Live thread to cover today's GOP caucus. News, predictions, opinions, totals, and the like.
Will be heading out about 4 pm or so to get our site ready and do a final review with the precinct chairs. I expect it to be bigger than 2008 with very heavy turnout and we are preparing for that.
We are also ready for disruptions. They simply won't be tolerated. The state party sent us a memo saying if there's any trouble call the cops immediately. Anyone trying to cause problems is going to get a rude awakening.
My predictions of the outcome are a narrow field with about a 10 point spread for the top five with Bachmann far behind in single digits:
Santorum - 24 Romney - 22 Paul - 20 Perry - 17 Gingrich - 14 Bachmann - 4 The Rest - 1
Think things are still in flux and many won't decide till right to the wire, so I'm not terribly confident of any predictions.
Thanks, Rita
Which network just called it for Santorum??
Looks like Santorum is a good economist!
Ok. Lets say Newt got 100,000 votes which represent 13%
You split that 100,000 in half for your sex split and it’s still 13% Men and 13% women.
Excellent. I hope he carpet bombs Romney with exposes' about his true record. He won't even need to go negative. Just tell the documented facts. That oughta do it.
I’m using my force powers.
You could be square corner correct. Maybe backers will back and family will encourage a run at South Carolina. I thought very much he would hang for South Carolina for sure, so something was up and a threshold must have been set for Iowa, by maybe the backers. I have no idea. He is just so “up” and energetic that when he is subdued, something is seriously up. I hope you’re right and he two-steps all over South Carolina. It just didn’t sound like it.
Santorum gave the speech of the season tonight. It blew Mitt’s stump speech out of the park.
Pray for America
Watch out Romney!
Constitutional Law is based on what the Constitution says. Not on what you wish it says or your own private interpretation of what it says.
The media knives are already out and aimed towards Santorum.
They’re going to savage him because he hates the idea of killing babies.
It’s ALWAYS about abortion with these people.
I hope that you and BigBob are right. Perry needs to stay.
Oh my gosh! How sweet is that!!
At any rate, whether or not the slim lead flips to Romney or stays with Santorum, Santorum is the big winner tonight and has stolen the spotlight from Romney - who felt he was finally about to get it shined on him for a change.
$113 per vote against $1.65.... he like me probably buys the Mean Green Cleaner at the Dollar Store... right on! Wonder which candidate even relates....???
Well, he’s earned my endorsement after tonight.
I am still going to write in Cain because I’ll be damned if thug Axelrod gets to pick my candidate for me.
Also odd that he just gave a canned stump speech filled with rhetoric.
In fact, Megan Kelly just said that she heard Romney speak earlier today, and she said it was nearly WORD for WORD the SAME SPEECH he gave earlier today.
How odd and rather disrespectful to all those people in that room who have hung around there for hours waiting for him to appear.
Santorum/Rubio 2012! I would LOVE THAT...but think that Rubio has rejected a run for the WH and a VP position, right?
Michele Bachmann said she's soldiering on, giving no indication that she would bail on her Republican presidential campaign after a last-place showing in the contested Iowa caucuses, while Rick Perry, who finished just ahead of her in fifth, said he's going back to Texas to "determine whether there is a path forward."Or should I say "delusion of the evening.""I believe I am the best conservative who can and who will beat Barack Obama in 2012," Bachmann told supporters late Tuesday night following projections that she would be last in the six-way contest. Jon Huntsman decided not to compete in Iowa.
