Republican Congressman Connie Mack changed his mind late last month about challenging longtime Democratic Senator Bill Nelson in 2012, and now he finds himself with a modest edge over the incumbent in the first Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Floridas U.S. Senate race.
The latest statewide telephone survey of Likely Voters in the state shows Mack with 43% to Nelsons 39%.

Noticed a graph in today’s Venice Herald-Tribune (fish wrap) that showed a steady decline in unemployment in the region since Scott became governor. The lousy NYT-owned paper will never acknowledge it or give Scott any credit for it because they threw all of their weight behind Sink, the former Bank of America executive, during the election and they have been working against Scott ever since,
Nelson would have never gone along for the ride on the space shuttle Columbia if he hadn’t been a congressman at the time.
Nelson has to go. What a loser, on the wrong side of every issue plus voted FOR John Bryson(Natural Resource Defence Council) as Sec. of Commerce.
It was the NRDC that sued the NAVY in a failed attempt to prevent the NAVY from using SONAR.
That pretty much seems to me like a treasonus thing to do.
Just saying.
I personally do not see Hasner as a real conservative like Mike McCalister. So far, Mike is doing well and when more folks really check out Hasner they turn to Mike.
Scott has a low approval rating; however, there was one poll I read recently where they asked voters if the 2010 election were today, who would you vote for? Scott or Sink. And it would still be a dead-heat. A clear sign that voters dont think Sink would be doing a better of a job.
A lot of people dont like Scott because he’s been doing exactly what he said he was going to do.
I dont know if any current state-wide Florida politician has over 50% approval right now. Even Rubio had 49% approval last I checked. Florida voters are simply hostile towards the government in general right now. That makes Nelson vulnerable and makes it difficult for Obama to keep the state.
Nelson and the south FL Marxists screamed RACIST when the legislature shortened early voting from two weeks to one and placed some other limits on third party registrations.
Nelson recently got a US Senate committee to request DOJ investigation of voter intimidation . . . etc and may abuse the Voting Rights Act to get what he wants.
The Smarmy Nelson knows the only way he can win will be through massive vote fraud.
Mack penny and name recognition are powerful tools to stop the left. Once again Mack may not be perfect.Unfortunately I have never head of Mike McCalister. I doubt many others have as well. That says a lot right there.
agreed, I went down there a few times for fights and the north east loons have ruined that part of our state.
They ruined their area, move down here and then ruin here.
The area is a cesspit of rude, ignorant people who can’t drive and all think the world evolves around them and that we in FL owe them something because they moved here.
They will keep electing the likes of wassermann because they fall for the mediscare crap the right wants your SS and they see a D after names.
This is good news overall, but Connie Mack IV is an uninspiring candidate. I realize that most Floridians are mostly conservative with the exceptions immigration and environmentalism, but Mack takes it too far. I couldn’t support him in the primary, though if he were the nominee I would force myself to vote for him.
Anyone with the audacity to infer enforcing the borders as akin to “Nazi” policy has no business in any elective office. Not even La Raza Rick called us Nazis.
We need to ‘Crist’ Connie the Lesser.
That means we need a new candidate because Hasner and McCallister et al don’t appear to be cutting it.
Paging Allen West . . . .
Exactly.
8 months to go.
McCalister is fine, though some yellow flags have cropped up; I'm starting to like Craig Miller.
Mack has a name ID advantage. That doesn't mean he'll be the Senate nominee.
We shouldn't expect a lesser-known candidate to rise much in the general consciousness until next summer. Plenty of time to work on grassroots support and build a campaign organization.
We like Mike too!!
Nelson needs a third party spoiler...
I don’t think that would even save him. If the sitting Republican Governor couldn’t split the vote enough to keep Marco Rubio out of the Senate, I don’t see anyone who on the ticket who would save Nelson. Connie Mack just needs to avoid saying anything which could be twisted by the media as offending Cuban Americans in Florida. I always live in fear of a George Allen “macaca” moment.
