This sprawling suburban school system, much of it within Michele Bachmanns Congressional district, is caught in the eye of one of the countrys hottest culture wars how homosexuality should be discussed in the schools.
After years of harsh conflict between advocates for gay students and Christian conservatives, the issue was already highly charged here. Then in July, six students brought a lawsuit contending that school officials have failed to stop relentless antigay bullying and that a district policy requiring teachers to remain neutral on issues of sexual orientation has fostered oppressive silence and a corrosive stigma.
Also this summer, parents and students here learned that the federal Department of Justice was deep into a civil rights investigation into complaints about unchecked harassment of gay students in the district. The inquiry is still under way.
Through it all, conservative Christian groups have demanded that the schools avoid any descriptions of homosexuality or same-sex marriage as normal, warning against any surrender to what they say is the homosexual agenda of recruiting youngsters to an unhealthy and abnormal lifestyle.
Adding an extra incendiary element, the school district has suffered eight student suicides in the last two years, leading state officials to declare a suicide contagion. Whether antigay bullying contributed to any of these deaths is sharply disputed; some friends and teachers say four of the students were struggling with issues of sexual identity.
In many larger cities, lessons in tolerance of sexual diversity are now routine parts of health education and antibully training. But in the suburbs the battle rages on, perhaps nowhere more bitterly than here in the Anoka-Hennepin School District, just north of Minneapolis. With 38,000 students, it is Minnesotas largest school system, and most of it lies within the Congressional district of Ms. Bachmann, a Republican contender for president.

You can expect pedophilia to follow (along with only God knows what else)
What’s “bullying”?
If the gay kids are getting called names well, life’s hard...too bad.
If the gay kids are getting beat up then that’s assault and it’s a crime that already has laws and of course those laws should be enforced.
OTOH “gays”don’t want to be “judged” by their SEX LIFE.
And then OTOH, they WANT you to RESPECT their “lifestyle choice” and KNOW about their SEX LIFE.
“Gays” want it both ways depending on what is more advantageous to them at the MOMENT.
Have “gays” go to a “gay” school.
There they can molest eachother.
No one NORMAL would DEFEND what is clearly ABNORMAL.
To be “gay” is a “lifestyle CHOICE” that is NOT NORMAL.
The ONLY reason they are making this an “issue” is bacause Backman is running. Otherwise you wouldn’t be hearing about it if there is an issue. They know that Bachman who is a conservative Christian could not possibly EMBRACE perversion.
How did I ever get through school without being taught how wonderful homosexuality was and how homosexuals made America great? The schools are simply promoting homosexuality as a normal and rewarding lifestyle choice. I am just waiting for some serious judgment to come to America, though I believe Obama is part of that judgment that has already come.
Life was so much better when homosexuals were in closets!
From what I can determine, showing any sign of disapproval of their perversion is "bullying", including the wearing of "straight pride" t-shirts.
This article isn't about gay students being bullied, it's about destroying Michele Bachmann.
The Poofter Press HATES her and can't allow her to become a candidate for President - ohhh, puh-leeeze.
Isn't that special that they could find something negative, at least in their minds, to tie to Michele.
I’m with you. The only words that are “bullying” are threats.
The real problem is that it’s being discussed at all.
Years ago, schools were expected to teach reading, writing, and arithmatic, sciences and history. Schools also taught what were called “civics” and often foreign language. All other things were handled within the family, the church, the community, and with private research on the part of the individual.
Why should sex and morals be taught in school at all? We have made a monster of schools in a way they were never intended to function.
When the NYT gets its quotation marks out, you know they’re deadly serious!
Never mind that the agenda is quite real despite their attempts to pretend otherwise.
Higher standards are necessary for everyone in order to maintain a learning environment, and there's no need for teachers to address varieties of sexual behavior at all, except to say that no "sexual behavior" at all is tolerated on school grounds.
Wouldn't that about cover it?
The best answer to any bully is to slug him in the mouth. Then, you are no longer a victim. But the Left wishes to create "victims" rather than empower them - or to objectively judge their own behavior .
Today we have a Cult of Victimhood, whose accredited members (women, minorities, gays) are accorded superior "rights" and accusation privileges, the purpose of which is not to defend their personal liberty but to justify the taking of rights from others in the pursuit of political power.
If the gays would only keep it to themselves, nobody would bother them. The “love that dare not speak its name” now won’t shut the heck up!
In the 8th grade one of my girlfriends and I got into a tussle in the hall, we were both sent to the Vice principal's office, got chewed out and sent home....but sent out of the school 1/2 hour after the other girl was...I waited for her and when she showed up, we had a cigarette together and went home...it was nothing but a flare up that meant nothing.
In other words, it really doesn't have anything to do with bullying. It has to do with wanting teachers to be cheerleaders for a particular brand of perversion.
