How can “we” possibly destroy Perry? It’s the candidates’ job to convince “us” they’re the right person for the job, it’s not our responsibility to latch onto a candidate and stick with him or her like glue. As people get to know various candidates & see their public persona (an important quality in a person who wants to be president is how well they can think and express themselves on the fly) they naturally take a closer look at those on the “top”.
Perry is often tongue-tied in debates. When he goes against 0bama the press will crucify him. He may be highly intelligent and have good ideas but if he can’t effectively express them when debating 0bama he’s going to get labeled with the “stupid” meme. These debates, regardless of how inane they are or how many “gotcha” questions they get asked are a dress rehearsal. How they handle everyone “ganging” up on them is important. So far Cain has handled that very well (unfortunately so has Romney for the most part...he’s certainly proved himself to be better able to handle it better than Perry) and Perry has not.
Debate performance is something the CAN be practiced and improved. Perry, with his years and years of campaigning hasn’t yet learned how. That’s troubling to me because either he’s tone deaf or doesn’t particularly care. Cain is supposedly an “amateur” and yet he’s shined enough to gain the notice of everyone, including the press. Why people continue to say Perry is the only one who can beat Romney is a concept I simply don’t understand and have no idea why his supporters continue to believe that. The only thing I can see that they have in common is that they are/have been governors and they’re both “pretty boys”. Honestly, every time I see them together I always think I’m looking at a couple of used car salesmen or board members of the Hair Club for Men.
Romney is despised by the hardcore primary voters. In spite of conventional wisdom in the beltway, I don’t think they understand how palpable the anger of the people is towards “traditional” politicians and the political establishment. Look how many non politicians were elected in the midterms.
Even people who aren’t political junkies know it’s time to clean house. A candidate such as Cain who is an outsider with executive experience is appealing to people. Plus, he’s slowly built respect and interest whereas other candidates have flashed onto the scene and crashed under the weight of their own performance. So far, with all the scrutiny Cain is getting, he has only continued to get stronger and his competence is beginning to resonate. There’s no reason to think he can’t beat Romney.
Cindie
Oh and as an old Navy veteran I had no use for the Marines then but thank God we got them now...
We are going to need them—soon!
I know they won't put the CinC before their oath to protect the US Constitution.
Thanks for posting a reply that was reasonable and not hate filled.
However, at least three other candidates have focused their attacks on destroying Perry. (Bachmann, Santorum and Cain)
Of that triumverate, only Cain seems to be seriously in the running.
Perry did not perform well in the second debate; it kinda made me cringe because he is so much better than that. I think he may have been a little blindsided by all the hate directed toward him.
He was much better in the last debate and most commentators gave him props for that.
He is a seasoned campaigner and is charismatic and inspiring in personal appearances.
You say ‘he is often tongue-tied in debates.’ I guess you are basing that on the one debate.
The press will crucify any Republican candidate no matter who it is.
My problem is that Cain is such an unknown quantity. He’s already shown a temper problem when challenged and kind of seems to seems to have a ‘how dare you question me?’ thing going.
Cain handled the early debates well by staying pleasant and saying not much of anything. On the last debate he got flustered when questioned about who his financial advisors are, got a name wrong and a place wrong and seemed confused.
When Cain is seriously challenged, then we’ll see.
Perry has had years and years in the public eye as governor of a huge state. He’s done well. Although he is an experienced politician, he is not an establishment politician (as in, ties to Washington)
He’s put forth a thoughtful serious plan. I love his wanting to dismantle the EPA and seriously go after our own natural resources.
Well, anyway, like I said, thanks for a decent post.
