Breaking on CNN
So unfortunate. RIP Dan Wheldon.
Is this event still on TV now??
It doesn’t necessarily mean that the media is morbid. Not everyone was watching and there will be some that will want to see the crash. Fans and drivers in other motor sports. That can’t be helped. They spoke of the catch fence causing a lot of damage. The video will probably be watched by some to see how to improve that.
Some people have no class.
Indy race car driver. Very, very nice guy with two little kids.
Yes, that is the guy.
Were they by chance on the same team?
Can you correct his name spelling in the title. Thanks
God,awful to watch.
RIP Mr. Weldon
50-100 high school athletes die every year in the United States. Sadly, these things happen.
No they ended the race and did the 5 laps and returned to regular programming.
You just wouldn’t understand so I won’t even go beyond to just tell you to opine on things you know something about.
We who are involved in this level of the sport do it because we love it, understand the consequences and accept that as what comes with the territory just as a soldier (done that too) understands the consequences of volunteering or striving to do what we do because it is what we do best. Live life to the fullest and have no regrets as to our fate.
For the family left behind, the racing community will make sure they are taken care of just as the military families do when a soldier has given the ultimate sacrifice. Having lived the life if both professions, they are very similar as to the sense of family that runs through them.
Some forms of racing are used as development labs for technology that eventually shows up in your street car and saves lives. ABS and traction control was perfected at the racetrack and then used in production cars, saving innumerable lives.
Don’t know how the technology will help us street folk, but the soft wall and hahn’s device certainly did its job in the Jimmy Johnson crash last night. Could have been an even worse weekend for racing...
They were not teammates, but friends for a long time. Wheldon was British and though he has Italian parents, Dario Franchitti is Scottish and married to American actress Ashley Judd.
RIP Dan
Later...
There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely games.
Hemingway
Isn’t he married to one of the Judd sisters? The actress?
Does anyone know why FR removed the news of Dan Wheldon’s death from the breaking news section and also the latest articles section? I had to search to find this thread again. That fine man has been dead for less than a couple of hours and news of his death has already been zotted? Shameful.
Can’t answer your question.
Or make a comparison to when Earnhardt died.
Maybe someone will know.
