A new Economist/YouGov poll finds Herman Cain leading the Republican presidential field with 33%, followed by Mitt Romney at 18%

“Me? I will not choose from only one party.”
Which Democrats are you voting for next year?
Not just one, MANY. You have freepmail.
I live in South Carolina, the must win state for Republicans, no one has won the GOP nomination without this state since the first Republican primary was held here. Also it is inconceivable that a Republican can win the general election without this state. I have not heard ANYONE say anything negative about Herman Cain yet. I SELDOM hear anyone say anything positive about Romney. I NO LONGER HEAR anyone say ANYTHING positive about OBAMA!
I said I’d only vote for a SECOND party. The dem and repub are the same.
I also weighted the polls by their size. For example, poll with a survey size of 1000 was weighted proportionately heavier than an 324 survey size.
I’m not for or against Perry at this point, but I have to comment that his drop in ratings is stunning, absolutely stunning.
Add to that, that Cain is going to blow it out in SC and FL.
>>The saboteur of HillaryCare versus the man who tried to resurrect HillaryCare (renamed as RomneyCare, the precursor of ObamaCare). Let this get known to the Republican primary voters and Cain surges another 20 points relative to Romney.
Great idea. And here’s the video of that:

>>The more I hear of Herman Cain, the more I like this guy. He’s a very impressive individual.
There’s a lot to like. I’ve been a supporter since 2004, in the primary against Isakson. I still have my lapel pin.
With Romney, don’t forget his 2A stance. There are a *lot* of conservatives who look to a candidate’s 2A position as the most important quick “read” of a candidate.
Mitt Romney and Gun Control

Read just the last 3 (short) paragraphs of that, if you don’t want to read the whole thing.
I’ve got to echo Cronos. Rick Perry’s fall in the polls is just stunning. The rate and depth of that slide can’t all be due to his ‘heartless’ remark about in-state tuition for illegals. By that graph, it appears that he just has not caught fire with voters in any significant way.
PTL!
You do good work.
Thanks for the ping to your chart. I think you should post this as its own thread at least once a week, or as major changes occur. Also, please give your full methodology.
“The dem and repub are the same.”
What have you been smoking? Ron Paul weed? It may seem that Dem and Rep are the same sometimes, but let me query you this....How many Reps voted for Obamacare? Must have been quite a few since the legislation passed. That many?????? Boy, they are the same.
Or for that matter, can you tell me how many 3rd party ellected officials there are in either state or Federal offices????? Now there’s a powerful voice for ya!
In the 1990’s Bill Clinton started the meme that there is no difference between the parties in order to triangulate voters into supporting him. That meme has grown over the years into attitudes like you have just expressed. Congradulations and wipe that green stuff off your chin....
Yes, I understand dis-satisfaction with party leadership, and agree. The solution is to retake the leadership of the party by more Conservative, and less eastcoast (or eastcoast influenced) Rock-afeller types.
You willingness to jump ship to some marginal type 3rd party in lieu of standing your ground and fighting for your beliefs within the Republican party accomplishes nothing....exactly nothing. No matter how you want to couch it, you’re determined to tell politicians....”Hey, look at me, I’m irrelevant!”
Wouldn’t your time and efforts be better spent in promoting real, and uncorruptable grassroots big C Conservatives both as your local party leadership and as your local state and federal elected officials?
Oh I forgot you’d just rather cast an anonymous 3rd party vote....quick, easy (requiring almost no effort), and painless (therefore ineffective).
Congradulations! You’ve just won the turkey!
As demonstrated in the 2010 elections, it is possible to change the conservative party into the Conservative Party. The TEA party activists are in the midst of doing just that.
Will it happen overnight? Nope. But like the old saying a journey of 1000 miles starts with the step you take today.
Consider how the extreme left has, since the 50’s taken over the Democrat party untill we have full blown socialists/communists in the highest circles of Goverment, Education/the media.
I know you’re waiting for that magic bullet, perfect President that will change it overnight no matter who is in Congress......
Well I understand that...after all it is “Great Pumpkin” season......lololol.
How can “we” possibly destroy Perry? It’s the candidates’ job to convince “us” they’re the right person for the job, it’s not our responsibility to latch onto a candidate and stick with him or her like glue. As people get to know various candidates & see their public persona (an important quality in a person who wants to be president is how well they can think and express themselves on the fly) they naturally take a closer look at those on the “top”.
Perry is often tongue-tied in debates. When he goes against 0bama the press will crucify him. He may be highly intelligent and have good ideas but if he can’t effectively express them when debating 0bama he’s going to get labeled with the “stupid” meme. These debates, regardless of how inane they are or how many “gotcha” questions they get asked are a dress rehearsal. How they handle everyone “ganging” up on them is important. So far Cain has handled that very well (unfortunately so has Romney for the most part...he’s certainly proved himself to be better able to handle it better than Perry) and Perry has not.
Debate performance is something the CAN be practiced and improved. Perry, with his years and years of campaigning hasn’t yet learned how. That’s troubling to me because either he’s tone deaf or doesn’t particularly care. Cain is supposedly an “amateur” and yet he’s shined enough to gain the notice of everyone, including the press. Why people continue to say Perry is the only one who can beat Romney is a concept I simply don’t understand and have no idea why his supporters continue to believe that. The only thing I can see that they have in common is that they are/have been governors and they’re both “pretty boys”. Honestly, every time I see them together I always think I’m looking at a couple of used car salesmen or board members of the Hair Club for Men.
Romney is despised by the hardcore primary voters. In spite of conventional wisdom in the beltway, I don’t think they understand how palpable the anger of the people is towards “traditional” politicians and the political establishment. Look how many non politicians were elected in the midterms.
Even people who aren’t political junkies know it’s time to clean house. A candidate such as Cain who is an outsider with executive experience is appealing to people. Plus, he’s slowly built respect and interest whereas other candidates have flashed onto the scene and crashed under the weight of their own performance. So far, with all the scrutiny Cain is getting, he has only continued to get stronger and his competence is beginning to resonate. There’s no reason to think he can’t beat Romney.

