Ron Paul appears more principled

Oh, it's "principles" you want? Hitler, Stalin, Mao were principled. Shoot, Hussein is principled. On the other hand, I don't think Ron Paul is principled. I think he is simply a scary, crazy, anti-Semite.

—Newt’s got some history of attacking conservatives, including Ronald Reagan.—

And this is why Newt was not my first choice. That said, your argument sounds like one made in 2008: “Sarah’s not qualified to be president.” To which I responded: “Compared to whom? Obama? Don’t make me laugh.”

Newt was not my first choice. I’m not even a big fan. But compared to who he’s running against, he is really the only* choice for a conservative.

*The only current viable republican candidates are Newt and Romney.

Good catches. Also, you could pull Reagan's pro-FDR comments and make the same kind of case. People evolve. Heck, I, er, voted for Carter :(

We all know Newt isn't perfect. We also know that of those in the race, he's the ONLY one with the ability to stand up to Obama.

No Drudge acts a news media and is supposed to be fair with his articles.
Jim here has come out for Newt and has banned some for being Romney bots or in other words the stupid within the party just like he does with those who think republicans should endorse homosexuality.

Big difference and no I am not going on Drudge, I’;ve had it with his bias.

This election sure has showed us who the establishment types are and the elitist snotty nosed beltway north east big tent types are.

We’re fighting to take on the establishment, they are fighting to keep their power, their money and their corruption, we’re fighting for America

And what will Newt have? Great debating skills. And part of the GOP supporting him

and what will Mitt have? Well, maybe 22% of the GOP supporting him. the nonconservative part.

I have decided I will never vote for Mitt. never. I support the candidate Pelosi fears.

I will go Galt and to the mattresses to survive the marxists before I continue accepting our nation's liberties to be slowly boiled to death by "establishment" people like silver spoon bureacrats who spend decades being groomed for the presidency by Wall Street and in this case, by a secretive cabal bound by a weird faith.

What kind of a LEADER do you want? The kid who has been on the team the longest as the team captain because he "deserves" it and "hope" the team wins?

Like Mark Levin said, you want a businessman for President in these perilous times? Herbert Hoover was a businessman.

Up the establishment.

BS dude. Gingrich isn’t liked by the establishment because he says what’s on his mind and he identifies with the palpable anger out there. It has NOTHING to do with his so-called attacks. Take off your blinders or GTFOOH.

—While I’d pick Newt any day of the week and twice on Sunday over mitt, Newt is a bottom tier choice.—

That sums it up for me as well.

If I thought that who becomes the president in 2013 really mattered I’d be very, very distraught over this election.

Fortunately, I’ve gotten past the pain of realizing where we are as a nation, and a planet, and have already started (three years ago) doing what I can to reduce the risk of bad outcomes for me and mine, which is all a man can really do. It is also what a man is responsible to do.

The Sirenity prayer applies to this year’s election cycle more than any other in my lifetime (I’m 58)

God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.

Living one day at a time;
Enjoying one moment at a time;
Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;
Taking, as He did, this sinful world
as it is, not as I would have it;
Trusting that He will make all things right
if I surrender to His Will;
That I may be reasonably happy in this life
and supremely happy with Him
Forever in the next.
Amen.

Glad this thread gets the sidebar; it’s long overdue.

I see that Team Romney was quick to come at this from all angles on this thread; very quick and very constant with their talking points, too. They are truly organized, even at FR. They think we’re stupid; I am please to see that folks like you were quick to respond.

Matt Drudge has become what he always claimed to despise: an elitist media whore shilling for one candidate and propagandizing against another.

To actually have Romney campaign staff running the Drudge Website like he does in UNCONSCIENABLE! It is utterly reprehensible!

Shame on you, Matt Drudge, shame on all of you elitist media whores!

No, I don’t want Romney.

I simply can’t wrap my mind around not wanting Romney and viewing Gingrich as an alternative to Romney when they are essentially the SAME.

Both been against Reagan. For a health care mandate. For cap and trade. Downplaying social issues. Superhuman ambition to be President who have been on every side of every issue.

The other thing to consider is that they have polling data that says that.

Though I think Mitt is the weaker canidate. After all the bail outs, you want to run a guy who was responsible for some of the damage? Not smart on the GOP side.

“Jim here has come out for Newt and has banned some for being Romney bots or in other words the stupid within the party just like he does with those who think republicans should endorse homosexuality.”

And he could possibly have a field day with zotting plenty of idiots on this thread alone. We sem to have plenty of ‘stupid’ still running around FR despite his best efforts.

Considering Newt or Mitt WILL be the guy we get to vote for with a shot at beating obama, and since one of those has more Dem support than conservative, I see little intelligence in continuing to trash the one remaining that embraces many of the things we believe in.

I agree with everything you say. At the same time, it doesn’t change the stats on Drudge’s site about the one-sidedness against Newt. It’s so obvious, that it’s starting to look like a Romney Campaign Website.

For the record, I did not post this in breaking news. I posted my observation in Vanity/My opinion, Conservatism, and politic/elections. Someone else moved it.

Also for the record, I have been critical of Newt as well and have been holding out hope Santorum would be the answer...but the more I see the establishment go after Newt the more it makes me want to (hold my nose and) support him.

The choice seems to be coming down to Romney or Newt...not Newt and perfection. At this point you have to pick one.

Starting yesterday we no longer go to Drudge. He has been our homepage since we found out about him. No telling how many hits our whole family has given his page.
We can glance through Free Republic Breaking News much quicker, without all the Hollywood garbage we have absolutely no interest in.
Thank you Jim for Free Republic!

Jim,

Please do not ban elhombrelibre for merely stating an opinion. Please!

I disagree with where he is going with that post, quite strongly, actually, but I hope we do allow a reasonable (keyword there) exchange of conflicting viewpoints here to at least SOME degree.

And, frankly, without dissenting opinions, this place would become so boring there would be no reason to come here.

Yup - Newt is next in line to be taken down.

Drudge belittled Bachmann, Cain, and Perry mercilessly - admittedly, he was given plenty of ammunition - but honestly, can anyone remember, or better yet, link to any negative meme on Romney that was headlined for days, or even hours? Story lines that sprouted columns of links like mushrooms after the rain?

We know that the lack of negative press on Romney is NOT due to a similar lack of ammunition. Heck, they ALL have negatives, they are politicians for pity’s sake, but apparently, it is VERY important to communicate some candidates negatives to the masses, while other candidates negatives... well, they are really not that important you know...

Shakes head. Heaven forbid that the American people should be able to hear ALL the facts on ALL the candidates and decide for themselves....

No. The poor dears, we,(TheStateRunMedia) have to show them the way, otherwise they might actually choose someone that we,(ThePoliticalRulingClass) don’t approve of.

And we,(OurBetters) simply cannot allow that.

May God grant us strength, wisdom and courage.
Tatt

I didn’t write a word about why Newt is or is not liked by the Republican establishment. I will say again that both Newt and Romney have been inconsistent supporters of conservatism, with Romney being worse than Newt. My main point is that they’re both better than Obama and neither of them is faithfully in sync with most of us. If speaking honestly about the need to keep them both honest to our principles is unacceptable, there is nothing I can do about it. I won’t ignore either one of them when they come up short or curry favor with the MSM or the Left.
