David Cameron today gave the go ahead for police to use water cannons on rioters after children as young as nine looted stores and made off with bottles of wine and Vodka in fresh violence that flared around the UK yesterday.
The children wore tracksuits and innocently disregarded covering their faces as they ran through the shattered glass of supermarkets to fill their pockets with looted goods.
But today, the police were given the green light to use water cannons with 24 hours notice. Prime Minister David Cameron said that plans had been put in place to deal with the disorder using water cannons - the first time they have been used in the UK.
The comments were seen as u-turn on what Home Secretary Theresa May said earlier this week when she ruled out the use of water cannons. The 'softly softly' approach has been shelved and police will finally be given the backing to come down hard on offenders.
'Police are already authorised to use baton rounds and we agreed at Cobra that, while they are not currently needed, we now have in place contingency plans for water cannons to be available at 24 hours' notice,' Cameron said in a speech outside Downing Street this morning.
'Whatever resources the police need they will get. What ever tactics they feel they need they will have legal backing to do so.'
Mr Cameron said that the police would be checking offenders 'picture by picture' and they would not let 'phoney human rights' stand in the way of bringing rioters to justice.
He said that something was 'seriously wrong' with society 'when you see children as young as 12 or 13 looting and laughing'.

I think the British government is the “parent” of most of these children. Brits have a huge rate of “single mums,” among both blacks and whites, and of course we all know who has to play Daddy then and support them.
The scruffy looters could certainly use a bath.
Water cannons is “comming down hard”??? Isn’t that just normal police tactics. Want to really stop the riots? Cameron should give police the authority to shoot to kill. Or at least crack some heads. If you see someone stealing a TV out of a store, the police should beat them senseless and then let them go. No jail overcrowding but the message has been sent.
I think it’s also to lay the groundwork for “redistribution” of property.
The key questions in civil unrest have to do with:
a) is the government truly righteous or truly tryannical
b) exactly what is the complaint of the mobs
In this case, the government gives too much towards transfer of wealth, which is truly the government stealing from those who work to give to those who don’t. And the mobs simply desire the same - stealing from those who have rightfully earned.
Cases such as this, if they are not dealt with severely, serve to poison many minds and have them believe the lie for the rest of their lives that this mob thuggery was acceptable. It therefore encourages mob rule and the breakdown of the righteous rule of law.
Accordingly, these mobs really need to be taught the most servere lesson. These riots need to be put down with overwhelming violence, giving no quarter to what amounts to a band of savages.
If the government does not do this, it is abdicating it’s role and citizens will be forced to defend themselves. And the more brutally they annihilate the mobs - of any age - the more the mob will get the message that the mob is wrong and that the mob will not only “lose”, they will all die.
Once the mob is all dead - problem solved, since there would be no mobsters left to hurt, rob or kill anyone.
It’s called self-defense.
Most immigrants are no longer the Ellis Island types who looked forward to becoming Americans, embracing America’s culture and being productive citizens. The new immigrants want all of the benefits of being an American while keeping their culture and not working. Couple that with an anti-Western culture such as Islam and you’re screwed.
You gotta love that understated, subtle British humor.
Idiots. Who do they think created that society? You created a populace of takers while at the same time demonizing producers and then you act surprised when the spoiled brats object to being asked to pay more or receive less.

When it’s been so difficult to have the police in the right place at the right time, I doubt they’d be able to have water cannon where needed very often. WC might be effective when a large crowd is protesting in one area, but probably not for these smaller, constantly moving mobs of thugs.
The plastic bullets are more likely to be of some use.
Water cannons would be a welcome relief to many of those stuck this summer in the 100 plus temperature in our nations mid section.
Honestly, they say they will do “all that is necessary” to stop the violence. I don’t think they are even are coming close to doing what is necessary. Water cannons and what they call their “last resort” rubber bullets, will be like shooting a supersoaker at a hornets nest. You’re just going to make them more angry and violent. This soft approach got them to where they are today. I can understand their argument for not using the military on their own citizens, but the police need to be breaking up the mobs with tear gas, and announce on loud speakers that looters and arsonist will be shot on sight – and then show them that it is not just talk.
And what the hell happened to the Queen and the royal family. This is one of few the extrordinary circumstances where it is their job and duty to act. I can’t find a news story with any of their names even mentioned and parlaiment is clearly dysfunctional. You think any of the Henrys or Edwards would put up with this crap?
To many Americans the Second Amendment has always been interpreted as a mechanism for the citizens to be able to revolt against a government that oppresses them. This is true, but it really misses or deflects the point.An armed citizenry can defend itself, as is their right to do. When the government is allowed to take a total monopoly on the use of force they don’t have to actively oppress you. They can let the barbarians do that and cow you by their intentional failure to protect you. You want police protection do you? You dirty peasants didn’t pass the last bond issue to raise the salaries of the public servants so we are going to quit responding to petty things like burglaries. That will teach you. And don’t dare hurt a burglar, or you will go to jail.
Do you see the pattern?