Oh and as an old Navy veteran I had no use for the Marines then but thank God we got them now...
We are going to need them—soon!
I know they won't put the CinC before their oath to protect the US Constitution.
I think Cain is a gift from God. We just have to wait and see if everyone is smart enough to get behind him and get him to the top1
Thanks for posting a reply that was reasonable and not hate filled.
However, at least three other candidates have focused their attacks on destroying Perry. (Bachmann, Santorum and Cain)
Of that triumverate, only Cain seems to be seriously in the running.
Perry did not perform well in the second debate; it kinda made me cringe because he is so much better than that. I think he may have been a little blindsided by all the hate directed toward him.
He was much better in the last debate and most commentators gave him props for that.
He is a seasoned campaigner and is charismatic and inspiring in personal appearances.
You say ‘he is often tongue-tied in debates.’ I guess you are basing that on the one debate.
The press will crucify any Republican candidate no matter who it is.
My problem is that Cain is such an unknown quantity. He’s already shown a temper problem when challenged and kind of seems to seems to have a ‘how dare you question me?’ thing going.
Cain handled the early debates well by staying pleasant and saying not much of anything. On the last debate he got flustered when questioned about who his financial advisors are, got a name wrong and a place wrong and seemed confused.
When Cain is seriously challenged, then we’ll see.
Perry has had years and years in the public eye as governor of a huge state. He’s done well. Although he is an experienced politician, he is not an establishment politician (as in, ties to Washington)
He’s put forth a thoughtful serious plan. I love his wanting to dismantle the EPA and seriously go after our own natural resources.
Well, anyway, like I said, thanks for a decent post.
I’m really sick of the animosity. This election is important. We need to be able to discuss candidates reasonably. Nothing squelches conversation like snarky comments and name calling. And it’s rather immature. I’ve resolved to not do it when I post. I’m not always successful, political junkies are quite passionate, but I’m going to try.
