Having tied the knot in a white wedding, a lesbian couple thought the icing on the cake would be a traditional honeymoon along with other young couples.
But the trip turned out to be a nightmare after staff at their resort treated them as if it was not a "real honeymoon" and excluded them from special romantic meals and dances.
Gemma Harman, 24, and Tamsin Harper, 36, said it was the "worst two weeks" of their lives and the "homophobic manner" in which they were treated was "disgusting".
The couple, from Brighouse, near Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, decided to go on the trip to a resort in Dominican Republic run by Thomson after their civil ceremony.
As it specialised in honeymoon couples and was run by a major tour operator they thought it would an ideal way to celebrate their union.
But they claim the company refused to acknowledge their holiday as a honeymoon and say they did not receive the special treatment offered to others because they were a same-sex couple. Ms Harman was so angry she contacted a local radio station to complain about "homophobic manner" in which they were treated.
The newly-weds claimed that other couples were treated "like VIPs", being offered special romantic meals at the hotel and having bottles of rum and fruit put in their room, but they received nothing.
When they tried to book a meal, it was never arranged and when they tried to complain, staff were "dismissive".
They were even excluded from a dancing competition because they were not a male and female pairing.
"They just did not treat us the same as everybody else," Ms Harman told Real Radio.

‘Sounds lik the perfect resort for heterosexual newlyweds. And a great , free advert for the resort.
Actually civil unions are law in the UK not homosexual marriage.
The Govt and Cameron are looking at this issue right now but there is a lot of people against them getting married.
Therefore technically they were never really married and even if they were then when one goes to a country we respect their laws not they respect our laws.
We would not allow 4 muslim women for a muslim man and Saudi would not allow homosexuals .
These kind of people always think it’s about them because the media defends them and then they cry a river, well tough the majority do not agree with them and it is high time people spoke up in public against it.
Pingaling for later.
It seems that some groups of people purposefully go into a situation looking for discord. This gives them a reason to call attention to imagined slights and to garner sympathy, file lawsuits and change the world. I have heard of too many gays doing this- remember the butt pirate in Texas who called the police to say someone broke into his house then engaged in anal sex (Ick) just as the police arrived so he would be arrested? He was able to challenge the law about gay sex. The gays love this. When they successfully challenge laws that call their behavior what it is, they become gay folk heroes and celebrated wherever their gay selves go by gay people everywhere.
That being said, those women are just plain nasty looking and I wouldn’t touch them with someone else’s vagina.
I'm not going to go to the issue whether it's perception or fact. Each of us has a lot of stories about how hotels/restaurants treat us badly, and both sides (hotel/restaurant and us) can argue until the cow comes home whether they're perception or fact, and God knows who's right.
My point is, the company should state that they cater specifically to heterosexual honeymooners. Otherwise, they have to prepare such thing happens. And if it does, they need to treat the customers equally. It may be against the law for a company to say they cater only to heterosexual couples, but I think companies should be allowed to cater customers to their competency--in this case heterosexual couples.
They were treated differently because they are different. They aren’t married. Marriage is between one man and one woman, and I don’t care how many people they sue, how many laws they change, if they get the state to redefine marriage, and if the whole world is cheering them on. I’m not saying that out of hatred and intolerance; I’m saying it because it’s the truth, the absolute truth which comes from God. If you truly care about people, you won’t lie to them; you will share the truth even if it may hurt their feelings.
Far uglier women than those two have successfully married men, raised children, lived to a ripe old age with their husband.
If you wanna be happy for the rest of your life ...
They're lesbians because something is mentally wrong with them.
They'll get back to you as soon as they've picked out their turkey baster.
hope my last posts to you did not come across as having a go at you BTW.
What most queers don’t realize is that even their straight liberal enablers despise them behind their backs.
She added: It was highly disappointing, there was just nothing that made it special, it was possibly the worst two weeks I’ve spent ever.
Just wait until you have your first knock-down, drag-out catfight, sweetheart.
My money’s on the one with the butch hairdo.
Hahaha... no, worries. And no, I won’t go to gay cruise...LOL I understand what you’re saying. The thing is, this is a honeymoon package, not just hotel. So, it is about ‘couple’. I don’t like it, but in a liberal environment we live today, it’s not wise to be unprepared for such thing to happen. eHarmony, I think, learned it in a hard way. Had they specified in the website that they catered only to heterosexual customers because they’re lacking the expertise to deal with homosexual relationship, they wouldn’t have hit with the lawsuit.

Face this homo’s: Being homosexual is not normal. Amost all people are uncomfortable around homosexuals. This is normal. While tolerated, homosexual behavior is never normal, and will never be treated as such.
The Dominican Republic is likely to tell you, “Your government may have declared you whatever they like, that does not obligate us or our businesses to participate in your delusion.”
“Far uglier women than those two have successfully married men, raised children, lived to a ripe old age with their husband.”
While I agree with that, I would like to point out that this was more common in the past, and people seem to be much more shallow now.
Also, I live in NW Florida which seems to have become absolutely infested with lesbians. I don’t recall seeing so many of them when I used to live in New Orleans. I’ve been here for 6 years, and I have probably seen 2 gay males that I could recognize as gay, but thousands of lesbians.
From my observations, almost none of them were what I would call attractive females. In fact some of the are so unbelievably ugly that I developed the term “Lesbians of Necessity”.
I would also definitely agree that something is mentally wrong with them. I do not believe they were born with this preference for one second. If this is a feature of birth, it has increased in frequency at some exponential rate in the past decade or so.
This leads me to believe that they are either choosing to live this way, or they are being manufactured.
