According to the survey, which was released Monday, 28 percent of Republicans and independents who lean towards the GOP say they support Perry as their party's presidential nominee, with Romney at 21 percent. Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich is at ten percent, with Rep. Ron Paul of Texas, who's making his third bid for the White House, former Godfather's Pizza CEO and radio talk show host Herman Cain, and former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, all at seven percent. The poll indicates that Rep. Michele Bachmann of Minnesota is at four percent, with former Sen. Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania at three percent and former Utah Gov. and ambassador to China Jon Huntsman at one percent.

The fact is that Perry opposed building even the 700 mile fence that Bush signed into law in 2006. Even Obama and Biden voted for it.

Yes, and the MSM picked another liberal, McCain, as Plan B if messiah Obama didn’t pan out.

Myth is their Plan B this time.

Sorry, won’t be fooled again.

An elite, weird, RINo like Romney is a non-starter.

Infinitely what ? All 3 are world-class liars and phonies. If La Raza Rick wants to be the champion of criminal invaders, he can go back to the party he opportunistically left. Good riddance.

When it comes to jobs and many other issues, Perry is the man. Thanks to his fiscally conservative leadership, Texans enjoy one of the lowest tax burdens in the country and one of the lowest government debt burdens per capita.

His last debate worries me though. His campaign said he was tired. I can easily believe that after watching and listening to him.

I'm just worried that it would repeat itself during a debate between Perry and Obama. And that is something we do NOT want to see happening.

Rick Perry has a track record as governor. And that record shows that he is able to revive our economy, create jobs and protect America’s place as the world’s economic leader.

I will give him the benefit of the doubt but will be watching him closely in the next debates.

There are those looking for that perfect candidate. Well there is none. That's why we have a Congress. In my state we wee under democratic control for decades (governorship, the House and Senate). They are all red. All republican.

If we spend all of our time looking for the perfect candidate we will lose valuable time painting the US Senate red and winning many more seats in the House.

There's a Tea Party candidate running against Boehner. He needs our support. I've heard a rumor that two Tea Party candidates are going after Olympia Snowe. There's a BIG opportunity for a major change.

If we won big in the House and also got the majority back in the Senate but Obama gets reelected I doubt much will change. Given Obama's (Chavez like ways) being a lame duck would not change much under Obama. He's been by-passing Congress on issues such as Libya and a whole list of other issues. He's actually gone to the UN to make a complaint against a US state. Sorry, we need to get rid of Obama. He needs to lose in 2012 or the majority in both houses mean nothing.

Whoever wins the nomination we must get behind him or her. They don't need us. America does.

If Obama voted for it that only confirms that the fence is useless. Tell me, what has Obama succeeded in since... let me re-state that: What has Obama ever done that resulted in something positive for America?

NOTHING!

One of the most prominent Constitution loving conservatives on the internet was once a registered Democrat.
There were once very conservative dems in Texas...
The only time Texas voted Republican was in National elections...I worked hard to get the first Republican Dallas County Commissioner elected..
Texas literally had a one party state for generations.
Now we are in the majority..I was in my 30s when we had our first Republican primaries.

Hi Gardencatz, that is a good response. I agree that laws are to be followed. I also know that you would acknowledge that there are situations, such as the American Revolution, where there is a case to ignore, change, or break laws. Tea Partiers around the US celebrate that fact, that it was a proper thing to throw the tea into Boston Harbor.

The only question would be if the Mexican illegal immigrants are such an exception.

Why are the coming? What are they fleeing or what are they pursuing? What harm are they doing?

Are we possibly witnessing an historic migration more than anything else?

Yes, Perry is infinitely more conservative than Romney or Obama.

Perry is pro-life. The other two aren't. He opposes the homosexual agenda. Romney advanced it in Massachusetts and Obama is ramming down the nation's throat.

Romney and Obama both passed through socialized health schemes. Texas spends less per resident than any state in the union and Perry, at great political risk, is taking on the Social Security Ponzi scheme.

The economic conditions in Texas, which Perry has helped create with ideas like tort reform and with opposition to excessive regulations, has resulted in Texas creating more than half the jobs in the nation while it has lost three million jobs under Obama. Romney's record on job creation was pathetic in Massachusetts.

How did the media pick McCain? Did we not have primary elections in each state?

Let’s face reality, the crop of GOP candidates in 2008 was pathetic. McCain rose to the top because no one else was any good, not saying McCain was. By default he got the nomination.

