While billionaire casino mogul Sheldon Adelson may have rescued Newt Gingrichs campaign in its early days, today, he may have just buried it.
Bloomberg News reports that Adelson, who has donated $11 million to Gingrichs Super PAC, does not plan to send any more money Gingrichs way. Bloomberg is citing an anonymous source familiar with their deliberations, though an Adelson spokesman declined to comment.
The move seems to be weeks in the making. After poor showings by Gingrich in the last several races and the re-resurgence of Rick Santorum, the former House speaker has once again been pushed to the back of the Republican field. And Adelson may be shifting his focus. According to CNN, Adelson met with Mitt Romney in Nevada last week and assured Romney that he will be behind him 100 percent should he become the nominee.
What may be more alarming though is as money seems to be flooding out of the Gingrich camp, it appears to be heading into to Santorums, no doubt helped by his three-state sweep Tuesday.

Newt Gingrich was just days away from the Jan. 31 Florida Republican presidential primary when he told reporters that his campaign was down to its last $600,000.
Five losing contests later, Gingrich and Winning Our Future, an outside political action committee supporting him, are almost silent on television airwaves, offering free water and coffee at events, and revamping a fundraising strategy based largely on the support of a single wealthy backer, Sheldon Adelson, and the Las Vegas casino owners family.--Gingrich Group Looks for New Money as Big Donor Checks Stop
Fair weather friend?
Did he support Newt before or after South Carolina?
Looks as if he just wants to back a winner - with strings attached.
Perhaps Newt explained that he wasn’t for sale.
It’s likely, unfortunately, that polls indicate that Newt cannot make sufficient headway.
Why does it say that it is more alarming that the money is going to the Santorum campaign? More alarming than what, I wonder? I was relieved that it wasn’t going to Romney, so I felt that this was less alarming.
what i find troubling is that the federal government is so powerful that candidates can attract that kind of money. Constitutional government would not be powerful enough to warrent that much financial risk.
Are conservatives going to allow the only candidate capable of beating obama and turning this country around for lack of money? If Newt has to step down, the country is done for. Mr. Rogers can’t beat romney and he certainly can’t beat obama. Then if by some miracle, he should become president, he has no clue about how to turn things around. A Senator? What does he know about anything? Senators are notoriously stupid. I can’t believe that the Tea Party has allowed this to happen. They must be extremely ill informed. For God’s sake send the man some money. (yes, I did)
no use throwing good money after bad
I think Adelson’s pretty upfront about his expectations: no legalization of internet gambling. Trump, too. Both will support whoever can deliver that.
SOMEONE has to represent the gambling, prostitution and drug industry.
Why do Voters support candidates?
Answer: because of their philosphy, policies and America.
Why do the uber-rich support candidates?
Answer: Special interest in legislation and access.
What I find troubling is that this guy already gave Newt 11 million dollars—and that he may have been prepared to give him more if things had gone differently.
That’s just wrong..........
newt not for sell...you made a funny
You are so right. Newt is the brightest candidate and the most conservative man running. I sent him money too.
He will take Georgia, NC, Texas with the help of Perry and pick up in the polls on super tues.
Once Mr Rogers is vetted (he has had a free pass from the media and super pacs) he will go down so fast it will make his head spin.
This “Mr. Rogers” line is already getting old. Try saying the man’s name, Santorum, much less demeaning to him and those referring to him.
I do believe the American voters are now deciding this, you just happen to not agree with them. Me, I think, we have a better chance of getting obummer out of office now than 10 days ago..
Looks like the Grinch’s 15 minutes of fame is coming to an end.
Perhaps this is God's will that this once great nation fails. Since it is no longer even a shred of it's former greatness and self.
America is almost too far gone to save, it seems. Moral decay and decadence is rapidly becoming the norm. Nothing seems to shock the few these days. I hope we can turn it around, but if it is Gods will to tear it down so it can be rebuilt from the ashes again, then so be it. It may also be tied into a much greater and prophetic plan for the entire World. Trial and Tribulation may be close at hand after all.
I find this to be good news. Newt or Santorum needs to step aside they are splitting the vote which means we get Romney. Personally I would very happy to see Santorum win. Newt isn’t much of a conservative.
