Anne Coulter pal Matt Drudge has declared all out war on the Gingrich campaign. As of 7am Eastern time he has 9 negative mentions about Newt (none on Romney):

The only thing I can find that gave him ‘front runner’ cred was the media claiming it, not from anything he ever did. Multiple runs for office and a failed governorship do not a true frontrunner make.

Repeat the lie until it becomes truth - that’s why/how he got to be front runner IMO.

While it's disappointing that Drudge is running all these anti-Newt articles, I don't believe that starting false rumors is a reasonable response. Finding a better source of news does sound like a reasonable response.

Their behavior simply can't be merely their freely given opinion. It just doesn't add up. If you have a better explanation, I'd like to hear it. And I'm not interested in just ignoring them.

Maybe, but i think there was more to it than that. To his credit he did work hard to get backing among key Republicans and had built a strong organization (in part thanks to having run before but also from raising a heck of a lot of money). He was and is obviously the establishment choice and that alone is usually enough to make someone a frontrunner. Couple that with his seemingly endless funds and he was always going to be tough to beat.

Maybe. His nomination, though, much less election, is anything but a done deal. Almost any warm body opposed to Romney will run strong. But I agree that pressure must exist, and that’s why I hope a VP selection like Allen West would be in the cards.

I can't give Drudge a pass on this. He's obviously in the tank and giving the finger to any pretense of fairness.

I have no more doubts about his objectives.

I've relied on Drudge -- a lot -- over the years. But I have had my skepticisms. At the risk of being flamed I will say, if Drudge had gone after Romney's Mormonism the way he habitually goes after Scientologists, Romney wouldn't be where he is now.

Perhaps there is a homosexual agenda in Drudge's antipathies. I don't know. But I see an anti-Gingrich bomb-thrower and I can't rely on Drudge anymore.

Almost all of the anti-Newt Gingrich material hitting the media is coming from conservative institutions: National Review, The New York Sun, and the Washington Times. Just look at the Drudge Report from last night and early this morning
