Mr. Perry holds to the Chief Executives right to issue such EOs although the public outcry on this PARTICULAR EO and the legislature's passing of a counter-action made him accept defeat on this one. In general he seems to indicate that such dictates of EO's of a similar functional nature are within the Governor's authority. Is it true the Texas Constitution allows that kind of dictatorial power? Certainly the US Constitution does not grant the President such power.
At least thats my take on Mr. Perry's comments tonight.
That's also a rediculous argument. We aren't talking about forcing girls to have sex, we are talking about giving them a vaccine.
The idea that being protected from a subset of HPV infections, which are only a subset of all sexually transmitted diseases, and which doesn't include protection from HIV or pregnancy, would somehow tip the scales and convince a girl who wasn't going to have sex to have sex, is ignorant.
Anybody who was going to actually think through having sex based on getting a disease is going to realise that this vaccine doesn't lower the odds nearly enough to risk it.
The Vaccine protects girls who were going to have sex anyway, from a disease that can be fatal, that a majority of women end up catching, and that nobody thinks about when they have sex.
If they had an actual vaccine that could protect girls safely from all sexually transmitted disease, including HIV, would you deny it to girls on account of the fact that it would make sex less dangerous for them? Do you think that sex should be a dangerous proposition?
Or would you let them get the vaccine if they were getting married? Because married girls can get sexually transmitted diseases as well, even if they were virgins when they got married. THeir husbands might cheat on them -- and certainly we don't want to punish women for their husband's indiscretions.
If you are pissed off by now at what I seem to be insinuating, that is the point -- your comment suggests that you oppose Gardisil because it would allow girls to have sex and not get a terminal cancer. Is that really what you meant? What other point could you be making with your comment?
Actually if you watched Sarah live when she supposedly praised Perry for his comments on SS, it was not like it has been reported, transcript does not really do it justice.
Much like when it was reported that Sarah said she was very happy with the current field, that was reported all over the press...Palin very happy with current field.
Actually in reality they had to drag that out of her, and in an attempt to not sound to negative answered yes I am happy with it, but added more will be getting in and that is good. I paraphrase
Sarah had every opportunity over the last little while to correct the way her comments had been received by C4P for example, she did not and tonight after Gretta there is now no doubt....
BTW, it is becoming more clear that Sarah Palin=Fred Thompson. No fire in the belly. I don’t blame her.
Drink!
Um, no.
If my kids didn't earn a spot and were beat out by other students for the slots, then no, I could care less. If these children of illegal aliens scored higher on the SAT's and had better grades than my kids, then they deserve the spots and my kids should have worked harder and studied more.
I have no animosity to kids who were dragged here by their parents. They broke no laws. And if they studied hard and got better grades than anyone else, they should not be punished for the sins of their parents.
If you think your kids should get a break because they weren't smart enough to get a higher SAT than some illegal alien, then maybe they need to go to junior college and retake all the classes they flunked in High School.
Emotional logic. Oprah loves you. Every charlatan and popular despot in History loves you.
How this is any different, I have no idea. Why you want to dismiss this as a beaten horse rather than a sign of a non conservative doing something as a nanny stater is beyond comprehension.
[A doorknob doesnt spread HPV?! Dont tell that to Dan Savage!]
LOL, actually it probably could if a person with HPV had had saliva on their hands.
But I know you were joking - I think. I lost much hearing in early life and cannot enjoy all the talk radio hosts. :(
OK, Noobie. Good first comment.
Not knowing much about HPV, I can’t say much.
I do know someone who works very low level at Merck. She despises the place, though.
At this point, consider yourself razzed.
Welcome to the fight.
You are going to be in for a huge surprise
While I agree with Romney that the Fed should be overseen by Congress, what good is it when there is a President who would allow the Fed to keep their books secret and not respond to requests by Congress for information?
ANY warts can be very serious things, and can develop in cancer. Still, it is a wart. Not a cancer. And most do not become cancers.
I didnt like the EO.
