WASHINGTON - US President Barack Obama on Saturday personally led his governments response to Hurricane Irene, marshalling top officials and visiting a disaster command center as the storm roared ashore.
Obama greeted officials at the National Response Coordination Center (NRCC) set up at the Federal Emergency Management Agencys (FEMA) headquarters in Washington, and then held a video conference with federal and state officials.

Thanks. I even scrolled through the replies at the time to make sure no one had beaten me to posting that.
This will be BIG NEWS with the State-run, Lame-Stream media until things get f’d up. Then, all stories and reports of Obama being “on the bridge and in command and control” will cease immediately.
Is this from the Onion?
Please tell me it is.
Please tell me it is.
Sounds like it, huh?
AFP is the French version of AP, so expect media bias.
Twinkles looks like Dukakis in the tank.
Ya, the highest gusts that I have found are right on the coast 74mph, sustained wind of 58mph, Kitty Hawk, NC, just south of the Chesapeake Bay Ridge Tunnel. With all the rain, the coast area is going to loose allot of tree’s.
That should increase the body count.
“Obama takes charge...”
What a crock of obama!!!
Get some popcorn, Show time...
This visit is his message to the MSM, blame any recovery problems on me and I’ll make you regret it.
“And if he screws up he’ll just blame it on Bush.”
if/hell - when. There are no ifs with this loser - only whens.
Don’t count on it—either Bush or ‘bad luck’, but Never the Sainted One...
They’ll fit this into the Hollywood movie show how Obam kill Bin Laden.
1. A category 1 hurricane—not a cat 5
2. No cities artificially separated into sections by canals/levees/etc.
3. No phone calls by a state governor with the DNC to prevent federal assistance
4. No action by a mayor to effectively avoid his own disaster plan
5. No collapse of flood control measures AFTER the storm was over
6. No making staying illegal
7. No going door to door ahead of time to get people out of affected areas
8. No regulatory/bureaucratic disconnect between FEMA and state/local authorities
9. No screaming by the media that everything is wrong
10. No prevention of assistance, ice, food, National Guard troops left sitting on a state border to create a Democrat win irrespective of ‘collateral damage’ deaths of residents.
I’d say the situations are as different as night and day. In fact, the changes W put in place have helped.
I don’t see too many reports of trees down by the coast, but they’re likely a bit busy with other concerns ATM. I do see quite a few, though, as far inland as Nash & Johnston NC, and Halifax & Chatham, VA.
This is going to be an expensive storm, if only because there are so many Obama-voters further north in its path. No doubt, it’ll provide a perfect excuse for Barry to throw money their way.
Good grief. Campaigning and not letting a good crisis (even a downgrading one) go to waste.
As for those trying to downgrade Irene because of sustained wind or wind gust speed, that is not the problem.
The problem is this past month we (Mid-Altantic region)already have unusually high amount of rainfall in several severe storms, flashfloods/flooding and flooding-caused down trees (therefore down powerlines) had already occurred.
We have completely saturated soil around all this area, all the creeks and rivers are at or near flood stage. Where are the rain (projected to be 5 to 10 inches) going to go? When the ground is this wet, you really don’t need hurricane wind to topple even a hundred-year-old tree.
“No doubt, itll provide a perfect excuse for Barry to throw money their way.”
Obama, throw money at people? Come on, I’ll believe that when I see it. He promised that he would cut the deficit in half.... Oh wait, never mind...
