Approximately 65 million people are likely to be directly impacted by Hurricane Irene as the storm takes aim at the densely populated Eastern Seaboard. Evacuations are underway for high flood risk areas.
Mass transit cancellations, schedule changes and road/bridge closures are occurring throughout the storm warning areas. Please check with local news and Emergency Management Operations to determine the recommendations for your immediate area.

Once again, I asked you questions. Simple ones. Please answer if you can.
I can't tell you. I don't want to go to the Weather Camps.
We lost power about 9:50 ET
On a blackberry and going logoff to save batteries.
Good night from central Balt Co MD.
Hi nutmeg. Want to take a bet that we lose power by tomorrow at 11:00 a.m.or afternoon here in CT. Good golly you know that is going to happen I figure out 7-10 days. What say you?
Maryland and Delaware
I'm having major connection issues or I would have gone looking for the links myself - if I came off across snarky I apologize as it was not my intention.
Take care—check in again when you can!
stay safe!
Many tornado’s warnings coming in.Turn on Action news.
Less coffee might help you. Did I drift as far as you have at times?
This is also a political forum. What will be the result of a roll-up of hurricane preparedness, of weather data gathering and forecasting into the ever growing Federal bureaucracy? I vote it is a pertinent and apt question to ask even as the storm is upon us. (I am typing as my power is flickering on and off.)
How do we trust, and what are the consequences of that trust?
I’m a fan of the robustness of distributed intelligence and problem solving. Centralization is toxic, for political and social instabilities in it.
Prayers up. Be safe!
I am in Barnegat. Our power was fluctuating for awhile there.
I just watched it ... too funny!
Take care.
Bloomie speaking...if you haven’t evacuated, tough luck now stay inside. Tornado (first heard as tomato) watch is in effect. PC Kelly has a very stern look on his face. Mike is giving safety tips first in English and then Spanish (hit mute) and basically since it is advisable to stay away from windows, it’s best to just go hide in your bathtub (my idea). Con Ed may have to shut down if we’re flooded, so fill your tubs tonight if you live on a higher floor (to flush), charge your cell, and get your emergency kit together. Mayor Mike—we’re all in this together, have a safe night, this emergency brings out the best in NYers.
Does Snopes rate either of those sites as trusted?
Now little Mayor Bloomberg is telling New Yorkers how to act again. It's almost like a bedtime story for his little subjects. I'm surprised he didn't tell everyone to brush their teeth before they go to bed. :::shudders:::
I would really like to know how much water has flooded my house in Norfolk, if the power is on, and if the kids are safe.
But noooo .... all the dang news can talk about is a fart in a NY subway. Jerks.
Or some idiot in ocean city covered in whale spooge.
But the largest city in VA (VA Beach)? Hardly a mention. Second largest city in VA (Norfolk)? Not mentioned at all.
Nevermind that the HRBT is closed, the Midtown tunnel (the busiest two lane highway in the US) is closed, the power seems to be out, 2M people in VA are without power (Fox reports 21K, and goes back to discussing a fart in NY...)
This is frustrating. I am worried about the kids, and about my house - and all I get is some idiot covered with whale spooge in ocean city.
I did laugh at the streaker, though.
Have to ask the kids who it was.
Resveratrol is an antioxident found in the skin of red grapes. Of course it is in fresh grapes -— or red wine. Nice way to take ‘medicine’! LOL!
A safe night and day to you and Zelig, too. (Hi Zelig!)
Right now it is pouring, and we hear thunder. More like just a big wet summer storm than the beginnings of a hurricane, but we are still on the alert.
Thanks, NautiNurse. I try to be polite in stating my concerns, and am getting tired of being dissed by no-it-alls.
Let the looting begin, Eric Holder has the "Get Out of Jail Free" cards ready.
