Phil Sloan’s guitar work made him a trusted session guitarist with the Wrecking Crew, where he joined Hal Blaine, Tommy Tedesco, Joe Osborn and Larry Knechtel. Sloan wrote a guitar introduction for a John Phillips song titled “California Dreaming” which was to be recorded by his group, the Mamas & the Papas. Sloan’s little D minor riff made it into the recording, which made him a regular part of the group’s recording sessions. It sets the mood for one of the most perfect songs of the Sixties, even if Phil Sloan didn’t actually write it. It’s four magnificent bars that just can’t be topped.

My tomatoes were nothing to brag about. My coal slag/clay infested soil just doesn’t do well and all the rain last Spring and then a drought really made my garden pittiful other than the peppers. I still had fruit 2 weeks after the first frost. I spent weeks dehydrating them and making Chilli powder to send out at Christmas with Pear butter as gifts.

My Pastor’s son-in-law has gone through three quarts of the red Savinas I canned. I just use a few in chilli and to make hot sauce, but he eats them on everything! I’m almost out, so I’m switching him over to Habaneros for the next jar! Those oughta last him til Spring - they are mega hot. Next year if the good Lord allows, I’ll have him a jar of Trinidad Scorpians and those should cure him of his taste for peppers, lol.

Hi Ma! My rare pleasure these days.

My umbrella? Uhhh.....some research is needed in that subject. LOL!

My sons. One is back in Miami (with the grand baby), the 2nd is probably
moving to Chicago (has a job offer that he's considering) and the third is filming a Nike commercial (busy, busy). All in good health thank God. And your family Ma? January is always hard. I hope all is good. {{MA}}

I can’t complain after hearing about everyone else’s trouble.

A good measurement of a song’s worth is just how many artists record it. Phil Sloan and Steve Barri’s song started out as a hit for the Turtles.

The Turtles: “You Baby”

Lou Adler knew he had a great tune from his two star song writers, and he spread it around the Dunhill label. This is a less frenetic approach.

The Grass Roots: “You Baby”

Even the Mamas & the Papas tried it, and they add an even more laid back feel to it.
