Highschoolers horrified at gay male kiss in school play, while officials praise exposure

HARTFORD, October 18, 2011 (LifeSiteNews.coom) - Several students at a Hartford high school expressed horror and left the auditorium when two male members of a city-funded school play shared a passionate kiss onstage on Friday. School officials said they opted against informing parents about the event ahead of time, saying that the students needed exposure to homosexuality, and hailed the “chaotic” reaction as a victory for raising the gay issue.

The kiss occurred during Hartford Public High School’s production of “Zanna, Don’t!,” a play depicting a world in which homosexuality is normative and heterosexuals take up the role of “outcasts.”

The Hartford Courant reported that “screams and loud voices” and sounds of disgust came from the audience during the display of affection, while “dozens” of mostly male students left the auditorium. While some trickled back in, officials had to prevent many from leaving the school building.

School officials had told students that homosexual displays of affection would be featured in the play, and many asked to be excused. One school official cited by The Courant, nursing academy principal David Chambers, said that he had considered sending an opt-out letter to parents before changing his mind. The school reportedly received a number of phone calls from parents following the incident.

The play, available to students free of charge, was a joint effort between Connecticut gay youth group True Colors and a local youth leadership program, and was funded in part by the city of Hartford.

Chambers said that students needed to learn empathy towards homosexuals and exposure to things that would make them uncomfortable. “Our kids are not there yet,” he said. Chambers also suggested that the reaction of disgust was a good sign, indicating a release of students’ inner conflict about homosexuality.

“Even though it’s kind of chaotic, kind of wild and crazy, I see it as very successful,” he said, according to The Courant. “Our kids never deal with this, they keep it inside, and that’s that nervous energy. That’s why they walked out.”

Adam Johnson, principal of Hartford High’s Law and Government Academy, agreed. “This is as important of a topic to discuss as anything in math, anything in social studies,” Johnson said. “I’m completely glad that we did it.”

The Family Institute of Connecticut (FIC) condemned the scandal, and called for a protest of the school’s decision, calling it “an outrageous attack on parental rights.”

FIC notes that a bill introduced earlier this year by Republican Sen. Kevin Witkos, which would have mandated that parents be allowed to opt out their children from sexuality instruction in schools, was never given a public hearing. “We will fight for it again next year and every year until it is passed,” said the group.

Same-sex “marriage” was imposed on Connecticut by the state’s Supreme Court in 2008, three years after granting “all-but-marriage” civil unions for homosexual couples.

I was once a naive suburban church lady, but I’ve been on FR a long time.

“Horrified” at sexual immorality? MALES? It is to laugh.

Very true but that is completely a different situation. It does not have that yuk factor. Seeing two beautiful blonds kissing is beautiful. There is a huge difference.

You have perfectly restated my original point. One might theorize that the type of sexual immorality with the "yuk factor" is that which gives the male viewer that little frisson of concern about what he might do, himself, to get off, if it came down to it.

“... they think girls kissing is “hot”

Not really. I think if a man watches two girls kissing, they find it “hot” because they mentally place themselves “with” the girls. At least, this is what I have been told. Perhaps some of our more open male FReepers could fill us in on this?!

While some trickled back in, officials had to prevent many from leaving the school building. GODLESS AND SOCIALIST GOVERNMENT INDOCTRINATION CAMP

There! Fixed that.

Waiting for some nitwit "conservative" to post that, instead of working for complete abolishment of this evil, we should get elected to the voting mob socialist indoctrination collective( mis-named "school board") so that this socialist and godless indoctrination can be "fixed". Their socialist schools are different, you see. They live in an area with great godless and socialist schools ( eye roll)

I’d rather not think about it, actually. I feel more positively about my husband when I stay off threads where males let it all hang out.

My trip to the dentist will help me forget ;-).

The left and the homos flip that suicide stat on its head by stating that its society’s non-acceptance of homosexuality that causes the guilt and suicidal tendencies.

They truly believe that if they get everyone shouting “gay is OK”, that their INNER voice will stop whispering “no, it’s not”.

It could have been worse. It could have included Bible reading, praying, and the pledge of allegiance to the flag of the United States.

Now, please: be serious. Everyone knows you can't do those things in a public school.

Unless we quickly reclaim our public institutions from the Progressives' clutches, we are so going to hell.

I hope your trip to the dentist goes fine. I have just always wondered why the view that men kissing is “gross” but female kissing is “hot”. I think it is all about imagining you are in the scene... and since males are more “visual” than women... that is what I came up with.

That's pretty much correct, I suppose. But reality never lives up to the fantasy because most of those "girls" look like Rosie O'Donnell in a plaid work shirt, hobnail boots, and a flattop haircut.

Thank you, Andy58-in-nh for educating me. I read an article years ago that males are “visual” lovers and females are “mental” lovers. I don’t think many men would find it appealing if two bulky, masculine women were making out. That type of imagery usually involves two very feminine women.

40 years ago, in 3 yr. High School of over 1500 students, I wasn’t aware of anyone who was gay. I was not isolated and learned that in college and later, some became aware of high school classmates that “came out”.

“Early release of inner conflict” doesn’t “help” anybody and to assert that it is “good” is nonsense.
The clear objective is to mainstream and normalize THE BEHAVIOR!
This means that KIDS WHO WERE MOLESTED BY GAYS, will be encouraged to pursue that behavior to rationalize THAT INNER CONFLICT.
Thus, reinforcing the FORCED CONVERSION!
In the “born that way” vs. molestation victims ratio among gays, the objective consensus is about 30%/70%.
This makes the nurturing of the molestation victims INTO the gay lifestyle, an important recruitment tool.

Since many of these students are Catholic I am sure the Hartford Bishop spoke out against this indoctrination. Not

No different from an incident last week at my son’s Homecoming Dance where two boys were “passionately” kissing.

Are your boys still in this school? Is any diploma or credential worth it?

What about the Protestant ministers and their leaders? Not!

How many Jewish rabbis? Not!

Let's follow the money. If the Catholic bishops did speak out then the the next question would be, why not open tuition-free Catholic schools like they have in Wichita, Kansas?

Ditto for the Protestant ministers and rabbis...but...their case is a tad different. How many spouses of ministers and rabbis **work** our godless socialist schools and get a paycheck and pension for corrupting the souls of children?

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

A good first step in reformation would be to make as many public institutions as private as possible. Our single payer socialist schools is a good place to start.
