SHOCK POLL: Herman Cain Leads GOP Nationally! (PPP Poll has Romney trailing by 8 points)
Business Insider ^ | 10/12/2011 | Zeke Miller

Posted on 10/12/2011 12:37:00 PM PDT by SeekAndFind

Businessman Herman Cain has risen to the top of a national poll of Republican primary voters, upending the GOP field yet again this cycle.

Cain has the support of 30 percent of Republicans in the Public Policy Polling survey, trailed by Mitt Romney at 22 percent, Newt Gingrich at 15 percent, and Rick Perry at 14 percent. Cain is also the second choice of 24 percent of those polled — the highest of any candidate.

In a two-person race, Romney would lead Perry 48-38, Cain would lead Romney 48-36, and Cain would destroy Perry 55-27.

The poll was conducted before last night's Washington Post-Bloomberg debate, in which Cain alienated some members of the tea party (his largest constituency) by saying he admired Alan Greenspan's leadership of the Federal Reserve.

PPP has a checkered history with polling — and this poll has a VERY large 4.5 percent margin of error — so don't read too much into this just yet.

It's actually shameful that a Freeper who has apparently been here for two years would be so uninformed. Your statement that Herman Cain has "no experience" except for being a motivational speaker is so off base that it doesn't really merit a reply.

However, I can add considerably to Cain's resume:

So much for your ludicrous statement that Cain has "no experience" and is nothing but a motivational speaker. Though I must say that with that much life experience, he is well-suited to be a motivational speaker. Hell, I got motivated just reading through his resume. What an impressive list of accomplishments for a man with such humble beginnings (his father was a janitor and his mother was a cleaning woman).

Contrast that to the current occupant of the White House who never did an honest day work in his life. The current president never even ran a hot dog stand and his only experience outside politics was "community organizing" which is basically getting people on welfare and food stamps and getting socialists/marxists elected to public office.

So I think it is quite shameful that you would attempt to marginalize the accomplishments of Herman Cain. Cain may not have the "political" experience that voters have been conditioned to believe that a candidate should have but Herman Cain has a track record of getting things done and he is the kind of leader we need to send to Washington.

You are right....my husband asked his college football buddies (60+ year olds) about Cain....they had a hard time figuring out who he was.....I said something to a contractor in our house today (woman) and she asked me who he was. Lots of people are not paying attention yet.

The character of men and nations are best revealed by adversity.

Perhaps we are destined to be tested again -I’m not sure we have prepared our children and grandchildren for a serious catastrophe.

Witness the ‘Occupy’ morons. Being limited to purchasing only one pair of shoes rather than five cannot be construed as any kind of sacrifice or crisis.

Herman Cain enjoys a strong national showing because the more people hear from Mr. Cain the more people are paying attention to Mr. Cain. Look I was at a gas station today on my way to work and a Lady had a handmade Herman Cain for President sign in her front car window a guy said to her so you are a Herman Cain fan and stated that he still liked Obama but was willing to listen to what Cain had to say. I jumped in the conversation and began to explain the benefits of the 999 plan. The point is that I have never heard people in the general public so interested in a politician before. Most people keep to themselves and don’t discuss their political leanings but for some reason Herman Cain is sparking that emotion in America. The smart thing would be for these other politicians to just get onboard the Cain Train and lets get moving.

I’m curious if there is any thought given to only taxing durable goods and not food. I think more people would support the sales tax if it didn’t include food. That’s how it’s done in my locality with our local sales taxes. An increase of 9cents on the dollar would probably not sit well in bigger cities where local & state sales tax is already over 8%. I understand how with the other taxes eliminated it would actually transfer to a SAVINGS, but I’m curious as to how we can push this plan with people who are already being taxed mercilessly on a variety of things they purchase already (take gasoline for instance).

Please do feel free to direct me to a website, or the like - I know I need to increase my understanding of this plan.

Maybe I have become senile, but my best memories of when Alan Greenspan was running the fed, was that interest rates were low, steady, and stable. No bailouts and no stimulus injections.

"The Perry fangirls need to talk their guy out of the race and quit siphoning votes from Herman Cain." Or else they must want Romney to win! A vote for Perry is a vote for Romney! God it feels good to turn that around on them!

Ditto That!

1) Ditch 999 fast- He should simply say, he wants to abollish the cuirrent tax system- He starts the discussion wt 999 and defends it, but he says he’s amenable to discuss other proposals so long as the tax system is revamped. He may have orginally needed 999 as an attention getter—— he surely doesn’t need it now.

2) Ditch big business - He was a CEO - but he also flipped burgers. Be more the burger flipper, the “po” guy is where his votes are.

Yes, Romney has been annointed by the Establishment- but frankly, that should be the “kiss of death” if GOP primaries 2010 are the guage. One bone fide outsider will knock him off easy. Cain is the outsider-—he blows his opportunity if he presents himself as a guy at the ready to join the Establishment in giving more taxpayer money to subsidize the losses of private businesses (eg, banks).

Gov. Palin was too long in coming to the message she delivered in Iowa— i.e- members of her own party were among the biggest “crony capitalists”. Cain has to change gears, and adopt that message-campaign against the establishment.

As predicted by many here, Newt is bubbling into the top tier.

Random prediction - Newt's the next one to lead the field, after a brief scare that puts Romney on top.

Ping!

The Wall Street Journal found PPP to be the most accurate pollster of the 2008 presidential election. Nate Silver, a respected statistician and founder of FiveThirtyEight has also found PPP to be one of the more accurate pollsters in recent times. PPP correctly predicted all six Wisconsin recall elections this year, even the races that Democrats lost. They've also correctly called all the special elections this year.

The solid grassroots support for Herman Cain and the real enthusiasm he elicits is the proof that Conservatives are truly color-blind. We, unlike liberals, are the people that look at the merits of an individual.

Right on.

Because what we need to pull us out of this mess that the politicians have created, is an experienced and seasoned politician.

Political experience is the only kind of skill that will be of any use to the country now.
