With all the political posturing in Congress over the Keystone XL tar-sands oil pipeline, its easy to lose sight of the real issue: This pipeline is dangerous, unnecessary, and would cost the American people far more than we can afford. What were watching unfold in Washington, DC, is more than just a high-stakes political power play its a scam undertaken by Big Oils congressional puppets on the orders of oil companies that have billions of dollars at stake.
The politicians pushing the pipeline are (how can I put this politely?) lying to the American people and pandering for dirty oil money. What do we really stand to gain if this thing is rammed down our throats? Higher gas prices, more air pollution, the threat of poisoned water, and enough carbon pollution to make stopping climate disruption next to impossible but few of the jobs and none of the huge profits that Big Oil would reap.
Exaggerated job numbers play well to public concern about unemployment and the economy, but they are a hollow promise. The numbers from TransCanada the company behind the pipeline have already been discredited as fuzzy math for using tricks like double counting and incidental employment for dancers, choreographers, and speech therapists. Heres some non-fuzzy math: The pipeline would raise gas prices across the Midwest hurting both consumers and businesses. Ironically, the pipeline could actually destroy more jobs than it generates.

Yeah, unnecessary. We don’t need any energy.
freakin’ dolts. I wonder how much energy they use printing their rag.
Sierra Club Executive Director
I have never meet a pipeline that told the truth
Would this redwood deck owning twit care to explain how that would happen?
Sierra Club and other “green” whacko demagogues are incompetent to discuss any economic issue, ever.
They sound rather funny when they try, though....
Or it might be funny if they were not such a persistent drag on our economic life.
The San Francisco Chronicle I should have known. What a crock. Who believes this stuff?
A list of oil cliches in search of a thought. More supply will raise prices according to this commielib.
Merry Christmas
I have never met an envirowhacko official who tells the truth
“Michael Brune, Sierra Club Executive Director”
Anything he’s against, I’m for.
Thanks SmithL.
Michael Brune, Sierra Club Executive Director, shilling in the San Francisco Chronicle — talk about unnecessary things, there’s four.
Another one is no big deal.
AND more jobs for lap dancers!
What sane person could be against this now?
Just another LIberal Socialist promoting his propaganda and anti American viewpoints.
Tell him to go live in a cave and walk to work. Please don’t allow him to use a gun.
Well, I think he would certainly admit that if China gets this oil, that will decrease pollution, decrease carbon released to the atmosphere, lower gas and oil prices in the US, and increase employment in the US, and bankrupt all of BIG OIL in the US. /s Just in case.
He’d be still rowing a boat up and down San Franscisco Bay and burning dried seaweed for heat if wasn’t for pipelines providing fuel and natural gas for the area. Stick it Sierra Club.
Ping.
Wonder what pipelines the Sierra Club has supported?
He has the anti-capitalist buzz words down pat.
Ca sierra clubbers are the biggest bunch of jerks on the planet.
OK, .... we won’t sell any oil or fossil fuels to Kal-E-Freak-A-Fornia.
The doctor said to the constipated man, ‘You’ll only need one of these. I doubt you’ll have to call me in the morning.’