But I knew that Perry always said the final decision was with the parents. In fact, in 2003 he listened to parents concerns about vaccines causing autism and he made it easier for parents to opt out of any vaccine.
And if people think vaccines are really mandatory, some may be in for a shock. The anti-vaccine campaign has worked very well. Two of my grandkids have NEVER had a vaccine of any kind here in Texas and have attended both public and a private school. I called the public schools and the private school both to find answers. In both schools, they said the parents had the final decision - all they had to do was sign a form to opt out and they were allowed to attend both schools. I was actually surprised.
My grandkids were opted out even before Perry, in 2003, made it even easier for kids to opt out of vaccines. He was listening to the concerns of parents in regard to the fear of autism being caused by vaccines, and said the parents should have the final say on vaccines.
I didnt like the EO, but I did not get hysterical over it as I knew in the end, the parents would have the final say here in Texas. And Perry has ALWAYS said that.
I think they call some vaccines mandatory so insurance will pay for them.
And, just as a side note. I have an adopted grandchild who was the product of rape. This childs 12-year-old mother was raped by her father. Some kids sadly are not given the choice of when to engage in sex for the first time.
There have never been any vaccine police show up to force ANY vaccine on my grandkids, and no child was ever vaccinated with Gardisil under Perrys EO. The legislature killed it and Im glad they did. And Im glad Perry admitted he made a mistake.
Its been 5 years and hes never done anything like that again.
Yet still lies and hysteria continue.
The drug had probably been created years earlier for adults, I have not looked into that. Perry believes in State rights, which is a proper thing for a President to do. I may destroy your kind thoughts of me, but there is no perfect candidate - not even the one so many think is. You probably live in a city that mandates some taxes, zoning laws, some restrictions on what you can and cannot do. Most people do. I love Texas and live very comfortably here and Perry's been Governor going on 11 years.
No you have not destroyed my thoughts about you.
I too believe in states rights. But before the 'states' got rights, each individual rights got enumerated. So neither the 'state' or the 'government' have the 'right' to treat US like their slaves.
I thought that happened after she resigned. But that is while she was still Governor.
But she didn’t get a campaign contribution from Merk. Because she hadn’t started her campaign yet, and then she never started a campaign.
How Mitt and Ann Romney conduct their marriage with or without the context of their faith is none of your business.
You deliberately brought up Ann Romneys health issue in an effort to attack her husband. You can oppose Mitt Romney all you want, but lets leave Ann Romney out of it.
Very bad taste.
___________________________________________
I wonder how I know that Romney dragged Ann out so much in 2008 ???
Oh yes they were on several TV interviews together where he kept on saying she was very sick but he needed her to accompany him anyway...
The very bad taste is on the part of the uncaring husband Romney...
Im not responsible for Romneys lack of love and concern for his wife
regardless how you want to spin it...
Nothing was said against his innocent wife
its all on Romney...
and I only mentioned that he ignored Ann while Perry smiled and acknowledge his wife Anita and I thought that sweet...
I thought Romney would jump in and say the same about Ann...Hes usually such a copy cat..
but he forgot about her...
Poor attention span on Romneys part...
Perry scored points with me
Romney missed out
you scream and pout
OK
Redux 2008 and the RomneyBot attacks...
Well, a parent who ‘opts out’ of a vaccine due to either conscience issue or because they were sold a bill of good about evils of vaccines, ends up putting their children at risk.
And when it comes to communicable diseases, they are putting other children at risk as well, by being a carrier. (This applies even to STDs which are of course communicable via sex). Thanks to vaccines, dread diseases of the past like polio and smallpox are becoming extinct diseases, and many other killers of children, like measles, etc.
The ‘strongly advised’ is based on the best concerns for public health.
Let me know if you are interested in helping to eradicate polio.
One of my closest relatives had a full ride pulled out from underneath to give to a Black woman. I never really knew the whole story until last year. I just thought the person changed majors and the major was more expensive. How dull could I have possibly been.