Warning, heresy to follow, do not read if you cannot contain your anger or the desire to respond with invective and argumentum ad hominem: ..... As it has been from the beginning, it's Romney's to lose. Barring any horrible blunders, which is not his campaign style, Romney will win in New Hampshire, and despite losses in southern states, will amass the delegates he needs in the larger, delegate rich (mostly) coastal states to be the nominee. He need only remain a business-saavy, growth-focused, presidential-sounding alternative to Obama, to be acceptable in the long run. Unless a major candidate gets in (namely Christie), which is everyday even more highly unlikely; the die is cast. For those who feel as I do, we have the benefit of ignoring the endless presidential speculation threads, especially the absurd ones about Palin's entry, but I decided to chime in today for amusement sake. I know you'll be grateful. There simply aren't enough conservatives under the Republican banner to force through a Bachmann or a Cain, (who would lose in the general anyway) and Perry (George W. Bush 2.0) is already proving to be an inadequate vessel to contain all those hopes that propelled him into the top spot. Romney isn't popular because he isn't real conservative, and the primary polls reflect it, but in the end, he'll be seen as safe and therefor electable, and that will carry the day. ..... americanophile

Although reluctant to think so, your analysis is probably correct.

My candidate has been a "What", not a "Who", with the definition of "The most conservative candidate, other than Romney, that can actually defeat Obama."

A few months ago, when the GOP field was so pathetic in terms of actual experience that even the joke of Donald Trump raised the hopes of some, it was obvious to me that my "What" candidate was not in the race. Surely, in all of America, there had to be some options other than a Congressmember with zero executive experience or a former pizza chain CEO that had never won an election in his life.

The entry of the relatively conservative Governor of the second largest state in the Union with 11 years experience seemed like the answer. Yet, Perry seems to function at the level of his 2.2 GPA average in college, and, worse, he does not bother to study or prepare very hard for the debates with predictable consequenes. Like Bush, Perry cannot or will not explain his position to the voters. Although far more conservative than Romney, Conservatives lash out at him if he is to the Right of only 80% of all Americans instead of to the Right of 90% of all Americans. To compensate, Perry acts as if he is still in Bible Belt Texas, trying to appease that 20% fringe, thereby making himself far less attractive to the majority of American voters.

Perry is more conservative than most American voters but the conservatives hate him for not being conservative enough. It is a toxic dynamic that is not working and will never work.

Barring a "Deus ex machina" phenomenon, my "What" candidate is a doomed hope.

So, I believe you are correct. Whether I want him or not, it seems that Romney will most likely be the winner of the GOP nomination. That's the bad news.

The good news is that, with conservatives or without them, Romney will then kick Obama's butt.

Oh, I’m sorry, I didn’t realize you’re another n00b Perrybot paid to post talking points on this website. Sorry, but your boss is another phony like Willard and Zero. Open borders LIEBERALS (sic) like Ricky are 100% unacceptable and he will never get my vote or millions of others whom he insulted once again for wanting the laws against illegals ENFORCED. So you can spare us more excuses and talking points. We’ve had quite enough.

So, what difference does it make if they are paying in-state or out-of-state tuition rates?

BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT LEGAL RESIDENTS OF THE STATE. IN ADDITION, IF THERE IS GOING TO BE IN-STATE TUITION GIVEN TO ANYONE, IT SHOULD BE TO THE LEGAL RESIDENTS OF THE OTHER 49 STATES. FURTHER, MOST OF THE ILLEGALS GET SCHOOL BASED HELP WHICH ALSO SHOULD GO TO LEGAL RESIDENTS.

Vetoing the legislation merely would have alienated voters and Hispanics without doing anything to slow illegal immigration.

IT WOULD NOT ALIENATE THE HISPANIC PEOPLE I KNOW. I HAVE LOTS OF FAMILY AND FRIENDS OF THAT BACKGROUND. WHO IT MIGHT ALIENATE ARE THE VERY HISPANICS WHO WOULD BRING THIS COUNTRY DOWN WITH THEIR IMMORAL DEMANDS FOR WHAT IS NOT RIGHTFULLY THEIRS. THERE ARE FEWER AND FEWER OF THEM AS THE LAW ABIDING ONES REALIZE THAT THE LAWBREAKERS ARE DESTROYING THE AMERICAN DREAM FOR ALL THE LEGAL RESIDENTS OF THIS COUNTRY. AS ONE LEGAL RELATIVE SAID, IF THEY GIVE FREE STUFF TO THEM, I WILL REALLY ——ED.

...taxes on Texans and American taxpayers are impacted by the needed growth in infrastructure and teachers due to more enrollments. The more students enrolling, the more taxes, oops, sorry, “revenue” needs to be raised in order to accommodate the increase in student enrollments.

Since the illegals don’t (besides sales taxes) pay any taxes openly, who covers the difference? That’s right, the legals.

Or are you taking a zero sum game position? If so, which American taxpayers’ kids get bumped in favor of the illegals?
