* Perry threatens Fed chairman, Bachmann also criticizes
* Remarks reflect intense political pressure on Fed
* White House says threatening Bernanke "not a good idea" (Adds fresh quotes from Bachmann, Obama, economist)
WASHINGTON, Aug 16 (Reuters) - The White House denounced Republican presidential candidate Rick Perry on Tuesday for his threatening remarks toward the head of the U.S. Federal Reserve that represented some of the most inflammatory rhetoric of the 2012 election campaign.
Campaigning in Iowa on Monday, the Texas governor said he would consider it "treasonous" if Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke "prints more money between now and the election" in November 2012 -- a fresh sign of the political heat the central bank faces as it tries to right the stumbling U.S. economy.
"If this guy prints more money between now and the election, I don't know what y'all will do to him in Iowa, but we would treat him pretty ugly down in Texas," Perry said to laughter from supporters in Iowa.
"Printing more money to play politics at this particular time in American history is almost treacherous, treasonous in my opinion," he said.
The White House responded by saying it is important for the Fed to remain independent, and jabbed back at Perry, who on Saturday entered the race for the Republican nomination to face Democratic President Barack Obama. Perry is already considered one of the strongest candidates for the Republican nomination.

People knew Perry wasn't saying Bernanke should be hanged.
It was comment on the continuing devaluation of our currency.
The illegals are warming up to Perry too so you are in good company.
I knew Calvin Coolidge had cut the income tax, and he’s generally credited with the economic prosperity of the 1920s. I didn’t know Warren Harding was an even bigger pro-growth, tax-cutting president until your post. I’ve just spent a little time reading up on him, and clearly he’s been overlooked by history and by conservatives. He unleashed the American private economy and started the economic boom that Coolidge (who was his VP) continued after Harding’s death. Very interesting—thanks for your informative post.
Perry said ALMOST treasoness - which it is.
Keep it up Rick !
I don’ understand the support from an intelligent group of people. Perry’ love for the illegals will destroy the country even more than Obama. 12 million Democratic voters will be difficult to beat. If Perry would renounce his love of illegals, I certainly could support him. Even Obama has not brought up amnesty. What is it about Republicans that have this love for illegals. Reagan, bush and now Perry. I don’t get it.
Check out DU and daily KOS. Noone is happy. Hee hee.
The only problem I have with the word treason is that it is used way too much and has watered down the word.
And your Mormon church isn't "pandering" to illegals by employing them as official Mormon church bishops? (By "employment" I don't mean a "paycheck"; certainly Lds bishops get ministry expenses reimbursed by the Mormon church)
2 LDS branch presidents in Utah deported to Guatemala, El Salvador
IMHO, you have to get all of those right.
And your Mormon church -- they've "got it right?"
Considering The Disconnect Between Some LDS Church Members and Leadership on Immigration
It seems, Jeff, that you hold your GOP candidates to a higher stance than you do your church. But I guess unlike the Mormon church -- accountable to NO one -- GOP candidates are in sharp contrast accountable to the people.
Translation: internal polling scows a 49 to 1 victory of Perry over Obama.
As a matter of fact, NO, I will not be supporting Romney as any reading of my posts over the years, or a simple vist to my site would show.
My 1st choice is Sarah Palin, followed at this point by Bachman, then Cain...depending on who else gets in the race...followed probably by Santorum...all before Perry and Romney.
Now, if it came down to (which I do not believe it will) a vote between Romney and Obama, it is clear how I would pull that lever.
So, greyfoxx39, take your bias and prejudicial judgement (and it is really out of hand if you cannot see it yourself) and just can it, or stick it some other place where the sun don't shine.
You’ll end up supporting him when he is the GOP nominee. There’s no one out there that can do what Perry can do. He doesn’t backpedal after his strong remarks he makes/made. And actually the bottom line for Americans are jobs and the economy. NO one running has a record like that....only Perry does. And as Carville said...it’s the economy stupid...everyone can dance around screaming about Perry he did this, that and is this, that...but in the end they’ll vote to defeat barry.
I have the same reservations you do about Perry doing the walk, but I sure do like the way he talks the talk.
As far as I’m concerned any Republican who criticizes what he just said about the Fed and its sniveling little perps is part of the America hating enemy.
Santorum was not catching on (because of the Twoomey/Specter thing IMO) anyway, but this should pretty much end him.

Oh he has my vote in the general 100 percent. Last week I was saying I would write in Sarah but changed my mind because of Obama’s behavior the last few days. Can’t live with myself if Obama won by one vote. I vote in PA so who knows what will be left by then to vote in the primary. We vote in April which is pretty late.
“...threatening remarks ...”
Notice how anything that is said that is remotely disparaging (and true) about this administration, and the chickensh*t POS in charge, is labeled “threatening”?
2012 can’t get here soon enough.
Good info about Harding, I had no idea how effective he was. I never read or heard this before. No way his methods will be implemented these days, surrenders too much power (and responsibility) back to we the people.
I also believe that it wouldn’t take much for an economic recovery to be unleashed. With the handcuffs taken off, it would almost explode. I can even see the possibility of it requiring some form of restraint. “Afterburners” is accurate.
Perry's zinger is no big deal. No threat just truth.
The Church's mission however is principally to save souls...and there are members and leaders who take that injunction, which Christ himself gave, beyond reason when working within the constitutional frame work of our laws.
When I see it, I speak out about it, either with individuals or in council meetings in leadership.
Individual members and some leaders of all church's make mistakes. They are human. We saw it in the new testament after Christ's death for goodness sake. That does not stand in the way of Christ's atonement, or my own dedication to my faith.
Problem is, you are trying to attack the church (which seems to be our principle aim) now through political actions. The church stands on moral grounds and has been very effective and critical in the fight against abortion, against homosexuality, and any number of other things.
I do not agree with the actions of some regarding illegal immigrants. We can teach them of Christ and are equipped to do so, in Mexico or Honduras or wherever else as well as here. They should be returned to their homeland if they are here illegally.
But I do not owe you an explanation...though I give it in an attempt to show you how your bias is leading you to judgemental statements that simply are not true.
Your judgement of me, without knowing my own actions reflects on your bias and prejudice which you are allowing to taint that judgement.
Read my post 50 to greyfoxx39,...its for you too.
There is a bill in Congress with 300 sponsors from both sides of the aisle to audit the Fed. The idea that we have an unelected group of people with such power and the lack of transparency should be of concern to all Americans. Perry is just stating the obvious. It is also a good political move.
