Dozens of people gathered at the Sioux Falls Convention Center Saturday night for a straw poll.
The event is being put on by the South Dakota Republican Party.
Voters could pick one of the 8 republican candidates.
Tickets were $25.
Herman Cain won the poll coming in with 35% of the votes. Newt Gingrich 23%. Mitt Romney 20%. Rick Perry 7%. Ron Paul 5%. Michele Bachmann 4%. Rick Santorum 3% and Jon Huntsman 0%.
Romney is at 20%. Cain is the only Republican in the field who’s broken away. The allegations again him have propelled him to a commanding win.
Do you happen to know if either Thune or Noem has endorsed anyone?
No but the elites should sit up and take notice.
They’re too busy admiring each other to notice most Republicans want someone other than Slick Willard to be their standard bearer.
great strategy that “scandal” was, risky though. Cain’s biggest problem was name recognition.... the MSM took care of that.
nothing gets your name out there like a scandal
Thank God!
I think that NH will bury Mitt, once and for all...He all but lives in the state, has a big vacation home there, and is just about a “favorite son.” Yet he’s polling in the low 40s...If he can’t get a majority there, he should be toast. Actually, I think that Cain might just about catch him by the toime of the primary..
He’s looking like a prohibitive favorite... and unless something crashes his juggernaut, he should be well on the way to the nomination.
Four years ago, the media mavens and Democrats all decreed Hillary was the presumptive heir to the nomination and Barack Obama had no chance.
In the end he took it. Republican leaders and the media are infected with the same short-sightedness today.
Ha HA! C’mon, MSM. Pull another scandal out of your “hat,”and watch Herman go up another 8 points!
Cain’s name recognition was already in the high 70s (Gallup) before this scandal hit. He was winning in polls before the story hit as well, and is still winning after.
I would say it has solidified his base, though, and many who were on the fence, have started supporting him.
It has given him a fundraising bump, since Monday, he has brought in roughly twice his normal fundraising.
Bye bye, Mitt. Bye bye Ricky.
I guess the last money bomb didn't raise enough gas money to get the buses to South Dakota.
Wasn’t Ron Paul on the ballot? I thought he always wins the straw polls. Which causes me doubt their value as a predictor of a real election.
If Slick Willard loses New Hampshire, its going to cast doubt on his electability. If he can’t put it away in New England, he’s not going to perform well in the Southern super primaries and he’s not exactly a popular guy in the South.
"Ha HA! Cmon, MSM. Pull another scandal out of your hat,and watch Herman go up another 8 points!"
Why, according to Commie Broadcasting System (CBS) Evening News, Republicans need to make sure that Cain is “thoroughly vetted” if he is to have a hope of defeating Obama.
You know. Obama. The guy who has six social security numbers, hides his college records, and has periods of his life history “missing”.
But we gotta make sure Cain is vetted...
Ron Paul is not a serious candidate. I would never vote for him and he will never get the nomination.
Willie mitty is too busy shooting more Botox to comment...
bet next time we see him he will have lost the gray side burns and ironed out some of the wrinkles...
That is very true. The Perry supporters that keep telling us that he is making a comeback should also start paying attention and stop trashing the other candidates in order to advance his cause.
