapse capitalism and the world economy, or by any other scenario. Obama has said different things that suggest he believes nobody can get him out of office. Which suggests to me that he intends there not to be a 2012 election if it looks like he won’t win it.

There is a reason that Bush took on the fight in Iraq. The terrorists went to Iraq to fight us there because that’s where we were, and the choice of Iraq was a much better place than Afghanistan because both the politics of the region, the anger with Saddam Hussein and his atrocities, and the geographic lay of the land made it POSSIBLE to win the battle there. Nobody has ever won in Afghanistan, and we’re finding out all the reasons why.

When Obama took over we were winning in Iraq after proving the hard way (in blood, sweat, and tears) to the Iraqi people that they had to give up the sectarian and/or terrorist stuff and get on board with a western model where justice was sect-blind and basically secular. The terrorists were coming to us there and being defeated. What Obama did from the outset was tell the terrorists and Iran when we’d be leaving there and then moving our troops instead to the impossible scenario of Afghanistan (where Obama could accomplish the 3 objectives I stated in my last post on this thread). When Obama took over we had allies in the War on Terror in Kenya, Libya, Egypt, Iraq, Afghanistan, and Pakistan (among others). Every one of those have now been ceded to the Islamists.

The one country whose resistance Obama did NOT support was Iran. But then, they are already an Islamist sharia state that persecutes “infidels” such as Christians, and the regime was already well on its way to developing a nuclear weapon that would work great for getting the doo-doo to hit the fan in America so that the communist-Islamist coup could finally take place here (with no soldiers here to protect the Homeland).

Obama is owned by George Soros, who has publicly stated that he hopes the US loses the “war on terror” because that would weaken both America and capitalism - which Soros, who seriously believes he is God, has said are the 2 great evils he has to defeat. What’s going on right now is methodical, deliberate, and EVIL. The 2 enemies of the United States (which has always been built on a Judeo-Christian worldview) are joining forces to bring us down.

Over a couple of thousand years, I read several armies swept through Afghanistan in an attempt to conquer it.

All failed to do so. Even the good ol USA.

It's time to piyai on outta there.

This country has forgotten how to win a war since WWII. In order to win a war you have to kill enough people including civilians and destroy enough property until the other side surrenders. Using the military as a police force or in nation building is a failed policy from the beginning.

If this administration doesn't have the will to do what it takes to win then pull our guys out of Afghanistan.

There was a curious fact in one of the articles I read about this. The reporters were shown bodies from one house (the one where 10 people were supposedly killed) and noticed that a number of the bodies were badly burned and others had charring on them. Nobody seems to have claimed that the supposed soldier had a grenade or used explosives, but on the other hand, he certainly couldn’t have gotten that effect with a gun. So what really happened there?

It’s always possible that one of our guys cracked up and couldn’t take it any more, or it’s possible that it was a Muslim US soldier or a soldier involved with a woman from one of these families. But I think it’s also possible that this was done by another group (the Taliban, for example) and blamed on US soldiers, or even that it was staged.

I want more facts.
